Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons:-Shorter right shift key

Pros:-Sturdy-Not as loud and clicky as other mech. keyboards-Simple, quality keyboard
Comment:
I'm very happy with this keyboard - it feels great to type on. I had the Razer Blackwidow and I very much prefer the 6GV2 over it. Since it uses Cherry black switches, it's not as loud and clicky as the other switches. It's also very sturdy and seems to be well built. The only problem I have with the keyboard is that the right shift key is shorter than normal. However, that shouldn't be a problem as I get used to it more and more.

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons:White key labels wear off in a decent time

Pros:Amazing typing quality, Superior feel compared to Membrane Keyboards, Matte Finish makes it impossible to scratch, VERY heavy, none slip, better key layout, raised key labels.
Comment:
I really like this keyboard, ive had it for about 2 months now, but the keys that a I commonly press WASD and a couple others are starting to lose there color very fast. Other then that this is an amazing keyboard, I strongly recommend it!

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons:USB as a main connector

Pros:Realy responsive, Not really noisy, minimalist design, nice weight
Comment:
Really nice keyboard, nice "click" with every key but not too loud (MX cherry black). Weight keeps it from moving and offers a nice feel while typing. The space this keyboard uses is very optimized. Not alot of unwanted borders on this keyboard.Only downside is the USB as a main connector. You need to put the PS/2 adapter to get rid of the USB connection and puts unwanted things on the backside of your PC. But really, it still works so not really a downside.Just in case people are wondering, this keyboard does not tilt in anyway. You need to use something to adjust the angle and height of the keyboard. As for the media keys, really useful and keeps extra buttons of the keyboard and keeps it nice and organized. Some might find the loss of a windows button a nuisance, but only a minor inconvenience if you ask me.The pretty standard layout makes the transition to this piece of equipment pretty easy.(Even more from membrane to mechanical)Recommended for newcomers to the mechanical keyboards.

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons:It makes more noise than normal keyboards, but it could also be seen as a strength since it really sounds great.

Pros:Looks very tough and resistant. Great feeling when typing. Very high quality.
Comment:
Great product. Plug it in a PS/2 port with the supplied adapter for maximum performance. It feels very tough and is pretty heavy for a keyboard. It was detected by my BIOS and Windows instantly and the media keys work. I'd buy it again and I will recommend it. NCIX processed my order in some hours. I am 100% satisfied, Thank you.

Cons: Very Noisy

Pros: Very very solid KeyboardExcellent build qualityMechanical
Comment:
This is a great mechanical keyboard in this price range. The black switches works great ! The major downside to it is the noise ( click clack) coming from the switches when you play.Besides that, it's a great gaming keyboard for people who does not need those fancy lighting stuff!

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons: - No hand rest (as featured on the 7G) on this model

Pros: - Ultra durable- Well built- Tactile feedback- Option of USB or PS/2- Simple "no frills" design
Comment:
Essentially, this is a stripped down version of Steelseries' 7G keyboard. With a much more attractive pricetag, you get the wonderful mechanical feedback from the Cherry MX Black switches, but without the 7G's usb and headphone hub built into the keyboard. If you have plenty of usb ports already, and use a soundcard or speakers to plug your headphones and such into, I highly recommend saving several dollars and getting the 6GV2 instead. The money you save for cutting out those small features will most likely be worth it.Now I simply cannot explain how wonderful it feels to be back on a mechanical keyboard. The build quality of this keyboard is noticably heavy, and typing on each key feels extremely solid. The feedback from the MX Black switches are as most describe, tactile. The sound emitted from each keystroke is certainly not as loud as others claim it to be and it is more of a solid tap then a click per se. There is a noticable weight behind each key, but it's nothing serious as to make your fingers hurt while typing - provided you have good form. The design is simple and sleek, with a simple intuitive layout (such as the left windows key swapped for media controls), near-standard keyboard layout, and matte black finish, this key board is a more professional take on the flashier gaming keyboards out there. When it comes to gaming, this keyboard feels incredibly responsive. Due to the construction, the mechanical switches eliminates ghosting and enables you to press as many keys as you want when in game. I find this incredibly handy in most fps games. A note about the switches though, after a 9 hour playthrough session of Metro 2033, my fingers in the WSAD position did feel a bit sore - but that's expected when you don't take breaks after 9 hours straight, as with anything. My only qualm with this keyboard is an option you cannot have. The hand rest included with the 7G is not available for the 6GV2, and to my knowledge, is unavailable for purchase as an accessory through Steelseries. This is an amazing buy however, and I would highly recommend purchasing this keyboard for not only years of great use you will get out of it, but for the attractive pricetag no usually found on entry mechanical boards.

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons: my girlfriend thinks the keys are hard to push, but I don't.no tactile feedback

Pros: Great feelsolid buildNot bulkylong cablenot as noisy as I thought it would be
Comment:
Great keyboard, I love the simple design and small profile it has. The mechanical keys feel great when typing and works great for gaming. It has a bit of weight to it, and feels very solid. I was stuck between buying this keyboard and the Razor BlackWidow (Cherry black vs Cherry blue switches for keys). After reading many reviews I ultimately choose this keyboard and I am very happy I did. Not having any tactile feedback is a bit of a downer, but no big deal really. And not having to fully release a key to end the keystroke (like the blackwidow) seems like it would be better for gaming, which is a plus.

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons: None

Pros: Build quality is outstanding, nice weight to it, keys feel great, very quiet for a mechanical keyboard
Comment:
This keyboard is outstanding, coming from a Logitech G15 I can say I'll never buy another keyboard that isn't mechanical. Typing just feels much nicer and the build quality is on a whole other level. The actual force it requires to actuate the key strokes is almost non existent since the keys only need to be pressed down about a quarter of the way. The keyboard is also a joy to game with, it's very quiet since you tend to use a light touch on the keys and everything is very responsive.I have no complaints so far with this board, it was well worth the money and has made both typing and gaming a more enjoyable experience.

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons: production quality

Pros: good feel, nice anti-ghosting, one of the best gaming keyboards on market right now
Comment:
This is an awsome keyboard, very nice feel with cherry MX black switches, good desing quality(feel very solid and very good anti-ghosting when plugged on ps/2) but my ''t'' key stopped working after 2 weeks and i figured out that its a soldering issue and is due to bad production quality and unskilled employees. Dont forget, its ''Designed in Danemark'' but ''Made in Taiwan''. Welding quality and PCB quality are near of ''Ione Scorpius M10''

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons: - None

Pros: - Keys feel very nice- Can be quiet depending on how you type- Will last a long time- Heavy base, probably weighs more than my 1st gen G15- Media keys work well- Compact, no built-in wrist rest consuming space.
Comment:
After using this, I swear I will never go back to a membrane keyboard ever again, I might try a high quality scissor-type keyboard but for now mechanical has won me over. This model uses Cherry MX Black switches which are characterized as exhibiting neither a tactile or audible click, infact the only possibility for this keyboard to become noisy is if you type hard and bottom out the keys (which isn't even necessary as the action is registered with ~50% depression). The instructions indicate it takes 1-2 weeks to acclimate so I'm still working on that, but even now I can say the general feel is excellent.

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons: Right shift is shorter due to the L shaped enter

Pros: Simple designFull NKROMultimedia keys merged with F keysStrong and sturdyDoesn't move at all
Comment:
Having only used rubber dome keyboards the majority of the time, it was a nice transition back to a mechanical one. The black switches are great but lack the tactile feel which some may miss. My only gripe with this keyboard is the L shaped enter which causes the right Shift key to be shortened. It was a little annoying at first but I've gotten use to it in a short amount of time.

Cons: - Not that great key caps, will probably fade out quickly

Pros: - No nonsense feature that you will just end up never using- Sturdy- Full NKRO with PS/2- Nice feel and sound- Option of using PS/2 or USB connection
Comment:
If you are looking for a good mechanical keyboard, with a great sound and feel, without going all the way to a Deck Legend or a FILCO Majestouch or the like, this is the next best thing, for a good price. The board responds very accurately and very quickly in gaming scenarios, and that makes all the difference, a joy to use.

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons: -Letters on keycaps get discolored fairly easily (become slightly greyish)

Pros: -Very solid build-Feels great to type on-Full nkro with ps2 adapter-Great for gaming-UPDATE: can take spills
Comment:
UPDATE: Spilled about half a liter of chocolate milk on the numpad area, keys got quite gummy. A soak in distilled water and a methanol rinse later, its working perfectly fine. If this thing can take tried chocolate milk, water/coke/beer will pose no problems. So I got the 6gv2 on sale back in august, and after a couple weeks of waiting (due to huge unexpected demand and lack of stock) it finally arrived. Right from the get go it felt great to type on, if NCIX or any store has this or the blackwidow on display go and give it a spin on typeracer.com for a few minutes and see what I mean. The keyboard does everything it advertises it does extremely well, without any frills. Adjusting to not having the window key on the left side was fairly easy, and has already saved me from many accidental minimizes when things get heated and buttons are accidentally pressed.Just to be clear, the main reason you should be getting this keyboard is because of how it feels to type on. All those extra features are great, but if it doesn't actually feel good whats the point? When comparing it to membrane keyboards, think of it in terms of going from a trackball mouse to laser. Sure they are both mice, but the way they track movement is quite different. This is the same, this and your average membrane are both keyboards but the very "buttons" you press are different. The different mechanical "buttons" or switches (blues, blacks, browns, clears, buckling springs) should all be considered a tier above rubber dome keyboards (pretty much everything out there besides mechanicals). The funny thing is some of those membranes go up into the 150+ price range, all because of the extra features they have. While at their very core, they are simply a cheap sheet of rubber domes with a few plastic sheets sandwiched under just like your average 5$ keyboard. As for noise, unlike the cherry blue switches (and slightly in browns) there is no audible click when your keypress registers. So the only noise you are going to hear from this keyboard is from how hard you are hitting the keys. Type furiously and it will sound like a typewriter. Type softly, and its virtually silent. Some reviews I've read on this unfairly compare it to browns or blues. Now all mechanical switches may be a tier above membranes, but that doesn't mean within mechanicals there are good and bad ones. Get what you think feels best to do, and what you like. Blues may not be suitable in an office environment because of the noise, or for gaming due to the reset point being different from the actuation point. Browns are quite good in that they have the tactile bump like blues just without the noise (and don't have that reset point problem because of that). Blacks are just straight up linear and feel almost like typing buttons that are being pushed by little air nozzles; very smooth, and they get slightly harder to push the further you push. Each has its own strength and weakness, you be the judge. One last thing, I see alot of people complain that blacks are difficult to type on due to them requiring more force to press. We are talking Centinewtons here, if you really get fatigued from typing on blacks I'd be more worried about your extremely weak forearm muscles. Blacks are meant for typing, just like any other keyboard. This review was modfied by poster @ 12-01-10 12:22 PM

Cons: L-shape Enter key means that the right Shift is smaller.Slightly "clicky".

Pros: Mechanical.High-quality.
Comment:
I am a software programmer so I normally type about 20 to 40 million characters per year. So I go through a lot of keyboards on my development computer. This SteelSeries was bought to replace a Solidtek KB-6600BU which lasted less than 4 days before the wide mechanical keys like the numpad Ins were sticking, which it replaced a Saitek Eclipse that I wore out in the last couple of years. After the Saitek I decided to get a mechanical to get better wear. The Saiteks I still use on my gaming rigs. What made me lean towards trying the Steelseries is that I recently bought a Steelseries XAI mouse and I really like it. This Steelseries keyboard is also of the same high quality.I would definitely buy more Steelseries products in the future.

Pros: Same NKRO feature as the 7G (with included PS/2 adapter)Gold plated contactsMX Cherry Black switchesImproved full size Backspace key Weight
Comment:
I have both the 7G and the 6Gv2 and while they're almost identical, there's a few things missing other than the USB and audio connections.First the attached cord isn't braided or PS/2, it's a thick shielded plastic USB with an included PS/2 adapter which provides the full NKRO. Without the adapter you only get 6 simultaneous keys.It also doesn't have that giant wrist rest like the 7G.It doesn't matter at all in gaming but the full size backspace key is seriously appreciated for typing.I use the 7G at home and the 6Gv2 at work and would recommend both keyboards.

Steelseries 6GV2 PS/2 USB Professional Mechanical Gaming Keyboard W/ Media Controls
Cons: Not really a weakness but may trouble some - the '' key and shortened right shift key.

Pros: Durable. No-Nonsense. Nice feel.
Comment:
I did a lot of research on mechanical switch keyboards before purchasing this one. I love how solid and heavy it is. The keys feel very different from the usual membrane keyboards. They give more resistense but that can be misleading as you do not need to 'bottom out' before a key registers. With a bit of practice you can type lightly and accurately. The only possible caveat might be a slight layout difference from the typical Logitec/Microsoft keyboards: the '' key is beneath the enter key and beside a shortened right shift key. If you have small hands it might be hard to get used to reaching a little further for the shift key - not a problem in my case. Not recommended if you cannot make peace with the layout change. Also not recommended if you like a keyboard with lights and screens and and macros.I'm very happy with my purchase so far.

Cons: no macro's, no backlight.

Pros: Mechanical, better button placement then the 7G. really nice for gaming
Comment:
A very no-frills board that some would find as a strength. But my real reason for giving 5 stars is I spilled a whole cup of coffee on it and after ripping it apart and drying it off with a hair dryer and leaving it overnight, IT WORKS!But seriously, I love the board for typing but miss macro keys and backlight, I will give Razor Blackwidow a try when it is released as well.
