Worst external HD ever
Comment:
We bought a few of these to backup our computers in the office. They are poorly made and so far one has completely died - data was not retrievable. They are also formatted FAT32 which has a 4 gig file size limit. They need to be reformatted if you have larger files than this. |

Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:
Case made out of recycled materials since its considered as an eco product
Pros: Great eco hard drive, very silent, less heat Comment:
I bought this to replace my long last dying hard drive which is 80GB and this HD is very cool considering the LED light. I had this for a while, great product. Will get one next time when it's on sale. |

Never again!
Comment:
It actually worked fine for about 2 weeks. It is now useless and I have lost all of my data. I took it apart and it had a 1TB western Digital green drive in it. Green Drives are the absolute worst. They should not even be making them. The enery savings are so minimul that is is a STUPID idea anyway! |

Low quality
Comment:
I was unable to plug in either the power cord or the USB cable, the harddrive was not fitted in the enclosure properly. The power button was not working. Very cheap feel. Annoying interface trying to install software on your computer as soon as you plug the drive in. Returning immediatelly. |

Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:Case is flimsy
Pros:Affordable, Large, Fast, Quiet, Stylish, Comment:
Good looking case, quiet running, and transfers are faster than expected. When I first connected the drive it disconnected in about 15 seconds & after I repeated several times it finally stayed connected. The case is a bit flimsy & feels like it would be easy to bust accidently. Its now connected to my PVR & has given me reliable performance thus far. The price is its best feature. |

Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:- FAT32 by default: WTF?
Pros:- Great Look- Relatively silent- Good price Comment:
Excellent product for what it is: an add-on hard disk to expand storage for archives / backups. My biggest complaint is that the disk is pre-formatted with the FAT32 filesystem. I reformatted the disk with NTFS to improve disk space efficiency and to take advantage of the advanced features of NTFS. The drive looks really good though. |
For about $100, I am pretty happy with the product. There hasn't been any corrupt files or anything. The fact that its WD also brings a better sense of security that the product should be "better".I bought this hoping that, even at around $100, WD will provide the reliability I need to safely store my date.If I were to purchase another external, I would be looking at this line or product again.
