Man it's quiet and fast. Used Max Blaster software from my last TigerDirect purchase. Copied all my files over, pulled out the old HD and I was good to go. |

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Cons:Only 3 years warranty.
Pros:Price, WD brand name and reliability Comment:
I am building my new file server. After searching on different brands and models, I find that the WD 640g have very good dollar per Gb ratio at this moment. I got the drive on the DIY week special at $69.99. I wish that all WD hard drives should come with a 5 year warranty. That is only complaint I have right now. |

I've been using this drive for about 6 weeks now and it's been great. I've been using nonstop since I got my new computer and I've never had any problems. The drive performs well in any test I throw at it and it runs cool and is nice and quiet. I'd highly recommend this drive to anyone that is looking for an inexpensive high performance hard drive. |

Comment:
Great Drive for the money. Seventy bucks gets you 640GB. not a bad deal. The drive is really quiet. Its not as fast as I expected but then again speed isn't too critical for what I need. I'm back o buying WD drives again. This is my first one in a couple of years after buying other brands that kept failing. I'm sticking with a brand that has yet to fail for me. |

Good hard drive for the price. Seems to be more reliable than some of the older 500gb WD models I have had in the past. Loving the extra space. |

Best hard drive you can buy from TigerDirect. WD6401AALS Caviar Black is even better, but not much. WD1001FALS 1GB Caviar Black also good but more expensive. |

I am always amazed by Western Digital drives. They are definitely one of the better brands. I've had this drive for 6 days and it is fast , 7200rpm is perfect, and it runs very cool. For the price, you can't go wrong. Only buying W D branded drives from now on. |

Cons:- none
Pros:- fast, quiet, lots of space Comment:
Bought one of these on sale for $70 and it's working great. It's 2 x 320GB platters so it's very fast and also very quiet. Western Digital is a great brand and is my personal favourite when it comes to hard drives especially with reliability. Very satisfied and highly recommended. |

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Cons:None that I have noticed yet.
Pros:Fantastic price to performance/storage capacity - got a great deal on it. Meets manufacturer specs. Quiet. Comment:
I partitioned it with 3 primaries, and 2 extended partitions. First was Windows XP, the next was Linux (for / and /home on separate partitions), and one for Linux Swap at 8GB.Handled the partitioning just fine, formatted nice and quick. Ubuntu's disk checking utilities gave it a nice clean bill of health after all the installations were done; Nice and quick file access/read times and it did very well with transferring files between partitions (NTFS to EXT3 and back).I would definitely recommend this drive. |

Comment:
Bought two; one was dead on arrival - wouldn't spin up. First time I've ever had a bad WD drive, but I suppose it happens. The other one works great - it is very quiet (and cool too). About the references to seek time - if you are a 'speed freak' and don't mind a little noise, you can tweak the drive. |

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Cons:- 80-85 MB/s data read/write. My Seagates go at 105MB/s for the first 30-35%.
Pros:- WD brand name- 80-85 MB/s data read/write. - No Seagate Firmware issues. Of course WD Green drives have issues too. - Fresh install of WinXP and no issues- Works well. Comment:
Purchased this drive for a fresh istall of WinXP. The compy is not a super high end machine so didnt need anything too expensive. I didnt realize that the read/write was only 80-85MB/s. I got a Black WD as well, lets see how fast taht is. But cannot complain. I remember in the late 90's when a 3GB drive was $320, and that was from a distributer. |

Cons:None
Pros:Fast - Cool - Quiet Comment:
Another great drive by WD. Fast, cool, quiet and big -- what else could you ask for? Oh, wait a minute... Price? Yeah, that would be nice, but well... if that's your concern, just do as I did, wait until the "next best thing" (1TB drives) comes out, and go for the reduced price. Not all of us need to have the very very last cool thing right away. |

Pros:2 plattersFast Comment:
Lots of storage space and extremely fast! It's now my OS drive and man this thing is peppy. 2 platters versus 3 which is always nice as it keeps down the noise and the temperature. |

Pros:Quiet, fast. Comment:
Was (is?) the best-bang on the market when I bought it. Still dead quiet, but only because I mounted mine to the bottom of the case over some styrofoam and held down with electrical tape. Doesn't get too hot. Vibrated the case really bad before that. |

All in all this drive is great for its price you can basicly use it for anything, storage, gaming, you name it. I would buy a Western Digital brand again, they are great and last a long time without having to worry about it. |

Cons:- A 3 year warranty instead of 5 year
Pros:- Keeps cool- Quiet- Reliable Comment:
This is a nice and quiet drive. I have purchased other WD hard drives before and have never had a problem with them.Would be nice if they came with a 3 year warranty, but this is a minor point. |
Very good Hard Drive. This is my first drive for my Dell XPS 200. What a difference from 80 GB Seagate to 640 GB WD, thats a difference of 560 Gigabytes. Good drive for the money and it's fast and quiet. The Seagate I had was loud, rattling sound like an old HD. So far so good.
