*If* you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, you need to be in a position to use this drive as a secondary, non-bootable drive with no difficulty as this is an advanced format drive (google it if you don't know what that indicates). If you have a newer machine that makes use of UEFI as an alternative of BIOS to boot *and* you are using the 64bit version of Windows 7, you can then use it as a boot drive.Me, I bought it for my Drobo :) It functions excellent - just about every because Information Robotics added support for Advanced Format Drives back in February. I have a significant internal RAID array in my Mac Pro and the new 3TB drives have given me some much required breathing room for Time Machine on my Drobo. Advanced Format Drive. Newer machines only. If you are working with Windows XP - sorry! Time to upgrade! Also be conscious there are 1TB and 2TB advanced format drives out there, although there are workarounds for the smaller drives - not so for drives larger than 2TB. Drive producers and vendors like NewEgg could do a superior job educating men and women about Advanced Format Drives - as it is, there is usually a teeny tiny warning on the tough drive label that I guarantee most people will not notice. It desires to be mentioned prominently in the specifications/descriptions for these newer drives. Advanced Format is in itself a good factor - men and women just will need to be warned about it in case they have older machines that Advanced Format drives won't operate in - particularly for the new, bigger than 2TB drives!

Biggest internal drive to date.Reasonable value for drive.Power efficient.Very Quiet in a decently quiet case. This drive is not suggested for a boot drive. The 2tb ceiling causes concerns. In time businesses will fix this. I just completed a build for a friend yesterday and I would say use an Ssd for the boot drive and this as your big drive for storage. There are approaches to perform about the issues for this drive, but like all ground-breaking components, will get far better over time with BIOS update, driver up-dates and so on...I know most of you are like me and when we acquire our components,we want them to function NOW.But,for super new components you will have to be patient(remember horrible ATI drivers when the 5800 series came out)But above all this drive serves its objective. i-7 950ʃ.8<>Silverstone Raven RVO1<>Asus P6T6 WS Revolution<>EVGA GTX觟 CO-OP,EVGA GTS 詺 for physix(am promoting the 295 for 踗.00 and receiving a 470)<>Corsair 128Gb Ssd<>Western Digital 3Tb Green<ɲgb Patriot Viper ll Sector 7<> Corsair H70<>Asus Xonar D2X<>Samsung Blu Ray drive<>Lite on opty drive<ɭ,000w Silverstone PSU- DA1000<>

So far so very good.. WD has been quite superior for awhile now but with new tech there's constantly a risk. Like with the 2Tb model last year and the 1Tb just before it the cost of these fresh off the assembly line is ridiculous, by subsequent fall it need to be affordable but until then maintain your self bent over when you go to get one and save the hardware businesses the difficulty of leaning you themselves. You people voting 1 egg due to the fact you don't fully grasp what you're buying must be ashamed... Very first the 2.2Tb issue has been discussed many many times in the last 6 months and a great deal of info is currently available on the subject. Acquiring this drive and expecting to boot from it and function with old hardware is absurd. Second I actually saw a person mention that it doesn't come with screws and a cable it makes me wonder if they've ever purchased a BARE drive just before. *sigh*

Uncomplicated and common internal installation. Lots of storage. No complications with Win7 64bit ultimate edition. None. Had to upgrade motherboard bios (asus M4T88D-USB3) to december revision to get the motherboard bios to correctly recognize the drive as 3TB (never checked to see if Win7 had any problems with older bios). Windows 7 64 bit has no issues. Full Format took all night. Restored 1.75TB from a 2TB USB3 drive in about 7 hours, quite rapid.

Spacious, cool and quiet. the Ultimate storage drive You'll need to have a SATA controller and OS that supports that device. Typical write speeds so slow for a bootup drive. Worked fantastic for my Mac Pro

Didn't want to downrate this since I don't but have the enclosure that will use it. I use only a notebook personal computer, Windows 7 x64, with a USB two. interface. It appears to be stated at the link below that with the right SATA/USB bridge chip in your enclosure, the enclosure should operate with this disk.http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id My new enclosure purchased for the purpose of use with this drive will only see 700GB of this drive. It is a StarTech SAT3510BU3 three.five" Black SuperSpeed USB 3. SATA Difficult Drive Enclosure w/ Fan ƕ eggs). There seems to be a clue on which enclosures will function on the WDC website, those with SATA/USB bridges from one of the following producers:ASMedia Technology Freescale Semiconductor Fujitsu Initio Corporation JMicron Technologies Lucidport Technology Silicon ImageSunplus Technologies PLX Technology/Oxford Semiconductor Skymedi Corporation Symwave Texas Instruments Through Technologies Seems like some surfing ought to reveal a workable enclosure for this disk, but I don't want to threat any a lot more of my own time or trouble until somebody else learns what works.

3TB of space. These drives stays fairly cool, I haven't observed my drives go more than 36C even below constant load. This drive does not work on Intel P67 SATA controllers. I have tested three of these drives and two P67 B3 motherboards. If you connect this drive to the P67 controller you will only get 749.39GB unallocated space soon after initializing the drive as GPT - slightly much less immediately after you format with NTFS. This is a disturbing trend with Western Digital drives. I also have an older 400GB WD4000YR that refuses to use Intel controllers as nicely. You Need to use a non Intel SATA controller or a USB dock. If any person at Western Digital cares to believe me my Incident is 110331-007503. I have already been brushed off and told it is a issue with the EFI or Intel's SATA drivers. If that is indeed accurate then Western Digital is not taking an active role to make certain functionality on the most typical controller getting manufactured currently. That - isn't good.

Highest capacity, fairly low power. None basically, I know what I bought, how to use these and the efficiency is as expected. I got 6 drives, operating tests on several RAIDs, currently RAID 10 and I like it so far.

NONE, FOR 32-BIT WXP USERS. DO NOT Obtain THIS DRIVE IF YOU HAVE WXP 32-BIT OR BELOW (W2000, WMe, W98SE, W98, W95). This drive can\'t perform on WXP 32-bit or below, due to the fact it apparently utilizes a diverse addressing technique in the Master Boot Record (MBR). 32-bit operating systems apparently can\'t respond to this new addressing method. There is absolutely nothing on this website or even the Western Digital (WD) website that tells you this directly. Like me, you have to uncover this out the challenging way. Right after two hours of attempting to get my WXP Pro ࿀-bit) to recognize this drive, I called WD assistance. They claim this drive is "fully supported" in WXP. What they did not tell me was that it may possibly only perform in WXP 64-bit. Also, it apparently might not work in any version of Vista or Windows 7, unless you install the PCI Express card that WD sends with the drive. Sadly, the card is apparentonly intended for use in a mini-box. The backplate attachment clip on the card is too short to be employed in a standard ATX box like mine (a Lian-Li 60) Also, WD claims that your OS will automatically recognize the PCI Express card. Regrettably, if your OS does NOT recognize the card, you are in trouble, simply because WD does not provide a driver CD, and there are apparently no drivers for the PCI card anywhere on the WD web-site, or on the world-wide-web. When I purchased this drive 4 days ago, there were four reviews, all 5 eggs. It sounded like a excellent item. Not 1 of the evaluations mentioned any issues with their OS, but as I recall they did not essentially specify what OS they were utilizing. Now all those reviews have mysteriously disappeared, and it appears that I am writing this as the "first individual to review this item", which is not the case, considering that I am essentially the fifth individual to assessment it. I am incredibly disappointed with this product, to say the least. It is undoubtedly NOT prepared for prime time. I have already requested an RMA. IF YOU HAVE A 32-BIT OS, DO NOT USE ANYTHING A lot more THAN A 2.0TB DRIVE (apparently 32-bit OSs have a 2.19TB limitation)

None. Brand new HP 490t, which is their best-of-the-line household desktop machine with a 6-core CPU and 16 GB of Ram and the newest Intel X58 chipset. Windows 7 64-bit. Connected via an SATA cable, the BIOS recognized the drive as 800 GB; Windows believed it was 790 GB. The little mini RAID card would not physically fit in the chassis, so I didn't try it. The box does not contain either drive screws or a cable. It would be good if newegg supplied these on the same page while you're getting the drive.
