I function as an IT Admin for a smallish business, I setup RAID1 for all of our HP workstations that we use. Prior to buy these drives I was receiving the now discontinued Seagate 250 GB 7200.10, which was comparable to the 7200.12 but had a 16 MB cache. This drive was coming with my HP workstations and I would get a second a single separately for RAID. When they discontinued it I decided to go with these 7200.12 320 GB drives as replacements due to the 16 MB cache rather than the 8 the 250 GB version has. I have deployed 50 or so of these drives and have yet to have a single failure which is very good, they are also relatively quiet and were putting up respectable bench numbers in HDTach prior to a new firmware rev. I was acquiring drives with either CC35 or CC37 Firmware, each have been very comparable in HDTach, they benched as follows…Random Access: 14.1 msCPU Utilization: %Average Read: 91Burst Speed Mb/sVery decent numbers for a โ drive. But lately final week a new batch of drives came in an order and I checked the FW like usually and noticed it was newer on all 8 drives, rev CC44. I was excited to bench them and see if they have been any much better but to my dismay they have an awful Random Access time of 17.7 ms! Other specs come out to be the very same 92 Mb/s Avg Read and 225 Burst Speed. I have no idea what this is about but I have read about folks having the same issues on the internet. They and myself are speculating that Seagate did this to reduced the noise the drive produces, either that or it is however an additional FW bug. And I am sorry but practically 18ms Random Access is pitiful. I have an old 7 year old WD IDE drive that has a 14ms RA time. Due to this I can\'t advocate this drive, drive would be five eggs but I am giving it three eggs general given that I have had very good luck with them reliability wise and prior to this firmware overall performance was very good. But what is up with this FW Seagate? Method that the drives had been benched in is identical and I did them all back to back a number of times. Technique is an HP xw4600 Workstation, two.5 GHz Quad Core, eight GB DDR 800, Onboard Intel RAID Controller (ICH10R) and a Basic Windows XP Image. I have constantly been a fan of Seagate and I have a 120 GB 7200.7 that is 5 years old nonetheless going as effectively as a number of 7200.ten drives ranging from 250 GB to 750 GB and as old as 3 years or so when they initial came out. And again I also use numerous of them at work and have only have a few failures here and there. But not too long ago I have been reading much more and additional negatives about Seagate ever given that the 7200.11 fiasco.

Decent functionality and size for the cost. Also quite quiet unless you have the machine correct up next to you. None so far. Deployed 7 machines more than the last two months with 1 of these in each machine. It's a excellent performance leap more than the 40GB IDE100 drives that their old machines had. It's also a single of the finest size/speed/priced drives I've observed not too long ago.

-Thin-Quiet-three yr warranty -Low cache-Price is nearly the very same as 500 GB drives (got it on special although) Replaced a failed 250 GB Maxtor in an iMac G5 with this drive. This drive is thinner than the stock drive and has a greater capacity.Newegg packed it effectively, but it was in a WD box

Have often had solid overall performance with the Seagate tough drives that I have installed. My two older systems nevertheless have the original drives in them and functioning just fine. Added this to my XP system for extra storage. Could have employed a jumper cap to modify the 3mb speed to 1.5mb speed to accommodate my older motherboard. Fortunately had a couple of those lying about. Bare drive, no SATA cable, energy cable adapter or brackets. But no big deal due to the fact I have these already.

I love these lil guys. I have two of them in RAID0 for 640GB as an OS and APP drive. They function like a charm. Quiet but u can barely make out faint lil sounds from them from time to time. They look to be fairly quickly. I would like more rapidly but still waiting on SSD to come down. UPS took a big gamble tossing from ground level to my second story balcony. However Newegg has shown they know their packaging. I was genuine pleased with the packaging from Newegg and i feel despite the big fall they had taken i assume that Newegg saved the day and they are gonna be all suitable. WTG Newegg!!!

None I enjoy NewEgg!!! anything I have ordered usually arrives swiftly, and have never ever had to RMA something. What could be better then a corporation that has that sort of record. And of course, let's not neglect the pricing.

Works fast. Stays cool. Great design. It won't transform my child's poopy diapers. I'm not loyal to any unique hdd manufacturer. I've noticed drives from all go terrible and I've observed antique (lol) hdds that still function. The common rule with all electronics, if you want them to last, is make sure your components keep cool.

Thin, nice and quiet. Seek times look a little slow to me, speedfan reports some seek error and hardware ECC recovered, going to maintain an eye on it to see if it continues, if it does I'll RMA Its kinda depressing to see how various seagate is now, I've nonetheless got some old eight-20GB seagates that run rockstable with zero study errors, heck, I've seen an old 8GB seagate get dropped 3ft onto concrete and still work, don't believe I would want to attempt it with the newer.

It performs for a even though. I have had 2 of their drives to fail. The very first a single failed following 1 year. I sent it to Seagate and received yet another. Now, this a single crashed right after 6 months! No 1 has time to preserve installing new faulty drives! I looked on-line to see a lot of folks have issues with Seagate difficult drives. Just pay a few more bucks to get yet another brand. These drives are a waste of your time, which is a WASTE OF YOUR Cash! Honestly, I have had exceptional experiences with NewEgg. Great corporation. On the other hand, it's irresponsible to carry such a negative product (even in spite of the positive evaluations).

This drive is awesome. Way more rapidly than my 7200.ten drive.Gave me a five.9 on Vista. Benches close to a Velociraptor on some tests. I can't actually assume of something Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is as rapidly as a Raptor, BUT, you could purchase 4 of these instead of a velociraptor, raid them and have twice the storage.

Wonderful value at the time, not sure now what the going price is with Black Friday bargains. Quickly, I notice my, games programs and every point else on my pc load more quickly and run smoother. Absolutely nothing to mount it with, but its bare bones so im not seriously complaining. I had the screws at residence currently. Excellent drive for the price, it was a upgrade for coming from a slow 5200 rmp 80 gig difficult drive that i was employing as a back up. I always over looked Seagate as opposed to W D but immediately after acquiring this difficult drive i see them as neck and neck. I would get this product once more for myself or a family members member.

About half the size and weight of a typical HD. Reliably functions and touts that HARDCORE Seagate warranty. ..It doesn't cure cancer. I seriously did not count on to have a difficult drive inside the box this issue was in; it was exceptionally light and thin. I tip my hat to Newegg , UPS, and Seagate.
