Comment:
Two platters, reliable, cool, fast and quiet drive. What more can you ask? I find myself buying more Western Digital drives than ever before. This is not my first WD6400AAKS drive.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Cons:Could be even faster maybe?

Pros:Silent, runs cool and great speed.
Comment:
Lots of storage for the price. It was plug and play. It maxes out Vista rating with 5.9. At this price/performance I cannot see getting any other drive, unless you need significantly more space. Raid 0 would be an interesting 'solution'.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Cons:Only 3 year warranty.

Pros:Great performance.2 platter design.Quiet.
Comment:
Great performance drive with dense 2 platter design. Reduces heat and provides greater throughput. It's on sale again this week, this would be the drive to get of all the 640gb drives out there. It's currently very attractively priced and is known to be one of the best performers in the 640gb category. Warranty isn't 5 year like seagate, but with WD I don't think you have much to worry about anyways as their support is generally very good. Would recommend to anyone looking for a 640gb.

The 640GB WD Digital Caviar is a great drive all around, with great performance, minimal sound, and of course WD's manufacturing quality. This review was modfied by poster @ 12-04-08 02:07 AM

Cons:None.

Pros:Cool, quiet and fast.
Comment:
These drives are quiet, almost no vibration and fast. Bought 2 in June 2008 and still very satisfied. They are installed in an Antec Solo case, using the standard silicone washers. 93 MB/s average transfer rate, 12.2 ms random access time, according to HDTach 3040.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Cons:-None

Pros:-Nice GB/$-AAM-Quiet load-Silent idle
Comment:
Bought one of these drives to replace one of my aging Seagates 7200.10 320GB. This drive is so quiet with AAM at 254. I can hear it only a little over my fans when it is loading lots of data from the drive, but my fans are running at 700RPM anyway.Great drive for the price.

My old hard drive was running out of space and i need another HDD to do some multi-boot. I also record tv shows using a tv tuner. this hard drive provided me enough space to do both with ease. reformatting my comp was a breeze because it accomadates all my files easily.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Cons:- Cannot monitor temperature

Pros:- Fast- Quiet- Large storage- Inexpensive
Comment:
Very inexpensive hard drive when on sale. It is fast and, so far, is reliable as expected from a modern Western Digital hard drive. The only problem I have with it so far is that I cannot monitor its temperature. I am currently using it on a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H and I can't recall whether it was working or not on day one. Might be an incompatibility. Overall, a good buy.

These are still the best drives on the market. With only two platters the chance of it going bad are greatly reduced. There have hawever been some issues with slower than normal seek times. This has been identified and corrected here http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=565932 if link does not work the search ''WD6400AAKS poor seek time'' this will show you how to fix the problem.

I've been using WD drives for the past 10+ years or so, and have never had an issue with any of their drives I've owned. Purchased this drive and the 500GB version to replace the ATA100 drives and start using SATA on my mainboard, and am very happy with the performance so far. Works well for daily tasks and audio recording work.

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Comment:
Very low temperatures. I initially bought one of these and I was impressed enough to buy a second one. Both have been reliable thus far (I'll be sure to update if something happens) and the $-per-GB is the best price around, beating all of the 500GB and 750GB in that department.

Great Hard Drive!!! Cheap, Reliable, and fast. Has 2 320gb platters, so less stress on the head and motor and more performance to the computer. If you are going to buy another drive, get this one instead, and for 99.99, it's the best $$ per GB around.
