Cons:Drive failed prematurely

I bought 1 of these in August from a different re-seller it failed.I ended up buying an ocz vertex 3 from NCIX to replace it as my boot drive. I did an advance rma with wd it took 15 days for the drive replacement to show up. I called them on day 14 and complained that it was taking so long as they post 3-5 days on their site. They offered to send me a second drive free of charge.Which I gladly accepted.Even though the drive failed they renewed my faith in them I will set up a raid set with the second drive :). On a side note the ocz vertex 3 is insanely fast. On a 7200 rpm hdd I had a 6 min boot time because of all the apps I run . It now boots in less than 30 seconds. |

2TB hard drive is more than enough to put movies, program, pictures, etc. and the performance is good enough for games/programs. I recommand it to get one for your desktop. |

This is an extremely rapid drive, and quite reliable if you make certain you have a fan on it. It meets all expectations for the Caviar Black line. If your priorities are efficiency initial, and reliability in a close second, this is a solid choice. This drive does not support RAID, and requirements a fan on it if you want it to last, just like any other efficiency-oriented drive. Numerous other drives could meet the efficiency of this one particular, but they sacrifice reliability to do so. If you want a trustworthy high-performance drive, there are not many other alternatives in this price range that obtain reasonable longevity. |

Drive performed nicely in benchmarks.Price was superior.Even although this drive bit the dust,I would nevertheless contemplate finding yet another drive(although my Seagate Xt 2tb is nevertheless going powerful immediately after a year).I'll give this one a lot more opportunity.Complications with tough drives is an occurring thing-it happens. I knew there were complications surfacing when errors began occurring. Ran quite warm in cool set up(warm compared to other drives)I took off an Egg for the inconvenience of the drive dying.It just went too rapid. Great thing I have all my data on an External Drive simply because this thing acting up would have set me back a techniques. |

none To clarify EJ's comments in regards to WD's recommendations for these drives in enterprise RAID setups. The WD write-up in question (Answer ID 1397) discusses the drives becoming dropped from a RAID array if the drive enters a "deep recovery cycle". 3 out of 5 of my new drives failed with sector_reallocation errors in the course of initial testing, ahead of any RAID array was developed. This indicates failed drives, not incompatibility with the RAID controller itself. WD does not advocate these drives for use in enterprise RAID unless the RAID controller manufacturer has "designed the controller to function with precise model drives".These drives are listed as a "recommended/compatible" drive by Synology for the DS1511+ NAS. |

I just had a third drive fail, so 3 out of five died in the initially 8 hours of use. I have to call newegg client service and have my RMA updated to consist of three drives now. |

Owned for about 3 months now and had zero problems.Scores a 5.9 on windows 7. This is out of a feasible 7.9 score. If you want a greater score then get SSD.I do not know what others are hearing, but I do not hear any chatter from this drive. My fans on my case are not really loud, but I guess loud adequate so I do not hear this drive.I think this drive is just fine and I consider it best finish. None |

WD says they will ship me out a refurbished drive now, I said I payed for a new drive they still sent me a recertified one, the second drive overheated my fault was not in a well ventilated enclosure and failed oops. RMA took only 2 weeks this time. i would probably buy again because of the 5 year warranty. |

I have two 1TB Caviar Black SATA3 drives, this SATA2 drive is about the same for speed measurements other than burst transfer. I haven't had any problems with this or any of the Western Digital drives I've purchased over the last 15 years. |

What can I say about WD Blacks that hasn't already been said? Fast, reliable storage. I've been a believer since my first WD Black 1TB 32MB cache. YMMV, but unless you're running a giant server stuffed with drives, I don't anticipate major energy savings from running the Green drives; get something faster to get the job done faster! That's efficiency. And since it's built to run at higher speeds, I might even argue that they have to be better built; especially if you're not pushing it all the time. |

Quick and majorSATA III Value, not considerably of a con when you are paying for speed and size. Working perfectly out of the packaging and is one particular of the quickest drive I have had.
