Western Digital Red 2TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Disk Drive HDD
Cons:None so far
Pros:Silent, Fast, Good amount of storage space Comment:
I got both on sale (free with NAS unit + an additional 1 for $110). Can't complain about that. Fast transfer rates using single volume setup with my NAS. Read/write speed avg around 60-90MB/s. Silent as well. Well have to see how durable and reliable it really is as time goes by.No complaints so far. Quite impressed with it. |

Cons:Slower than the black drives and cost a bit more than the green drives
Pros:Runs cool, great for NAS Comment:
Great for people who would like to build a NAS but cannot afford enterprise speed drives. Bought 4 drives for my NAS and one had bad sectors within a month. Had to RMA the drive with WD. |

Cons:none
Pros:Good price for this drive. Comment:
Bought a couple of these drives and installed them on my Netgear Ready Nas server to replace my WD green 1 terrabyte drives. Can't tell if their is any difference in performance but wanted to try because of what WD says about the drives on their website. |

Western Digital Red 2TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Disk Drive HDD
Cons:none
Pros:Quiet, reliable Comment:
Had it in a NAS together with a Hitachi - so quiet I never hear it, while the Hitachi can definitely be heard. Seems reliable and everything, but time will tell. Had a 500GB Seagate before - I threw it in the garbage after 6 months, luckily I was able to get (most of) the info out. |

Cons:I can remember when hard drives were cheaper
Pros:Perfect for home NAS useLow power consumptionFast enoughNearly silent Comment:
I bought 5 of these to equip a Synology 1512+ and have had no problems. I suppose this is the best option for home NAS use as it has reasonable speed and reliability. |

Western Digital Red 2TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Disk Drive HDD
Cons:Performance, Compatability
Pros:Size, Price Comment:
I purchased 4 of these drives to replace 4, 1TB Deskstar's in my Sans Digital 8-Bay Tower, connected to a RocketRaid 622. (There are 4, 2TB Samsung's in the tower working fine). I could not get the drives to work reliability in either a RAID 5 or Raid 0 Array. Small data transfers would be OK. But as soon as you got to the 30+GB mark, the drives would stop, and the array would reset. Eventually the drives would stop responding all together and the 622 started giving errors. After doing some research, I found that disabling the write cache on the disk would provide the stability I require. Unfortunately the performance hit was significant at times file transfers dropped below 15MB/s. It would take weeks for me to copy my data to the Array. I also tried a JBOD, and the performance was also poor. Since the WD diagnostics do not show any errors, its unlikely that NCIX will approve an RMA.Maybe in the future I will look at a better HBA. But for now I will return the 1TB Hitachi drives to the tower, and possibly use the WD RED's as single drives. |

Western Digital Red 2TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Disk Drive HDD
Cons:kinda loud
Pros:lots of roomWDnice cache Comment:
using 2 of these for storage, not in raid mode just plain IDE, does the job for storing videos and stuff, still have lots of room left, it would take some time to fulfil them. this drive is kinda loud though but that's expected from a platter drive |

Western Digital Red 2TB SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5IN Internal Hard Disk Drive HDD
Cons:Not for a desktopNot a proven track record
Pros:QuietRuns cooler than WD BlacksPrice was rightFits the job! Comment:
I replaced 4 x 1TB WD blacks with 4 of these 2TB Reds in a Synology 412+ NAS. Temps dropped from 39-40 degrees to 29-30 degrees which is pretty substantial! Doubles my space, and I can hear the drives spinning anymore. I hadn't run speed tests as I run on a 100MB network, and figured that would be the bottle neck over the drive speeds.Since they are pretty new drive, and not as proven as the WD Blacks, I'll have to wait to see if they live up to expectations. |
Simply put, it does exactly what it has to do, store data. It does it very well. Runs flawlessly in my DNS-320 with little to no noise, you really have to get up close to hear anything. Temps stay cool in the 37-41 degree range with minimal fan cooling. Will definitely buy again when I need more space
