TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:*When powered down, sometimes goes out of sync*Decreased performance if plugged into a socket with other electronics*Terrible connection if using on old power outlets

Pros:*Compact design*Easy to set up (sometimes needs a little tinkering)*Minor degradation of speed - at least as good, if not better than wifi (802.11n capped at 300mbps)
Comment:
I use this to extend my network to areas of the house with a very weak wifi signal and avoid the use of long cables. Currently I have 2 sets of these and another set of an older model (TPL-401E). Six total. One will be used to receive the network signal to transmit to the rest.Set up is fairly straight forward. Just plug and play. Otherwise, if you want to set up a more secure network, you can install the utility that comes in the box and set up your network from there. Sometimes, especially when using more than one device, you might have to use the sync button to sync up all your devices out of the box. It's important to note that when power is lost or disrupted, the devices sometimes come out of sync. When that happens, it is best to reset all the devices and re-sync them. It could be an issue if you often experience power outages or have faulty electrical lines (then again, you shouldn't be using this if you have bad electrical lines since it depends solely on that). My advice, to get the best out of these, is to use them on an outlet by itself. Don't plug any other electronic device into the same outlet. If possible, don't plug any other electronic device into nearby outlets as well. This could be an issue as well if you have limited sockets around.

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:Wish there were more ethernet ports

Pros:Easy to set up
Comment:
ok, needed something smoother and more reliable connection to a lower wifi signal area. Saw these on sale and picked them up. Set up was a breeze, just plug them in and go. It took longer to move furniture around and finding the right length Cat-5 cable than to install these units.Installed the utility from the CD and noticed it detected both units right away and reported connectivity at 152mbps. Not sure how accurate it is but on a 50/10 internet line, power plugs from another circuit (but in the same building) got 30/8 so pretty darn good. Maybe building is newer, that may mean better quality power lines in the walls.Wish there were more ports on these units. If there were more, it would have been a 5 star review. But at this price, NOTHING on the market has more than 1 port.

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:Connection drops a lot..

Pros:They look good, small footprint.
Comment:
Had high hopes for these, but unfortunately they do not work well. Connection drops often for no reason. Contacted TredNet support and you are supposed to send them this to USA... wait for weeks etc. No guarantee that replacement would work. System reconnects after a minute or 2, or if you unplug / re-plug either adapter. However, when you are working / gaming you need constant connection.. not sure if I should do RMA or just go with another brand.

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:Horribly unstable, only two pronged, flimsy material

Pros:Faster then older network solutions, convenient
Comment:
I bought one of these to replace an old Linksys powerline kit that I had for a few years, within a couple of weeks it's already defective. The adapters keep dropping connection and after running checks on my motherboard, updating the network drivers on it, updating the firmware on the adapters, it's still causing problems. I get massive ping spikes in my games followed by eventual disconnection from whatever server I am on. These things are generally better then wireless, but this model is junk. I think when I return this I will just go with a D-Link or Linksys since they make good quality products. I bought this due to the price at the time and now I see that might have been a mistake.

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:Windows-only software, hard to manage on Mac or Linux

Pros:Easy set-up if you use default security code, reasonably fast on good connection
Comment:
I bought a pair of these so I could wire in our TV/media centre and not use wireless. Works pretty well with good speeds as the wiring between the router and TV area is pretty good. Less happy about the management software- it is Windows only and will not run using Wine. Managing the security is opaque with no software (press buttons and run between rooms) and hard to diagnose any problems.

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:- loses connection once in a while requiring re-sync

Pros:- easy to set up- good value (sale 35-40 bucks)
Comment:
Had these for a while now and other than the annoying drop ped connection that require re-sync once in a while this product works fairly well. Please note I am using this product on the same circuit, i don't know what the performance drop  would be if signals need to cross to a different circuit.

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:How well it works depends entirely on your house's wiring, 30+ yr old buildings may have issues due to poor old wiring.

Pros:Extremely simple installation - just plug it in and it works, even when an existing powerline adapter was installed it worked along side it without issue, on a separate connection.
Comment:
Bought this hoping to improve on my wireless connection (300mbps wireless N). Even though my ISP had installed a powerline adapter elsewhere this worked along side it on a separate network in a 10yo mobile-home.Doing a simple file transfer test receiving a file from a laptop with gigabit ethernet, I managed 5.6MB/s on the powerline adapter and 8.8MB/s by wireless. Ping to my router is a constant ~3ms via powerline, and ~1ms via 300mbps wireless. The connection is nearly half the throughput speed of 300mbps wireless, but the connection is much more consistent, making it much more suitable for gaming.500mbps rating is very misleading since you will likely get closer to 50mbps when it's working properly, but this should still be faster than 150mbps wireless N in raw throughput.

I bought this for a customer. Got it at 39.99$ for the kit. Performance depends on your electrical wiring. SOme place, I had bad performance, but when I plug it into the same circuit or close, it works perfectly.I recommend this product!!!

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:Uses 10/100 ethernet port

Pros:Very easy to setup, decent performance
Comment:
Plugged it into a socket near my router, plugged the other one upstairs next to my desktop and was up and running in no time. My house is around 35 years old, and currently, I get around 6 to 7 MB/s (That's megabytes per second), which is around half the maximum rated speed of 100mbps. It's a slight improvement over my wifi speeds, but more importantly, I don't have to worry about the wifi occasionally dropping during a large download, or while connected to my work VPN. I've only been using it less than a week, so we'll see how it holds up. Hope it holds up to power spikes, as you must plug it directly into the wall socket (no power bar or UPS).

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:-Nowhere near 500Mb/s

Pros:-Cheap when on sale-Actually works
Comment:
I'm upgrading from the 200Mb version from TP link. I had a weird issue previously, I have a 2 year old house and was only getting 1MB/s during the day and 0MB/s during the night. Granted my house it 3 stories and it going from the basement to the top (4 levels) but still I thought throughput was pretty bad. With the 500Mb version, I'm at least getting 5MB during day and 1MB at night so I'm not going to complain, it's good enough to stream 720p

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:Still not super fast by any means.

Pros:Great price on sale. easy install...plug n play. no running cable or WiFi signal boosters.
Comment:
Just upgraded from the TPL-308E2K/A 200 Mbps kit to this one. The 308E2K worked well in my single level rancher from one end of house to other and streamed video on You Tube on my smart tv at 103 Mbps max..occasional stutter and delay loading web pages. This kit comes in at 153 Mbps ...an improvement for sure but still is some delay loading web pages but I'm blaming that on the Android box with Android 2.3 as not having the power I'm looking for. Overall I think these are great solution to the dead zone my TV was in with my WiFi at the other end of house and I didn't have to crawl under house to run cable.

TRENDnet TPL-406E2K 500MBPS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit
Cons:Connection can be flaky in some situations.

Pros:Good value when on sale.
Comment:
I got my kit for less than 30 bucks, so it's definitely good value. However, the rated speed, like others have noted, is just for show. I get anywhere from 150 to 220 mbps when doing files transfer. But on some outlets, I got flaky connections. However given that the wiring of my rental unit is quite old and never upgraded, I can't really blame the adaptors. I also don't like the fact that they don't work well when connected to a power bar (is that done on purpose so we have to buy the more expensive kit with extra outlets ?)

Cons:none so far.

Pros:easy to install, compatibility, usefull.
Comment:
I really recommend this kit to anyone who need to expand his network but does not want to run the cable all over the house. hook up with a hub, I use this kit to connect a pc for my parent who watch youtube all day long. plus I also connect it with 2 surverance camaras 24/7. This kit also are working another kit that I bought before(Netgear I think), so far no compatibility issue found.
