Bought two: 1 as a backup drive for my windows workstations/laptop, and the other as a backup drive for my debian linux server.Both worked good the first day. The next day both units were incredibly hot to the touch and I could not read the data on eighter drive.

I was afraid that an enclosure would just house my hard drive, this enclosure has really keeps my hard drive in there nice. It feels like a regular external hard drive. Pretty easy to use.

I like this enclosure, it is slim enough that I can put it inside my shirt pocket and it comes with cables and even a small screw driver. I love it.

Used this product to transfer needed files from the harddrive of my laptop (an older Dell) that died. Now it can be an external drive for my new PC. Slight debit in performance only because Windows Vista never thinks it's "safe to remove" this hardware - but that's probably a Vista problem.

This is an excellent USB 2.0 enclosure, but take a look at ULT40244. It is the same drive and it includes eSATA for the same price. The drive is very solid and preforms well. It uses a second USB cable for extra power, which was necessary for my 500 Gb WD drive.

So far I have 5 of these with 500gb Seagates in them and they are incredible! I started with 1 and couldn't believe how fast it was and doesn't seem to get extremely hot when running for hours on end. I use them to store video and audio segments for my mobile recording business and will be getting more. Can't say enough good things about them!!

For my MacBook the time had come for me to upgrade the internal hard drive and I wanted to salvage it for mobile backups. So, after I got my new 500 GB HD installed I took the old 250 GB HD and placed it into the ULTRA HD Enclosure. Talk about PERFECT! Fits great, comes with screwdriver, awesome sleek brushed aluminum look that goes great with my computer. Couldn't be happier with my purchase!

This enclosure is superb: solid construction and clear instructions are combined to bring this product from its package and into your computing lifestyle. The aluminum exterior is solid: I'm pretty sure I'd be able to bend it, but not without rupturing important blood vessels throughout my body. The frame that hides some of the screws and holds both ends of the enclosure together feels cheap, but it doesn't need to be as tough as the case that it hugs. The circuit board is burly, the LEDs are bright, and all the cords it comes with are or surprising quality. Probably not completely cat-proof, but as close as you'll get. In the package, you'll find that a small, magnetized screw driver will make your day complete (As long as you are one of those "easily satisfied" people, it might even make your week). My only qualm is that the enclosure is so form fitting: I had to jiggle it a bit to get my hard drive to where it needed to be. But in the end, all is well. Thumbs Up!

Great price, very sturdy construction. Definitely trust this thing to protect your drive. Very bright light lets you know it is doing business. Easy to setup and use, got it in use just 2 minutes out of the box. Love not having to use another cable to use for power (but they include it just in-case you need it). Using it to use a 160GB hard drive out of my girlfriend's laptop that got the board fried on my desktop now (gotta love siblings).

I used this enclosure in an emergency situation to rescue files from a friend's dead laptop. I'd never done this before, but just followed my instincts (the directions for assembly were a bit vague) and within 10 minutes, everything was assembled, plugged in, and I was able to access my friend's files from the laptop hard drive. I can't speak to long-term performance of the enclosure, but it did what was stated in the sales description. The price is right, too!

Inexpensive,easy to assemble,and it works great. Now I can use the 250 Gig hard drive from my dead laptop as a portable backup drive for the new laptop. I was thrilled that I was able to retrieve my data from the drive. Some of it hadn't been backed up. Once I'm sure I've got everything I need off of it, I'll reformat it.

My only complaint is that the casing looks a bit loose. My drive would not fit without first removing the padding on the inside of the faceplate, and even then I have slight gaps (0.5-1.5mm) between the sides and the face/back plates. That being said, the construction IS actually solid. The screws hold very well, and there is enough space between the top/bottom and the actual drive that (combined with the sturdiness of the metal) excess pressure on the top or bottom will not disturb the drive inside. The USB cable that comes with it is surprisingly long and thick. Rare is the opportunity to see a product-included cable of such quality, but I might swap it out for a shorter, lighter one just for travel. So far the USB socket is a nice snug fit with the cable, although I do not know how long that will last. I don't see the point of the little carrying case, considering brushed aluminum is difficult to scratch or get fingerprints on, but it is icing on the cake.
