Ultra X3 ULT40070 1600-Watt Power Supply - ATX, SATA-Ready, PCI-E Ready, Energy Efficient, Modular
Comment:
It is large and takes up a lot of space. There are two different power cables one is for 15 Amp hook up and the other is for 20 Amp. The 15 Amp will only provide around 1200 W of DC Power and it takes the 20 Amp cord for the full 1600 W of DC Power. It takes a special NEMA 5-20R Power outlet for the 20 Amp cord. Plenty of cords come with power supply for the modular hook up. It is also equipped with 2 fans for cooling - One out the back and one on the bottom. I have had no problems with this Power Supply other than the space it takes up in the case, but I have a bottom mounted power supply case that provides clearance for air and this did not effect me that much.

Works great. NOTE: If you're installing the PSU inside a case where the PSU mounts on the bottom (such as the Thermaltake Spedo case), be sure to have the computer elevated a bit off the floor to prevent the air blowing out of the large fan on the bottom of the unit from being trapped. By design, the PSU shuts itself off if it gets too hot (Thermal Overload Protection). I ran into this problem yesterday. I came to find out later that my PSU was overheating cause it wasn't getting good airflow. So, I set a couple of boxes underneath the xomputer case to elevate it off the floor a bit today and now it drives like a dream. :) I gave it a good 30+ minutes of Unreal Tournament 3 today and it had no problems. Definitely recommended for whatever upgrades you may have in mind.

I bought three to run a triple sli GTX 280, one died after 2 hours and the other two couldnt even feed triple GTX 280 , yeah iknow that they run @ 1200 watt without using the special plug but still its more like a 900-Watt psu.

This is one of the best power supply that money can buy. Great cable management options because of the removable cables. The psu puts out tons of power. Only downside to this psu is the 80mm fan on the front can be a tad noisy if your computer is right next to you. This is a GREAT buy. (The psu is closer to black then the dark silver in the picture)

Ultra X3 ULT40070 1600-Watt Power Supply - ATX, SATA-Ready, PCI-E Ready, Energy Efficient, Modular
Comment:
This power supply is very powerful. To access the full 1600 watts you need a 20 amp circuit with a ''t-slot'' outlet. I had to install a dedicated 20 amp circuit to drive my system. Don't worry, with normal outlets it will work, but is a waste because it will only run at 1200 watts. The 15 amp cord has a circuit breaker in it. This psu has more than enough cables, I am running two 9800 gx2s in quad sli with an nvidia 790i ultra mobo, intel qx9650. No ocing. This psu keeps its voltages stable, even under heavy load.

Ultra X3 ULT40070 1600-Watt Power Supply - ATX, SATA-Ready, PCI-E Ready, Energy Efficient, Modular

I bought this power supply to power my newly upgraded PC. The cooling fan was quite but with 110 input it did not have enough power to power my system. Every time I had a video load, the video card gave the orange (not enough power) light . TD expressed a replacement but it took 2 of the power supplies to run my system stable. One for the video card, one for my system. I returned both PS, got the Thermaltake 1200Watt, works fine (the Enermax 1000Watt did too). Ultra Tech support was friendly, but they recommend I return it since it was not compatible with my system. TD nicely refunded my purchase. Works like a charm. Very powerful. Cannot imagine having enough equipment to need 1600 watts but nice to have some headroom with the new technology and the power hungry components. One thing I would like to make note of is that you will hear the fans on this thing even if all others are off. This would not make for a silent pc install at all. Even watercooled setup will sound like any other air setup. Not really loud but you will not forget it is there with the sound coming out of the case. The Zalman 1000 watt I had was SILENT but failed within 3 days.

For the people who say that you need to make case mods i have to say your wrong. first and foremost when you get a powersupply of this size you generally 99 percent of the time have a full size tower if not then you got a waste of power(since you dont have the room to harness the power) if your someone like me and need a immense ammount of power (sli overclocked up the wazoo). For those who need the power then this is a great choice. BUT ONCE AGAIN PLEASE DONT SAY YOU NEED TO MOD YOUR CASE BECAUSE YOU HAVE A MIDTOWER.

I have a Silverstone TJ07 and the big baby slipped right in no problem. Now, for whatever reason that you have a mid tower, things may be a little tight. This PSU is a master piece. I'm impressed.

Pretty pricey, but i guess if you want this much wattage you don't care anyways. Its a pretty big PSU and wont fit in 99% of cases without some serious modifications, but the performance is great and the way you can add what cables you need really makes this worth getting (as long as you have tools able to modify the case available)
