I purchased this drive to merely add some space for music and videos. Uncomplicated to install, Windows 7 friendly. Didnt comprehend the item did not come with a Sata cable.

The pros are... I have had two of these for just about 3 years now with no troubles whatsoever. WD is a lot much better than the seagate I purchased and it pooped out immediately after a year. This one was DOA. BUT having mentioned that... items take place. And it most most likely was UPS fault. Set up an RMA, using the cash to support a buddy out with a mobo. 1 DOA, out of numerous WD I have purchased is not undesirable. I nevertheless give the factor five eggs.

The drive seemed to carry out acceptably for 5 months. The drive died soon after just 5 months. My situation is clean inside and I don't abuse the computer. I walked away from a game for a few minutes and came back to discover the computer frozen up, and the tough drive clicking. It no longer mounts, even in an external enclosure. Western Digital's RMA method was quite effortless to use. I only had to sort in the serial number and they mailed me a new drive 4 days later.

Great drive in terms of stability, efficiency, and energy consumption. More than sufficient space for multiple media storage such as Music, Games, Videos, all you can feel off. You feel like you've unlimited storage (you don't of course.) It's very quiet, only at start up it whirs quickly, but that's about it, pretty typical. The tricky drive is Eco-friendly, this is a superior issue, but normally this implies the driver will use less energy, as a result resulting in a "bit" slower Read/Write performance. But not a massive con to take an Egg off. Make certain you don't run the operating program on this drive if you are preparing to use it for storage. It will drastically reduce personal computer's overall performance. Have a separate drive of at least 80GB for the Operating Program, and Use this 1TB for the storage and games and other medias. Duly noted that acquiring both in the drive when Reading/Writing, all round speed overall performance decreases and lag a bit. But this drive is worth your funds, fits perfectly for my use. I am a gamer, but this drive is just best for the price range. Buy it Quick!

Quietest drive I own. None I installed this drive in my HD TIVO following the prior two both created a clunking, clicking noise all the time. This drive solved that. Now my wife (who complained about the noise) and I are pleased with our no-noise replacement.

quiet and reputable so far tiny slower than other drives but not adequate to make it a bad drive. the quiet reliability is way much better than saving a handful of seconds for my demands. for the moment this is a major information drive and not a gaming or performance needed drive. data generally grows larger and more speed is needed, but for the moment the speed to size ratio seems reasonable to me. would advise this drive for everyone needing backup or a lot more drive storage.

Fantastic cost. Low energy consumption and extremely quiet and cool. Not extremely speedy at all. As others have mentioned, its performance is not that high. In truth, it under-performs an old 300G Seagate by a LOT.Nevertheless, I purchased it as a storage drive for a HTPC so I am not complaining. I required low energy and heat and lots of volume with no the noise and this delivered.I maintain checking to see if it is genuinely one particular of the new 4k sector drives and I will need to align it for performance but it seems not.

Good cost for a 1 TB drive. Quiet, performs fine, what's not to like? The very first one I got failed. Not precisely DOA, but stopped working soon immediately after. The RMA method is quick and uncomplicated. If you use a credit card, they will send you a new drive ahead of you ship the old 1, and you have 30 days to send it. I got my replacement drive in about 3 days. Or, you can skip the credit card and wait for them to send you the new drive soon after they get the old 1. I recommend you run a full disk encryption or other procedure that writes to the whole drive just before starting to use a new drive. I did that with my 1st drive (I employed TrueCrypt) after it initialized and formatted fine, and it failed partway through. With the second drive, the encryption succeeded and the drive has been great.

great price tag, fantastic brand. Installed as a storage drive with a SSD as the boot drive. Worked fine for about 6 hours, then windows began reporting error's with the tough disk. I checked the disk for errors, and it found them and mentioned they had been repaired. within five minutes windows reported errors once more. Mailing my RMA in tomorrow. 10$ shipping :/ I've been fairly lucky so far that is my very first DOA or defective item from newegg. Hopefully the new a single will operate, and I'll be able to give a new rating on this item.

The quietest drive I've ever owned ࿈y+) left copying overnight and it was only lukewarm. This is going to be a great USB storage drive considering that heat and vibration are main difficulties with MTBF. You only get about 930GB right after partitioning. Fine for me. Not a knock on the drive, an enclosure problem: neither Win7 or Ubuntu ten server could locate it when installed in my old Macally G-S350SUA enclosure. Functions fine with Win7 and Ubuntu ten server when I employed a SATA to USB adapter. I'm ordering a new USB three. enclosure.

quiet slow, work needed to set up drive for Tivo HD This disk is not speedy but I am pleased. If you pick this drive to upgrade your Tivo HD, nota bene: the Tivo Drive Expansion and Drive Upgrade FAQ is your friend, and right after upgrade Tivo reboot is slow: BE PATIENT.The FAQ informs us that we have use WDIDLE3 to disable the "intellipark" feature on the drive. But the FAQ hyperlinks to a bad ISO image so I had to build a custom ISO utilizing Ultimate Boot CD plus WDIDLE3. Soon after operating "WDIDLE3 /S 300" I attempted a Tivo soft reboot and got only static. I then tried "WDIDLE3 /D" to disable the intellipark altogether and was disappointed to get static once more. Although I was pouting the Tivo rebooted fine. Yay! So be patient: the static during a reboot lasts for 100s.

Low power, super quiet, excellent price to size ratio makes it terrific for backup / storage. Slower read write speeds, wouldn't use it for the boot drive in a high performance technique. I use four in a Drobo for a substantial capacity backup resolution, and they've been operating well. The drives are barely audible even under heavy load, and the cost per gig can't be beat.

Put Win 7 Pro on it yesterday, still running fine and quiet these days. None so far. This drive replaced a Western Digital 750 gigger that died immediately after 3 months. I hope this 1 lasts at least three years! Thankfully I had a drive image of the 750 on an additional drive and was in a position to recover almost everything.

Supposedly can manage 24ǝ workload needed of a DVR, security program, or other light-duty server. Runs quiet. A bit slow. This drive won't win any speed contests, but if you're working with it as your main drive on a desktop, you're missing the point. It's job is to present mediocre performance *continuously* with no melting. I've had many common challenging drives just give up following a little under a year in 24ǝ DVR operation, which this drive shouldn't do.

Cost, Size, Quiet, Effective, Wonderful for media storage. I got these drives to replace 2 Seagate ST310005N1A1AS-RK 1TB 7200 RPM Drives which get a massive fat fail from me.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148321I got the drives to backup loved ones Videos and Pictures but the Segate ones I bought a small much less than a year ago kept droping out of my raid1 mirror. I come to locate out that Segate's drives don't play nice with Raid configs. So I decided to go with WD, I've had Great results with WD in the past even their older 300GB and 600GB drives are still runing now going on 8+ years. So I'm hoping the excellent on these "GREEN" drives are just as great. I could say the 5400Rpm is a bit of a drawback, but these drives are produced for storage of DVR media and content so as storage drives on a Raid1 mirror they are ideal.I would never recommend them as principal drives that get continuous access. I have 2 10,000rpm raptors on raid0 for OS. I can only give them a rating based on their efficiency so far. Since I've only had them for about 1 month they are doing quite effectively, but time will tell. I will update my post right after about 3 months and then again at 6.My seagate drives have now been reconfigured to be single non-important drives, so if they do go out I just won't miss what's on them.

Got this as an upgrade to my Tivo HD (following the directions at tivocommunity's subject 370784#S5). Also I bought the Silverhill Tool Kit for Xbox and Xbox 360, 6 Piece to basically open up my TivoHD. This drive worked like a charm! It is dead silent in the Tivo (ie - no noise, not noisy) and came with AAM automatically set to the Tivo-perfect 128. Also didn't have to worry about wdidle3 because the reboots appear to work OK. Copied every little thing over with winmfs (about three hours, give or take) and viola! Can't speak for lengthy-term reliability, but its excellent otherwise as of the date of this posting (October 2010). Cheers! Don't know about lengthy-term reliability yet.
