Comment:
Ideal match for HD TIVO. For a DVR speed is rather irrelevant as even a 4800 RPM drive from a couple years ago is much more than capable of sustaining speed requiring to study/write two HD streams. So far more importantly is compatibility and noise. These drives are whisper quiet with low energy consumption. Some of newer WD "Green" drives (WD10EACS, WD10EADS) have troubles with Tivo Series 3 and hanging on soft reboot so really should be stay away from. This drive (and other individuals in WD AV-GP line) have no concern. None. The exact drive utilised by Tivo (in Tivo XL) is the WD10EVVS which is really comparable but only has 8MB of cache. Usually this drive charges far more so WD10EVDS is much better deal.If WD10EVDS ࿀MB cache, 1TB, AV use) is sold out WD10EVCS ྰMB cache, 1TB, AV use) or WD10EVVS ƘMB cache, 1TB, AV use) function equally properly.

Lots of capacity. three year warranty. When completely spun up the rotational rate is 7200 rpm. Decrease energy consumption than WD's Blue and Black drives. None that I know. Apparently, this drive slows down its spindle speed when not accessed after a lengthy time out. However, when accessed the speed goes up to 7200 rpm. It's not clear whether the drives completely spins down immediately after an even longer time when not becoming accessed.

The one that worked is excellent, quiet, cool, and works good in my Rosewill R2-JBOD dual bay Enclosure. This configuration runs perfect from each my Windows7 Pc and my Mac Mini One drive came DOA. Plugged into the External enclosure and my Computer, neither place worked. Drive didn't spin up or anything. Never ever got a DOA drive just before, guess it was my turn.... Newegg was great about replacing the DOA drive and offered a pre-paid shipping label. I continue to be a happy newegg buyer!

It's lasted six months.Gaps involving songs are brief, couple of and far between (this drive shops my music collection as .flac files) compared to other magnetic media I've utilised in the past. *Noticeable* gaps between songs are *not* non-existent, which means true seek times Ӭ.5seconds = 𞸤milliseconds, not ㅂmilliseconds advertised. Not saying that advertised seek times are fraudulent, just that they're averages with considerable, unadvertised variance. All hard drives are advertised like this, yet none of them really should mainly because it is deceptive to list only an average when actual efficiency depends on the variance, which is so big, so I'm docking one complete egg just for that. It's fair. It is supposedly an "AV" drive right after all!The other egg I subtracted is carry-more than for the one particular it replaced, which I naturally rated also high, mainly because it failed. One more WD hard drive recently failed after significantly less than 1 year, yet all round my encounter with WD is much better than with the other two main really hard drive brands. This is the finest brand, but it's constantly a gamble with hard drives, so I've decided that I no longer give hard drives five stars. There is no five-egg storage but SSD, per WD replaced the failed drive with a larger capacity equivalent that's still working so far, but only *after* I RMA'd the failed drive. That's standard and anticipated, but it signifies I have to have further capacity laying about to recover information from failing drives since the technologies (magnetic storage on physically rotating platters) is fundamentally flawed, as a result the rise of SSD.I was prepared and saved my data, but it's still annoying. If the efficiency of this flawed, failure-prone technologies was *better* than the functionality of the alternative then I could begin with five stars and subtract a single for every Con. But it isn't. As I mentioned in Pros & Cons, overall performance is no superior than "good" in no way "great" so: 4-twoɤ eggs.I hesitated to price this so low because the other brands are so substantially worse in my practical experience, but in the end becoming least negative doesn't excuse advertising this as "AV" offered the aforementioned functionality AND reliability issues.Avoid disappointment. Count on medio

low power, quiet, capacity None Individuals that have listed cons on this drive for efficiency troubles should not be employing them in PCs unless they are for Media Center PCs and then only for information. This is a customized drive for DVRs. They are developed for Audio and Video content, not system volumes.

Low cost. Very first drive DOA. Failed smartctl. RMA-ed, no dilemma. Second drive - bad sectors, negative blocks. There will be no third drive. This is electronic recycle. Absolutely nothing against Newegg, they've been fantastic as usual. My time is worth something. If I RMA this drive, I would have to test the third drive halfway to destruction, and I would never ever trust it. No a lot more WD. They've taken my cash, hope they're happy. It is the last they'll get from me.

After I finished installation I've had no difficulties at all. The drive is speedy, quiet and has all the space I've been needing for a very good when at a pretty affordable cost. This is possibly just my own ignorance, but I didn't realize the drive wasn't formatted at all, I assumed it was just plug-and-play. After a quick tutorial I located on the web, even though, I had no problems. Just be conscious there's some tech stuff to do before you start out running it, but nothing you can't do by following some instructions.

Delivers what is promised. Extremely quiet and cool operating drives. None so far. Bought for RAID5 in NAS box. If one wants to enable the SSC function, 1 will need to have to give their personal shunts to jump the pins; none are integrated with the drive.

had two of these drive and in one particular year they had now because died on me. incredibly sad thinking of. they were really quiet had accessed data fairly quickly but in the end died after a year. had 2 die on me.. i have since these two have died replaced with yet another wd black caviar two tb 64mb cache, this drive is alot more rapidly and nicer then this one. and also replaced with a seagate 1.5 tb cuda. again nicer. i would propose seagate cuz their warranty is 5 yr and their customer service is alot nicer then that of western digital.

Fantastic price for the storage, and a excellent, quiet drive. Will not operate with a series two tivo Installed on a Tivo series 2 with a hardware bridge, Tivo would not recognize the tough drive. Used an old 250 gig sata (same bridge) no challenge for the Tivo. I believe this series of AV drive has a challenge with the Tivo Series 2 machines even with a hardware bridge from IDE to SATA. Would not recommend for a Tivo Series two upgrade. Oh Well.

excellent size and functions for price Really unreliable, slow functionality when it does perform. one hundred% failure rate in a 1 year period. three drives, 3 bricks. WD black drives have often been wonderful, but the green drives are horrible. They are slow and prone to read/write errors and just get worse with time till you loose sufficient information and have enough file operation lockups that you throw the drive out. Stay away from the green drives at all costs!

Drive tailored for use with DVR form applications. Bought the Rosewill RX358-S Black with this drive. Instantaneously recognized and formatted by the DVR and operates perfectly. Drive and external enclosure each stay cool to the point exactly where I question the need for keeping the fan on 24ǝ but am performing to ensure extended term reliability of the drive. Both incredibly quiet. None.

This is a good replacement HD for the Direct Television HR21 DVR. The only tricky job was taking the unit apart to replace the drive. Just set up the drive and energy up DVR and the drive is set up. I saved about 贬.00 by working with this drive over purchasing one from a DVR HD replacement vender. Be careful when you take the DVR apart as not to break the plastic clips. You can use tooth picks to hold them open. None as of yet

Cool & Quiet, as advertised. Worked out of the box. none so far Using this drive as a video directory in my WinXP-based PVR. Formatted in 64k blocks, non-RAID. This isn't an Sophisticated Formatting drive, and I'm pleased about that. As indicated above, I've only had the drive for significantly less than a week, so I can't speak to longevity. If anything happens, I'll update this overview, or add yet another. Oh, and newegg rocks.

Designed to run continuously with low energy consumption. Superb for application in HTPCs and PVRs. Also works properly connected to eSATA port on your satellite or cable DVR as further storage. Reduce performance is the trade off for decreased energy consumption and potential to run constantly with no overheating. I purchased this to run as a data drive with an Intel 80GB SSD key drive operating Win7. I have had many current HD failures and wanted one thing a little more stable. The computer is a energy machine far more for editing and moderate gaming, but I also stream media on the drive directly to my Samsung Blu Ray player downstairs.

Fast, quiet, low cost, large capacity. 1 unit is already throwing Smart errors inside four months of buy. Installed a pair of them in RAID1 for a security camera technique. four months later, the server is acting wacky, and 1 of the drives is acting sluggish. Check Wise log, discover read and time out errors.Luckly WD has an great RMA Policy - the drive's replacement is currently on it's way within a day.
