They did not burn my property down. I purchased 3 distinct WD Green Drives. They each failed more than a period of weeks and months. The third one particular just failed right after nine months. I have bought about seven WD Black drives. A single was DOA, possibly due to improper packing and shipping (UPS Ground). The other individuals have all served me effectively. For now, I am sticking with WD Black drives and I recommend you do, too. And I recommend WD cease selling the Green drives until or unless they can make them work adequately.

WD - what I have come to anticipate. Fast quiet drive for use in an external ESATA or USB2 case. AV drive is my current option for reliability. None - hopefully for numerous years... Require an external case? Look at ල-145-074 BYTECC HD-35SUS-BK RTI partition and format with Partition Magic Totally free. Works rapidly and operates with Raid.

* Whisper quiet.* Lots quickly for the application.* Low power * They tend to run hot without having correct coolingI GIVE two EGGS FOR NEWEGG SHIPPING.Bubble wrapped and in a box w/ peanuts. The peanuts had been worthless as the drive bounced around to the bottom of the box so that all the peanuts were on leading of the drive.Getting read other evaluations I expected that so I bought 1 dive from Newegg and the other five from other outlets. Newegg, please figure out a greater way to ship bare drives! These drives are performing much better than expected in my application.I built a 6-disc Linux software RAID-50 NAS technique with these drives. My major issues were low power consumption and quiet operation. Media streaming from a NAS does not demand blazing speed and these drive are up to the activity. There are 6 in the case and I cannot hear them running, even when under a full load. When operating continuously for more than about 30 minutes they will get quite hot so add sufficient cooling. I saw 55C on all 6 when building the array before I got a larger case with better cooling. I now have 2 120mm fans blowing across the 6 drives and temps are 25CችC idle/load.They are created to be left on 24ǝ and since I'm not hammering away at the array 99% of the time they need to hold up just fine.

Massive. Low-cost. I purchased 4 of these for a RAID method. Suitable off the bat some specialized software (zfs) detected silent data corruption errors on a single of the disks. Soon after a few months one more disk began failing in a way that made it almost impossible to recover the information. Immediately after booting from DOS and working with some little known software package from WD I was in a position to recover most of my information but I expect that most users would not be willing or able to go to these lengths. There are several recognized troubles with these drives. 1) The drive heads park also frequently which will trigger them to fail with a year or two. If you have the tools you can read the S.M.A.R.T. data off of these drives and seed the number of instances the heads have been parked. My drives showed about 68K parks after only a few months of usage. The drives are expected to fail soon after 300K parks. You can operate about this by booting to DOS and running WDs tool for changing the park timeout.two) These drives are not good in a RAID atmosphere.TBC They are not created for RAID. You can make them more RAID compatible by making use of a tool called WDTLER.EXE in DOS to lower the error timeout limit, if you can locate it.3) Too a lot of of these drives fail early. Do you truly want to trust 1.5GB of data to a faulty drive?

Excellent drive. Very rapid and has been great to date. I think it is quicker than the HD I replaced... not a lot faster, but you can see the difference. My son says that SPORE (game) runs faster. He also utilizes it with X-Plane with no difficulties. Perhaps the 32MB cache makes the distinction. The initially 1 arrived DOA. I talked with Newegg and new one particular arrived a couple of days later. Shipping may have induced the 1st dilemma. Fantastic service with Newegg. No issues. Applied this drive to replace the HD in my 20" iMac Intel Core two Duo. Receiving to the HD in the iMac is some thing of a chore but you can get photographs and suggestions on the internet. You will need to have a wide variety of modest torx screwdrivers. Be positive to know exactly which iMac you have. Be prepared to invest about an hour to do all the labor. Quicker than that if you know the fundamentals. Replacement was a cinch. Applied Mac Time Machine backup from my WD Green 1TB external difficult drive to replace all the software. That was a pleasant expertise. System software program, system software package, desktop- all precisely as ahead of. Anything worked just as promised! Wow!

Virtually silent with totally no vibration and runs quite cool. None so far. Just wish WD would provide a 5 year warranty rather of 3 on this drive.

I have three, no troubles. So far so excellent. I might be lucky but have in no way had an concern with any WD drive. None so far. I use a 2TB in a DVR and two 1.5 TB's in the media desktop for video storage. Perform perfectly for media storage and streaming. Speed isnt an concern and shouldnt be when utilized for the developed applications of these drives. Will be adding much more in the future.

Affordable1.5tb Had 1 that died 3 weeks immediately after use. Had it RMA'd by means of Western Digital where they gave me a "Recertified" one.Died right after a couple of months of use with out warning. Random beeping, clicking, then grinding and unable to grab information off of it. Won't be purchasing any of the "Caviar" series, or any Western Digital anymore. If I have to get Western Digital, will put down the money for the RE3 or enterprise tough drives.

Incredibly quiet, low vibration, cool temperatures none I bought this drive following trying to locate the very best DVR/PVR sort drive for my home server that is on 24ǝ. Only a few came up but the Seagate seem to poorly built now-a-days, Samsung was hard to come across the right version, and the Western Digital which I have generally had good luck with. I stream video from this drive across my network and the final results have been very good.

Massive, low power, surprisingly decent speed. They are sort of ok for OS disks...best for storage. I would not want to play games off of these disks, but they are great for my storage system. Bought 4 drives, none were doa - which is a huge relief since so quite a few other brands are plagued with doa drives more than 1TB when configured in a hardware RAID, I could not get win7 to successfully install (ya I know there are RE from WD, but screw that I am not paying that considerably)proper now I am employing a software RAID in win 7, every little thing working very good so far

Wonderful size : cost ratio. Developed particularly for HTPC storage. Wonderful speed performance. Failed following 6 months. The HTPC started becoming unresponsive in the course of recording and playback, checked the logs and low and behold the drive is riddled with poor sectors. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, 6.3Gb root partition, 2Gb swap & 1.4 Tb xfs media partition. Now with 595 poor sectors.

Quiet, low heat A small on the slow side compared to regular drives. It's an OK drive not a leading notch drive but not a junk either. This drive spools down when not in use and it takes time for it to spool up when becoming taxed. This is a variable speed drive.
