It functions, it's quiet, and it runs cool. Not SSD. When Newegg says 'bare drive' they're not kidding. At least it comes in an antistatic bag and well protected in bubble wrap.

It is a tough drive. these either function or they don't out of the box.Drive is quicker than my older sata 1 160gbdrive is thin. quiet and easy to cool Seagate utilized to provide five year warranty. this has only 3 year. I have been using Seagate difficult drives practically exclusively for years. With couple of exceptions, I have not been dissapointed.

Quick, quiet, price, free shipping, five.9 Subscore in Vista, works nicely with Vista N/A I bought two Seagate's to replace 2 older Western Digital WD2500KS that I began getting complications with right after a year and a half. The W/D had a Subscore of five.8 in Vista and were noticably slower than the Seagate's.EVGA 680I in SLI, two GeForce 8800 GT's, Intel Core two Duo E6750 overclocked to 3.6GHz. Vista 64 bit. And I am really content with this fantastic gaming program. No will need to upgrade!

About as quick as a 10,000 rpm velociraptor but with only a fraction of the noise, weight, and price. I have located no far better major drive. 1. There ARE significantly far better storage drives. WD makes far better 1TB drives - speed, expense, warranty, and so on.two. The seagate web page has been completely fooked for a month or so (lacking facts, disorganized, not valuable, etc.) . I hope the adjust is to make great improvements but that's got to put a strain on consumer service when they have to pick up the site slack on the telephone.three. I would like much more drive details on the seagate spec sheets. They SUCK. I know it's a 320GB drive! I'm glad to know the outer dimensions too. BUT, I'd like to know the seek times, the aerial density, the number of platters - e.g. points that distinguish (or not) them from the competition. My assumption, if they don't want to list it, is that they're not fairly as excellent as some others - which will make me appear all the harder to locate one thing much better. And it's not a secret - any competitor can unscrew their drive, test it, etc. - so share the information. It's challenging to come across 5yr warranty drives from Seagate - at least on Newegg. If this Seagate weren't slightly faster, I would have chosen a 5yr warranty 320GB drive from WD rather. The Seagate individual told me to look for drives that ended in a "K?" -one thing for the longer warranty, but the info is not currently on their internet site and they have to not be carried by Newegg

The one that functions, functions superior. Ordered two, only one works, one was DOA. Not worth the hassle to send the DOA back.

None. Dead on arrival. Intermittent beeps and by no means spun up. Incredibly disappointing... now I have to spend to send it back to Newegg, and then wait for a couple weeks till I have a replacement. I should have read far more mainly because it sounds like Seagate has had large troubles recently.Bought a Samsung drive in the meantime to finish constructing my system and the Seagate will just be a backup mirror drive.

Worked nicely for a few months i guess, seemed to have great efficiency. I WAS pleased. five month failure. Squeezed out just sufficient life to make a technique image backup to my external HDD... really should that go in the "pros" section? I have quite a few HDD's in use among a few diverse systems, and a combination of the two significant brands. The seagates have slightly more rapidly efficiency and the older ones seem equally dependable as the Wd's. All merchandise almost certainly go by way of some cycle of new technology vs stability, the subsequent one will be superior for it. Hopefully.

It's from NEWEGG. Pricing and free of charge shipping. None so far Connected, immediately recongized (without using the SATA limitation jumper) and installed Win XP with no an problem. Installed the hardrive on an AOpen AK77-400Max motherboard with a built in Promise SATA 150 TX2 Plus controller. So far so good.

Compact in size. Just a tad thinner then the average HD* It works* Runs pretty warm. 34c compared to 32c on my WD green. Not quiet as I thought it would be. * Noisy - sounds like my workplace. A bunch of people typing.* Shame on the critiques for misleading me. I ought to have went with a Samsung.

I installed this baby to the pc reinstall the OS. This model is quite excellent. I don't hear noise. It doesn't heat up. It runs quickly. I'm really happy. I acquire seagate mainly because of it is five year warranty wd usually provides less warranty so i prefer seagate. this item is three year warranty instead five.

Cons negate any Pros After 1 week boot stopped in the course of POST with a Smart status poor, backup and replace error message. System would still boot but I was unable to clone nor backup the hard drive. Had to buy another drive and reinstall O/S and all applications. Will never ever buy a Seagate drive once more.

I bought this early in 2006 so this drive is nonetheless working perfectly and it is virtually 6 years old. I didn't purchase two at the identical time. I guess I was lucky to get a great drive. This HDD has the exact same OS system on it from day 1 in a custom pc build and because then have successfully put installed it in a second pc construct with out having to reformat and reinstall an OS. It has been through heavy usage. I leave my computers on 24ǝ. I have utilized it for HEAVY gaming. Also, here in florida with all the thunderstorms, it has been by way of a lot of energy outages and electrical surges that have shut down my pc. This HDD is a champ and has survived it all.

Typical performance. Began acting a little flakey following three months. Got Smart error right after four months. Had to run out and obtain a new difficult drive to transfer information to. Only drive obtainable to purchase locally was a 500GB Western Digital. Swore I'd never ever get another WD drive after having experienced three previous failures of their drives. Had to bite the bullet and do it because I didn't know how lengthy I would have prior to a complete failure of the Seagate. Got the data transferred to the WD in a couple of hours then got an RMA from Seagate. Seagate was incredibly prompt and replaced my drive with a rebuilt one. It shouldn't have happened though. I'm out a couple of hours of time and ๑ for the WD I shouldn't have had to spend.

It's lightweight, so it doesn't expense too a lot to RMA. This would be the 2nd D.O.A. Seagate from Newegg this year... I also have 3 other drives that failed from Seagate over the past year, including 2 of their "reliable" Enterprise NS drives. Seagate utilized to be great... but apparently not anymore.

Slim design make it terrific for little enclosures. Speed is mid-grade, about what I would expect for the cost. Mounting holes go all the way by means of the metal so no fears of grinding into it with a random screw. A few dollars more would land you a significantly better deal. It didnt contain a private dragon or dancers. Hey, its a hard drive!

Quick & Reliable Drive. Outstanding warranty from Seagate though you may never use it; Seagate drives last a lot longer than the warranty provided. All my tough drives are Seagate & have been going for 7+ years with out fail. None Utilized this drive to replace a Full Hard drive in a computer at function. Noticed a speed difference proper away

Have three of these in a RAID , 64kb strip size, win7 pro x64 employing the GA-MA790X-UD4P on board sata raid controller(not GSATA2). I'm acquiring 355-368 MB/s max read, 180-205 MB/s minimum, and 250-260 MB/s average running the full test of HDTune Pro (Not short stroked either, the full 1499gB). I didn't acquire them here or oem though, they had been boxed retail. I've had 1 of them for years, and two are new. btw These are often sold in retail shops under the ST3500641AS RK designation, but inside the package you get ST3500418AS 7200.12 CC37 Bios(not a big deal considering that they're fantastic drives anyway). The one I have had for years has performed flawlessly. I was more than pleased with the RAID performance, specifically since the only tweaking I did is to move the page file onto a unique drive. Not actually certain how that affects RAID performance, but that is when I got the higher numbers. Dont have four of them.As often YMMV Challenging to beat (or any of the excellent, quickly single platter 7200 rpm 500gB drives available these days) based on cost and performance. RAID performance is much better than I expected, with no errors or issues so far. And , yes I'm aware of the Risks/Rewards of working with RAID , so I back up whatever I don't want to lose.
