Thermaltake BlacX 5G 2.5/3.5IN SATA3 Hard Drive Docking Station USB3.0
Cons:Big, but light. Needs to be plugged in the wall, the sleeves provided with it are cheaply made

Pros:It works well, have a on/off button and supports USB3 and Superspeed
Comment:
It does what it is supposed to do. It is fast and bring the hard drive to its limit. The drives are easy to plug in this. I probably would have preferred the dual one, but I preferred to get USB3, which is a plus.

This little unit adds so significantly to a technique. Backing up your personal computer is so simple, and transferring huge quantities of data in between computers is more quickly and less difficult than ever. Streaming data off the tough drive (video, music) functions perfectly. I haven't had a single difficulty with this drive. Some people claim that the tough drives get hot - I haven't had this problem. If your tough drive gets hot in this unit, it most likely also would get hot inside your Pc situation. Looks excellent, and it's good that the energy and eject buttons perform like they should. It comes with a USB three cord, and a sleeve for protecting a 3 1ǘ" difficult drive. It's basically a silly tiny toy although, I by no means use it.

Compact design.Power Button has moved to leading/front (was on the back in older models).USB three. (though I haven't used this yet)Drives dock solidly, ejector button permits for easy removal.Upright, open position of drive keeps them cool.Cable included (but possibly problematic, see beneath).Able to use TrueCrypt to encrypt complete drives with this dock, which is great for data security of off-web site backups of client perform.Overall, a good answer for information storage. Far more affordable than external USB drives, as extended as you are prepared to sacrifice the style/portability. I use it to back up photo and video function for my organization, so drives are typically written to and then put into storage. I would be spending a fortune on external USB tricky drives with no this program. Older model had a 2-color indicator light oval. Blue side would come on to indicate power. Red/Purple side would flash to indicate drive access activity. This model has merged the power button with the power light, and eliminated the drive access indicator light. I find this incredibly irritating, since I frequently have data processing activities running on my Pc with the screen off, and with this dock I no longer have a speedy visual indicator that every thing is nonetheless running okay. Actually a step backwards in design. The included USB 3. cable seems to be finicky. On some machines, it will only operate when plugged into specific ports (ie, motherboard-mounted rear ports, vs situation-front ports). On my laptop, I practically constantly have to wiggle the cable about to come across a position exactly where it sees the dock, and it will occasionally drop the connection if the dock/cable/laptop gets moved in the course of operation. This is the ONLY USB device I have ever utilised on my laptop that did not perform every time. I own two of the USB two./eSATA version of the Thermaltake BlacX dock, so my review is based in component on comparison to these. The two cons listed are definite complications in my book, but they may possibly not matter to somebody who is not familiar with the old design. All of the BlacX docks have eventually worked on every single machine I have tried them on, but this USB 3. version is the only one particular I have had connection complications with. It could just be the included cable; I have however to attempt it with my own cable.I cannot speak to the USB 3. speeds, as none of my machines currently have USB 3. ports. I purchased this dock due to the fact I necessary a 3rd, and wanted the USB 3. version since I strategy to have a new laptop and Pc with USB three. by year-finish.I would really like to see a dual-drive BlacX with a RAID 1 controller for mirrored drive backups (one to preserve on-web site, 1 to move off-website). As far as I can tell, their BlacX Duet shows up as two drives on the program and has no internal RAID support.

Worked fine via USB two.. Drive continually went offline (disappeared from Device Manager) within an hour of getting attached by way of USB three..My specs: ASUS P6X58D Premium motherboard with NEC USB three. chipset and nusb3xhc.sys driver version 1..14.). Manufacturer Response:Hi, Thank you for your feedback. After investigating the problem with NEC, the maker of the USB 3. host controller, it is very suggested by NEC to have the most current USB 3. controller firmware installed. You might either request the most current firmware from your motherboard manufacturer, or get in touch with our Buyer Service at support@thermaltakeusa.com.One more setting to verify is regardless of whether you have the USB Sleep function turned enabled on your pc. If USB Sleep function is turned on, the technique would cut-off power to your USB ports, thus resulting in lost of connection with connected device, immediately after a specific period of inactivity.Thermaltake Support

Move the exact same challenging drive to older USB2 BlacX dock and the drive formats fine. A WD 1TB drive can format in new USB3 BlackX dock just fine. Not certain if its the firmware in the seagate Tricky drive Version cc13 or a dilemma with BlacX5G, still operating thru this concern with each sides. Just beware. Too negative I don't have a second 2tb drive to test with...

Pretty. Stable and not most likely to fall more than quickly.Thermaltake rep takes a hit on this a single. In no way worked. Plugged in and turned it on... light did not function. Started smelling something like burning plastic. Tried to unplug AC adapter and it burned me. My Rosewill IR thermometer measured the temp as 152 degrees Fahrenheit. Named thermaltake and requested a replacement AC adapter... no response. So back to Newegg it goes."Once burned, twice shy..." as well negative this is the only SataIII dock available at Newegg... perhaps riverplace has yet another brand..

Operates as described.... USB three. speeds, more rapidly than eSATA III.Dropped a Caviar Black in the slot, USB three. interface to an HP 8740w workstation USB three. port ... wow!The power button on my unit is on top.My PSU has no whine. Doesn't write its personal evaluation. Even though my ASRock Extreme6 mobo has an eSATA III port on the back panel, I use the the front panel USB three. port to the BlacX ... 1) more convenient, two) faster.

Product operates seamlessly. Applied 4 unique hard three.five" drives to back up 5 PCs. All drives were SATA II on USB two.. This is the greatest backup answer for my circumstance. Growth into SATA III and USB three. is a required plus, in my opinion. None. Use care in plugging a difficult drive into the unit. Over time, this will be the put on point. Also, use the eject button on the unit to eliminate the drive.

Compared to other docking stations, this unit appears to be well built. As noted by a different reviewer below, the drive repeatedly goes offline when connected via USB three.. In my case, it goes offline in less than 15 minutes. It will function once more (for an additional 15 min.) soon after it is powered off and allowed to cool down for about 30 minutes. It works fine via USB two.. I RMA'd the unit and will give one more one a try. Manufacturer Response:Hi, Thank you for your feedback.Immediately after investigating the concern with NEC, the maker of the USB three. host controller, it is highly recommended by NEC to have the newest USB 3. controller firmware installed. Speed as advertised.Power button is nicely performed. The power connector disconnects power from the dock with the slightest vibration, and it is so loose that I have to RMA this piece of garbage.Eject button is too hard to depress; I don't like the amount of shock that hits the drive if you use only the button, and don't 'assist' it. I won't trust the Thermaltake Brand for anything genuinely after this. Waste of time, and funds.

I enjoy the BlacX docking stations. Very handy for swapping in and out a drive. The single drive unit has the power switch in the back rather of on the top front like the dual version. Also this certain model is USB Only and I believe is becoming phased out. You are superior off obtaining the newer USB/eSATA model. eSATA information rates are up to 6 times quicker than USB so even if you don't have eSATA now you may get it in the future (even a lot of laptops have them normal now) or for desktops an eSATA adapter is somewhat low cost so just upgrade today!

USB3 (Backward compatible with USB two & 1)No worries about eSATA discovering drive but can have related read write speeds. five gigabit/sec Ǟ = 𞺡MB/s bandwidth So it can deal with even SSD speeds with bandwidth room to spare.Enjoy the drive rubber covers lowering the vibration for Platter HDD's. None... Wish they'd send a carrying case for it. But if your working with it in one spot it's ideal.

Quite convenient, I use this with 3 unique 1TB difficult drives to back up unique information on each. The ease of use is good, no much more swapping drives in or out of an external enclosure. Not certain why.. but the drive sometimes will unmount if the personal computer goes to sleep. Usually when the drive spins down soon after not being use for a period of time, the drive will not spin back up when the personal computer attempts to access the drive. When this takes place, I have to power down the Thermaltake unit and then restart, commonly without having any problems. Its just bothersome that it does not wake when accessed, and even much more bothersome when I get the message that the disk was not effectively ejected... Not positive if this is a pc issue or a predicament with the USB external adapter... I'm using a quad iMac, looking the Thermaltake or Apple web page does not lead to any resolutions.

Thermaltake BlacX 5G 2.5/3.5IN SATA3 Hard Drive Docking Station USB3.0
Cons:docking opening seem a bit fragile

Pros:easy to setup, comes with everything + extra
Comment:
this docking station comes with everything you needed and very easy to setup. All cables are long enough for most of the desktop setup. USB 3.0 speed is very good too. speed is almost like you have the HD installed internally on PC. The only thing that I prefer to be better is the plug. When plug it in must be very carefully not to over push, most of the time you cannot feel if it's completely plugin. So remember to be careful when swaping drive.

Just received this dock, and I think it's great. I dock my 1TB WD Blue backup drive in it. Thermaltake BlacX 5G 2.5/3.5IN SATA3 Hard Drive Docking Station USB3.0
Cons: - If the 3.5" drive isn't thick enough, it has the potential to angle forward (which could be bad for the connection and hard drive)- the protection covers that come with the dock don't cover the whole hard drive, so if the hard drive is unstable, consistent vibrations may result in damage to the hard drive

Pros: - Supports all the desired features; SATA I, II, & III, USB 1.0 to 3.0, HDD/SDD 2.5" and 3.5" Drives- Comes with one 2.5" and one 3.5" drive protector- Looks cool
Comment:
This is an excellent device that can easily replace an external hard drive case. I bought it for the convenience of swapping hard drives in and out. It supports all the USB types and all the SATA types as well as 2.5" and 3.5" HDD/SSD's.The only downside is that the protection covers that come with the dock don't cover the entire hard drive. Depending on the size of the hard drive, it may not be stable enough to prevent vibrations and movement.I would definitely buy this product again.
