Appealing casing does not pick up fingerprints (wish laptop manufacturers could figure this a single out). Functions as advertised. Internal drive frame is too tiny for typical (older) IDE challenging drives. Not enough space at the rear end of internal frame for IDE & power cables. Stupid tiny energy connector for front LED has to be disconnected/reconnected every time you open/close the case and looks fragile. Rear plate screws do not align properly. Pressure points inside make it incredibly difficult to insert/remove drive. This case looks incredibly nice and it does operate (thus 2 eggs rather of a single). But the functional style of this thing sucks. The internal frame is so tight, you don't even will need screws to hold your drive and it takes five-ten minutes to get the drive out. Don't purchase this factor to use as a method of recovering old drives (which is what I bought it for). If you're going to stick a single drive in it and leave it, it may well be OK. For me, the principal cause to get an enclosure rather than a pre-built external HDD is the ability to swap difficult drives; but, you can't do that with this thing.

This enclosure is suh-weeeet! Connections are chimp-uncomplicated, it hugs my old 160gb IDE HDD like an aluminum glove, and everything came together like hippies about a campfire, singing "Kumbaya". The striking, glossy red finish is surprisingly resistant to fingerprints. Chrome-&-black accents supplied by the front and rear panels are a perfect counterpoint. Also incredibly cool is that the soothing blue power indicator is really Vantec's logo. It's a classy and well engineered product that looks good enough to eat. What's with the weird PS2 connector on the AC energy adapter??? And what's with the comments about complicated assembly??? Seriously, if you can't put this thing together in 10 minutes or much less, you certainly shouldn't run with scissors! I purchased this enclosure hoping to rescue data from a drive that inexplicably phailed. However, it now appears specific that my data is unrecoverable, as neither Windows nor Linux can "see" a volume. It's detected fine in BIOS and shows up in Device Manager, but won't "mount" in either OS.

Looks Fantastic. Failed on me 9 months into ownership, but I was utilizing a drive known to have issues in the 1st location, so I didn't think much of it. It was after 13 months of ownership (past warranty) that I realized that the enclosure failed, not the drive.The internal construction is flimsy. The back plugs aren't mounted to the back plate, but to the controller chip itself, which implies plugging in the energy cord can run the threat of damaging the chip. An IDE cable in that tight of a space is challenging to manipulate, and almost impossible if the drive's pins are not lined up with the cable.

No cooling device This is a fantastic small enclosure if employed with an under 500 GB IDE difficult drive, other appear to get rather hot. Even after hours of data transfer (backing up content material from older HDDs) it was not hot. All of my drives work perfectly with it and it looks great too. And the factor doesn't really feel cheap. The all-aluminum construction was incredibly nicely built and it feels as if it was a lot more than worth what I paid for it. Looks Cool, and That its SEEMED like its a very good buy. Thats till U opened the actual case and uncover ONLY for IDE and also ONLY usb1.1 Via 12mb transfer rate. I am not going to sit here and sry when yes I should of looked far more carefully at and did a lot more analysis but do that my word just Go read it for your self just before buying a couple like I did, TO ME IMO, They purposely made it seem like This modle like the other precise exact same looking design version but it has included a IDE to SATA adapter I dont know what priece distinction but anyway had it included but Only located it in fine print inside the directions that NST-360U2-RD Only has a included adapter and not NST-360U2, and guess what else, NO refund or exchanges.. Like they knew. So i bought a couple of lemons wrapped in Silk, not gonna be the last time I ll do some impulsed obtain , but just a bit dissapointed because the trouble, I ll will never ever get anyhing from newegg Since they are in my opinion "In on it" I mean cmon who the hell encloses IDE Challenging drives these days, I can see maybe a third globe country if they even exist anymore. again and specifically VANTACK you keep makeing 1 time consumers and see what occurs. Uncomplicated setup, solid construction, works as advertised. Employing a 300GB Seagate 7200.9. Energy brick is annoying. Plastic for stand has affordable really feel to it. Could be smaller. Thanks newegg!

This enclosure is excellent. I own 6 of them. been using them for a server. I have 320g drives in all of them. two of the enclosures have been left on for over a year and 1ǘ. with no reset or power off problems. Superior dependable enclosure. none I bought these over a period of about 6 months. excellent and consistence have been the same through all 6 enclosures. the new power adapters are good. I have four with the old style and 2 with the new style.

Works like a charm, plug and play in windows 7, I was able to get back all my files from my old desktop.I'm going to get a couple more, to get those un-utilized old HD back to use. Power supply plug is very bulky good deal for the price

Looks good, simple to assemble and disassemble. Inexpensive. Two units did not function. Initial unit was DOA dead on arrival. It in no way powered up. Replacement unit only powered up on 1 of two IDE disk drives. But several computers could recognize the unit as a readable hard drive. So I returned that 1 for a refund. Will need to attempt another brand, got burned for return shipping twice. Maybe retail next time, no shipping charges that way.

This is 1 good-searching enclosure. Assembly is quick and straightforward, and the aluminum construction allows for sufficient cooling. I seriously, seriously wish that the back panel was additional solidly constructed. My initially enclosure broke when it fell off of my desk, only a few feet down...onto carpet. Genuinely, as long as you're careful with it, this is a good enclosure. It's affordable, and it's very eye-catching.

Solid construction, simple to attach drive, plug-and-play USB. The enclosure does get a bit warm, but considering that there is no cooling fan, this isn't too surprising. Given how warm the drive gets, I would be hesitant to use this device full-time as an external HD. Works nicely for backing up information from internal drives to external drives. I would buy this item once again.
