potentially a excellent cost to size ratio high rate of failure it's really low expense, possibly due to the fact a lot more than 1 of each and every 4 of these drives fail. That's based on the reviews which are in all probability inlated, folks who expertise the drive failures are possibly more likely to leave a poor review than persons who are satisfied customers. But seriously, as of currently, the evaluations show 29% 1-egg evaluations, which ordinarily means it was DOA |

I installed two of these drives in my NAS about a week ago. I have them in a RAID 1 configuration. They formatted surprisingly rapidly for such a major drive. It's powered on 24ǝ but they don't seem hot and I don't ever hear any noise from the NAS. I've had no issues copying files or streaming video from them. The file copy seems a bit slow. I'm moving files over a gigabit network (cat 6 and 5e cable and a gigabit switch) and file transfers are generally about 10 -12 MB/s. My Buffalo NAS doesn't transfer very quickly either, so I may well have a bottle neck in my network that can't be blamed on the drives. I ordered two of these drives to put in my Dlink DNS 323 NAS. The installed and formatted with out a hitch and I was copying files to them within an hour.Newegg shipped them rapidly and they had been packaged in two boxes with bubble wrap and plenty of packing material. These had been packaged greater than most hardware I've received. My biggest be concerned when ordering these drives was the number of failures that had been reported here. If your contemplating purchasing this drive, initial read these forums and other people like it. You'll discover that there just aren't any hard drives that are 100% full proof. You're going to have to take a chance on 1 of them. For the money, this is the very best drive in it's class. |

I've utilized Seagate for years. This is a great difficult drive and I am really pleased with it. I have four of these drives, and 2 of the 1.five TB versions, as boot drives and secondary storage drives. I have but to have one fail. This challenging drive performs as rapid as most 160-320 GB difficult drives with 16 MB buffers spinning at 7200RMPM, and outperforms any EIDE tough drive. Taking into consideration this Drive spins at 5400 RPM, it is impressive you get the same performance, but with a ton far more space, and whilst burning less power.Runs cool. Runs quiet.Makes a fantastic main OS hard drive in most instances.Makes a good secondary mass storage difficult drive. Dum dums who don't know how to effectively format a difficult drives and fail to brush up on the Seagate web site that explains Almost everything IN DETAIL, and give this hard drive a negative assessment.Dum Dums who anticipate Raptor efficiency out of an energy efficient drive. In the actual world, most people are not going to notice a distinction among this 5900 RPM drive and a comparable size 7200 RPM drive.I like the performance of the Seagate Baracuda 2. TB LP drive slightly greater than the Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARS Take the poor critiques with a grain of salt and beware of the "Dum Dum Factor." There are a lot of people out there who believe they are technical but aren't, that blame Seagate and New Egg for their own errors or incompetence, then take it out on the reviews!I would say unless you are an uber gamer that wants to have the greatest of anything or wanting to run a production server, this is a good challenging drive option for most desktop computers. |

We have ordered Dozens of these... Great Bang for the buck! Very good for Storage and Media Players! Right after ordering a bunch of these we finally got 1 DOA... but NewEgg was amazing and RMA for a new one. Based on all past evaluations we were surprised that we only got 1 so far... Does not deter us from receiving these 2TB HDDs when they're on sale!!! At times Hard Drives get handled roughly by the shipping business which may possibly trigger DOA troubles or problems later... as long as the challenging drive producers honor their warranties - if they don't thats when they should deserve egg deductions. DOAs will often be resolved by NewEggs RMA policy - which has been great and the reason why we will only purchase tough drives from NewEgg!! |

Huge drive, Affordable, Dependable, Power-saving technologies (if you want to jump on that band wagon), low heat, etc. None so far. This is the second drive I purchased, so I clearly like it (bought about three-4 months apart).I have it (them) in a two-bay NAS (DNS-323). NAS is fairly much for backup purposes only, and thus the 5900 RPM (green drive) is great for me. |

Few enough that there is no way they can outweigh the cons. I bought two of these drives from Newegg throughout their Cyber Monday sale last year, both of which had to be returned since they were physically damaged. The SATA and power connectors had been entirely broken as if the drives had been dropped. Newegg was as beneficial as ever and promptly sent me two brand new drives after receiving the others. Amazingly, 1 of these was DOA and also had to be returned. Now, only two months immediately after receiving those replacements, one has already failed. Seagate's high quality control clearly isn't what it utilised to be. In the past couple of years I've purchased about 30 new tough drives, most of them Western Digital. None of the WD drives has yet to fail, but at least half of the 6-8 that had been Seagate's have died. I was a loyal Seagate fan for years but I'll never obtain a different 1 of their drives as extended as I live. |

Quiet, dependable, low energy consumption, cool operation! Extremely content with these drives Other than wishing it was a 7200rpm drive which would make it louder, hotter and use additional energy NONE. I have 3 of these installed in a Seagate BlackArmor 400's Series NAS, but just before I put a single byte of data on them, I installed the CC35 firmware upgrade, it was required to "force" the update since the SG firmware software program didn't. Download the update from Seagate, burn as an ISO CD, boot to the ISO, ok the disclaimer, then hit Ctrl+C then Y to generate a command line break, then kind in the following command to get started the upgradeFDL486A -m Hepburn -f HECC358H.LOD -s -x -b -v -a 20That should upgrade the Firmware, and hopefully solve any raid issues you might have with these amazing drives! |

Particularly quiet! The drives are really nicely created, with noiseless spin up (compared to the older 500GB Barracudas I'm upgrading from, what a racket!) and the storage, Duke, the storage!Price point is great, and Seagate reliability is absolutely nothing to scoff at. They run so significantly cooler than I could have hoped for, too. All in all, I very advocate these drives. I honestly cannot think of 1. Just comprehend that this is a 5900rpm drive, so don't be looking to compare this to an SSD in terms of speed. This drive is meant for storage and regular everyday items. |

Quite quiet, low energy, cheap. 50% chance of poor sectors right out of the box. I purchased 4 of these along with a Thecus N4100PRO NAS for a RAID5 Media Answer. 3 of the 4 had poor sectors, but Newegg advanced 4 new drives with cost-free overnight shipping. Of the 4 new ones, two had bad sectors. RMA'd three much more ྫ drives total) and 1 of those had bad sectors. I was able to construct the raid array with the great drives prior to sending all poor ones back.Newegg has usually been wonderful with their RMA approach so I was okay with waiting given the budget I was working with. On the other hand, given the problems...get the Samsung Spinpoint F4's or WD Green's to keep away from complications...unless you are as patient as I am:) |

Cheap Right after 3 months of use as an archival drive, on 24ǝ but intermittently utilized, the drive began throwing Smart errors. I sent the drive to Seagate under RMA 4 weeks ago, with 2 days of attempted deliveries but no 1 at the RMA address to sign. A week of Seagate claiming to have not received the drive in spite of tracking numbers w/signature showing otherwise. Ultimately they acknowledged receiving the drive, which has sat in a blackhole status of In Approach due to the fact then. Not only did the drive fail, but the RMA method has been terrible. There is no redeeming aspect to having bought this drive. The 2GB Samsung drives that are similarly priced have not had any difficulties. |

Price Yes, they click. I bought one for my NAS had it for about a week with no noise so I purchased another. Installed it, and right away noticed the clicking. Each are going back and I'm getting two WD WD20EARS. I have installed the WD in a clients NAS with no issues. Smart checks out OK so I don't feel the drive is failing but my NAS is in my bedroom so I can't deal with the noise. |

Very good drive, arrived quickly. It is OEM, so just the drive. Installed in a roswell ata 2 bay enclosure and formated to ext4 on ubuntu 10.04. Descent transfer speeds by means of usb at steady 19 mbps from laptop. Have had no error so far. Connected to boxee box, and works ideal! Did take a very good 40-45 min formating the huge 2tb drive, but after that anything was effortless as pie. These low power and massive capacity drives are meant to backup and shop tons of facts. Maintain in mind they are delicate and they break simple. Handle them softly, install them gently and with caution.
