The unit is very quiet...has a nice blue LED on the top of the device which is nice because otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell it's on! Transfer speeds are fairly typical of an external device....good for backups. |

Cons:- Case seemingly intentionally designed to be impossible to open without breaking (ie, don't buy this just to take out the drive if you care for the warranty)
Pros:- Fast data transfer (~80 MB/s sustained write in my setup)- No awful head-parking noises Comment:
I picked this up as a portable backup drive, in case my desktop mirror AND backup server mirror fail at the same time (and it is easier to bring with me in a fire than the server).Largest single hard drive I've ever owned, but transfers quite quickly. I've had peak write over 130 MB/s in HD Tune, and in normal file copying I get about 80 MB/s writing (all over USB 3). Not bad at all.The drive inside is a 7200 RPM, and not a slower spinning green drive, so this also helps with speed.I did a fair amount of breaking in during the first few days and had no issues. I hope to hold this drive among all the other drives I have that have long exceeded their warranties, but I'll knock on wood for good luck's sake. |
