So far, I've had no troubles. It's a Sata 6gbs, but you're not going to get these speeds. Doesn't matter, although, it's plenty quick adequate. Just recall that you'll have to provide your personal hardware and SATA cable. Good deal. 500gb for 60 bones ain't nuthin' to sniff at. I transferred all of my Steam files to it, noticed quicker loading instances, but that's mostly a result of the drive being relatively empty.I'd say, if you need to have some more room, get it. I'll be switching to SSD next year, when I develop my subsequent Computer.

No complaints. This thing does what it's supposed to, and rapidly. There is ZERO difference in between SATA 3gbps and 6gbps. Challenging drives can't transfer much more than about a gig a second, so 6gbps tough drives are totally pointless. Fantastic, sturdy drive. I can see this issue lasting very good 10 years.

No problems at all, installed perfectly. If you don't know what OEM suggests, you shouldn't be shopping for Pc components and putting them together yourself. So quiet, I'd go so far as to advocate it for a HTPC. Compared to my now removed WD6400AAKS, the rumble and chatter this drive makes is much less noticeable. Very rapid boot time even immediately after loading up my method with lots of games and apps. This is by far and away more quickly than my preceding boot drive, a WD 5400 rpm green drive that came with my program originally. None so far. This will absolutely hold me more than until I can save my pennies for an SSD. WEI tops out at the max for mechanical hdd systems now.

I use this for my encoding and standard HTPC wants. I'm not much of a gamer so my desires are fairly meat and potatoes. I didn't wish to break the bank and was just hunting for one thing to hold the OS and my music library, with a tiny operating space left more than to do some encodes. None so far.

Owned 2 of these drives in the past. One drive died after 3 years (Reasonable life) and the other is still going strong. They weren't as fast as I was expecting. They are quite noisy compared to seagate drives but they actually last! If you want a long lasting reliable drive which is a bit pricier buy a western digital. If you want a cheep, faster, quieter drive that is far more likely to blow up and cause you to lose data, the buy a seagate.

I didn't really need the speed this drive offers - this is mostly going to be my "music tank", but the 500 GB WD Caviar Blue now only comes with a 2-year warranty. So for the extra $20 I bought peace of mind that comes with the Black's 5-year warranty.It's a bonus that it's this fast then. It's replacing a very very old original WD Raptor, which was the fastest drive you could get way back when. It easily beats it in terms of speed. It's also much quieter than the Raptor - almost silent. Definitely quieter than my old IDE Samsung that it's also replacing.So despite the emergence of SSDs there obviously has been advancements in mechanical hard drives since the original Raptor!There's nothing to dislike about this drive except HDD prices aren't what they were before floods damaged WD's factory.

Easy to install. I have bought 7 of the Caviar Black HD (some are 640 GB) this past year to be utilised in RAID systems on 3 computer systems. So far, 2 of these HD have failed. The failures had been confirmed with WD Diagnostics. This seems to be an unusually high number, does any person else have such experiences?
