High capacityRuns coolNewEgg supplies were brief on this, so on RMA I got complete refund and bought a single way superior packed at a different location Appears to run a small slow, so you may well want to contemplate anything more quickly if you are not going to use this for archival or much less demanding applications.Nonetheless fairly high-priced for $/GB and I don't fully grasp why its price went up by additional than from when I saw it last on NewEggEggs gone are for NewEgg, not Western Digital (Maybe drive manufacturers need to audit the packaging method at NewEgg to push for improvement right here, I frankly think this is the purpose there's about 20% DOA evaluation complaints on any brand HDD you look at on NewEgg) The massive complaint I have and I hope someone on NewEgg would read is about how poor tricky drives are packaged when shipped.Challenging drives are wrapped in a single layer of substantial bubble wrap but put at the bottom of a box that is then filled with styrofoam peanuts. I purchased two of these and the bubble wraps on one of them had gone entirely flat on one side when I opened the box. I guess that was the 1 that died inside few hours had to RMA.I had paid for two day shipping through FedEx but NewEgg decided not to mark delivery on Saturday so didn't get them till Monday, why did I have to waste funds? (and it took two days for NewEgg to process the order.)RMA approach sucks in my thoughts: I had to spend for the shipping price for sending the item back (why?) It had to go via UPS ground and then it took days for the RMA to be processed and in the end I got refund! For comparison: LG sent me a replacement drive in a couple of days with a box to return mine and paid for all shipping each way |

Excellent reliability for a SATA file storage solution, wonderful price point, superb warranty. none thus far Make sure to verify your controller's compatibility matrix to make certain that it is supported. I have implemented over 32 of these drives in conjunction with the Areca 1680-ML controller, with proper controller firmware and drivers, with zero difficulties hence far, utilizing RAID1 mirrored volumes and a tertiary backup volume for 3 non-proprietary copies of the data. Also please note for windows 2003 and other earlier operating systems and RAID arrays, make sure the partition is manually offset by 1024 for right volume alignment and optimal overall performance. For far more details google 'windows 2003 partition offset' |

General it isn't a bad drive. For the size it's fairly rapid, although I wouldn't absolutely get in touch with it "speedy". I basically bought it so I could have a single drive to shop anything. Which nicely it does. :) None truly, I haven't had any concerns personally. To "CLINT" or nonetheless you spelled it when you say it's 1.8gb in NTFS. It's since most file systems measure one byte = 1024 bits. Even though most drives are labelled 1 byte = 1000 bits. So, when one gets up to large numbers like hundreds of gigabytes or a terrabyte or two, the two measuring standards add up. Or to place it yet another way, NTFS isn't ignoring 200 GB on your drive, it's just reporting back how it measured the drive as compared to how the tough drive firms measure the drive space. An individual appropriate me if I am wrong but this is how I've understood this to be with quite significantly any tough drive for a while, 1 expects what Windows or any other OS claims to be the total drive space to be less then what is on the HD label due to this. |

This drive purports to be an "Enterprise Level" reliable drive Very first 1 arrived, damaged at WD factory, not newegg, as the packaging from the manufacturer was undamaged, but the energy pins and situation had been broken, apparantly dropped at the WD factory...wonderful QC! The replacement drive was opened and inserted in a RAID array, and as it spun up, it rattled, whirred, and DIED!!! So significantly for ENTERPRISE LEVEL! Save your money and stick with ABWD...Anyone But Western Digital....and forget the Enterprise hype...it's just that...hype. |

Huge quantity of storage space.Wonderful drive for compressed video and other big file sizes...In reality, it was made for it. Value is a bit high but nonetheless worth it. Took at least 5 hrs to format this drive. Not set up in a RAID configuration.Functions out to 1.8 TB with NTFS |

Size Very inconsistent drives. Drives in RAID configuration degrade and show reading errors on a typical basis. Not reputable for what RAID is intended (redundancy and reliability). I consider the 64MB cache creates low lever read/write errors with controllers due to caching and/or power management. They are almost certainly ahead of their time. Hardware vendors require to catch up. Wait on these for a whilst. |

Massive storrage space. Soft high pitched whine when disk is accessing. Not the fastest drives, but thats not why I got them anyway. Have two drives in raid 1 configuration. No issues with install or in use. Do notice a extremely soft high pitched whine with information access and situation door off, but not bothersom adequate to return. Type of regarding but it is consistent with data access and drives are operating properly so I'll wait and see. |

Lower power use. lower performance. It is not completely clear from the description but one particular of the major differences among this and the RE4 is that this is 5400 RPM and the RE4 is 7200 RPM. For most applications this may not matter but the distinction in seek time might be consequential to some. |

Large, lowered energy consumption, less heat. Yikes, I don't like to do this but: I have an Areca 5020 (its already known to have difficulties with these drives.) I'm running the Newest beta firmware 1.47 on the Areca raid, and I just upgraded the firmware on the drives themselves (someone posted the link for this in yet another comments.)I already set 1 of these drives back, given that it kept falling out of the array, right now, a second drive developed troubles, "READ ERRORS." The intelligent attribute was getting affected too.I ASSUMING that the firmwares are not at fault at this point, and that there was a poor batch of drives somewhere... I hope. I'll note: Western Digital's cross shipment policy is the Greatest in the market. Its the only cause I obtain WD drives... |

The cost is fine for the quantity of storage you get. WD stands behind there item. Slow to access from sleep. Makes some head noise when working. I have four of these running RAID five. Takes about 30seconds for all of the drives to start off going from stand nonetheless but, I use it for backup. Fantastic once they are running. Have not had one dilemma with these drives and it has been more than a year. |

High capacity I have 24 of them in RAIDs with 3ware/AMCC 9650 controllers and they seem to fail at a significantly greater rate than what I am applied to with other manufacturers. So far I had to replace about 6 drives within less than a year due to numerous sorts of failures. I possibly would not use WD again for the subsequent RAID I am building. |

The Best Bang for the Buck
Comment:
This drive is smoking fast and solid. I loaded it as my system drive and MAC Snow Leopard loads in 8 seconds. A 64mb buffer! I am a video guy and this is my dream come true. I actually wanted a SSD drive but they are still WAY too expensive relative to value per GB. This drive has the best reviews for speed and reliability, you get what you pay for. If you want the FAST drive this is the answer. The drive seems twice as fast as my 1TB Seagates with 32mb buffers. Save up your money and get this drive, you'll be glad you did. |
