A decent quantity of space, not huge; but that's what externals are for. Silent. It's not an SSD? Purchased this from Newegg (like all of my hard drives.) Shipping on this item was terrible, although that's not Newegg's fault. It arrived pretty much a week late.

Pros? The drive is substantial, affordable, and... effectively, that's about it. I seriously never write evaluations about goods, but I am so put off by this drive, I couldn't aid myself. As the title suggests, this drive is trash. I initially purchased it as a replacement drive for my MacBook Pro's 250GB stock drive. It set up fine, I did a clean set up of OSX, and got it up and running, and right off the bat, it would consistently stall from near-instant spin-downs. Actually, this factor spins down in 2-3 seconds, so unless your are writing or reading a constant stream of information, you will get Very frequent method stalls each time you click on a file or folder even though the drive spins back up. This also means the drive's life is going to be lowered drastically, from all the load cycles.I spent hours and hours reading forums and trying various fixes and hacks to get this issue to function ideal, but nothing at all would do it. It created my laptop or computer unusable. In the finish, I figured I would just put the stock drive back in my MacBook Pro and use this in an external case for Time Machine backups.Lo and behold, it can't even do that. Even trying to browse its final as an external drive, it stalls just about every couple of seconds, and it dropped its connection immediately after about 20GB of Time Machine backup, so it was unable to finish.Do you investigation on this. There are lots and lots of forums posts about this this specific drive in regards to making use of it in Apple notebooks. As the title suggests, is absolute trash. Look elsewhere for your tough drive purchasing.

Big capacity. Discernibly slower than WD 500GB 5400RPM. Regrettably, decided to take away this HD after re-installing Mac OSX and all my apps. The drive was noticeably slower... Finder navigation; Lightroom perform... I was in fact shocked at how slow it seemed in comparison.

-significant capacity (perhaps a lot more than i even needed)-quiet-it operates(?) -i get those beachball cursors almost everytime i switch to a new window, click on an app or even just altering program preferences. even when im typing i get these lag spikes. it happens so regularly, i dont know if i just got a undesirable drive or what, but its been a small more than a month because i purchased this so i dont know if they'll let me return it. I had initially been on the fence in between this drive and a 7200rpm. Immediately after reading about concerns concerning the Intelligent sensor and improved vibration noise with the faster drives, i opted to get a bigger capacity 5400rpm assuming that speed wouldn't be such a huge situation. Nevertheless, i was unaware that the 5400rpm 750gb drive would be this substantially slower than the stock 250gb that came with my mbp13. It's not exactly slower genuinely but it just requires a couple seconds to do different basic tasks when commonly it really should just be click and go. If I could go back and do it again, I'd get the 7200rpm. Undoubtedly beats the 30 lag spikes I just skilled though writing this overview.

Performs as advertised drive goes to sleep a lot in OSX - causing a lot of pauses exactly where you wouldn't count on, as the drive spins up. I mean A LOT. Likely will have to disable a lot of the sleep stuff. In my prior entry I talked about that the drive didn't fit snug. My undesirable. The stock drive (hitachi 250GB) came with screws set in the side, which have to be removed and put onto the new drive. I missed that the 1st time, but observed it later. To get the screws out you will will need a T6 torx screwdriver.

Largest 9.5mm laptop drive to date, very smooth installation and setup. Installed perfectly into my aging white MacBook (Intel Core Duo model) that won't accept the thicker drives. Windows XP users need to have to download a totally free utility from WD due to the Advanced Format.Note that I didn't have this situation but wanted to mention it just in situation you program to use this drive with Windows XP. I purchased 2 of these drives, 1 for inside my laptop and a single for the external backup drive I use. I am operating dual boot Snow Leopard and Windows 7 devoid of a hitch and have lots of space for each; possibly I'll add a third partition and play with Linux or FreeBSD. NewEgg and UPS delivered to my door in 2 days flat - couldn't ask for more!

High storage capacity.... if.... ...it essentially worked. My earlier drive in my MacBook Pro started out clicking and grinding (also a WD drive), so I ordered this one. Installed it myself (as I do all my hard drives) and the machine wouldn't recognize it. Installed it in another MacBook, which wouldn't recognize it either.Consider I'll be providing Western Digital a break for a though, as I don't seem to be getting a incredibly fantastic track record with them. Ordered the Samsung 640GB 7200RPM SpinPoint as a replacement.

Functions as advertised. I installed it into a newer 13 MBP Ɨ.1) and identified that it wasn't quote as wide as the drive it replaced (the 250 GB Hitachi that came with my MBP. When the intall was performed, the drive had space to clunk about inside (NB: I am a paid IT pro, so don't believe for a second that I just missed one thing right here). The drive is supposed to be held in place by friction, but it just wasn't wide enough for the 13 MBP. I ended up placing in a high density rubber shim, which held it snug, but I doubt also quite a few folks have such points on hand. Possibly my MBP 13 is extraordinary in this way, I don't know - I mention it only in case someone else is seeking to upgrade their 13 MBP so that they will be ready in the even that the drive doesn't fit snug. So far it seems a small slower than the drive it replaced, at least on my OS X partition - I am running a Windows partition by means of bootcamp, and that seems fine. I am conscious that this drive uses Advanced Format ƔK sector size) and so forth, so I have that all set correctly - possibly it is just my imagination, but I am seeing some HDD lag that ought not to be there.

I've been waiting for a standard size tricky drive over 640GB for months now, and as soon as heard about this and saw it available I purchased it. Installed in my laptop without having a hitch, and certainly an improvement over my 500GB just before. Completely no issues and as folks have said it appears to be more rapidly than the other difficult drive. Also at 110 it is a fantastic deal for anybody needing additional storage in a portable package. It didn't come out earlier.

Very good price tag for a lot of space. Slower speed than I'd like 5400 rpm could be too slow for gaming. I'm gonna give it yet another week then make a decision if the tiny lag spikes are also significantly for me.

This drive replaced my 250GB Hitachi drive that came with my Dell XPS M1530 laptop. I'm pleased with the speed and size.As constantly, Newegg ships really fast! Came next day in mail! What I CAN'T STAND is that it clicks just as bad or worse than the older drive (not the click of death. Was HDD Parking feature). It does it regardless of which OS I use. I use Win7Pro 64bit and Ubuntu Linux 9.ten. With my older drive in Ubuntu I had a script which ran "hdparm -B 255 /dev/sda" to disable Advanced Energy Management (apm) when plugged in and to enable it with -B choice of 128 when on battery and it was relatively silent. The hdparm trick doesn't operate anymore for the new drive and its truly annoying. I have good hearing and when on machine and no music playing it can drive me crazy (especially following poor workday). Crazy sufficient to want to destroy HDD with hammer... Well, I don't feel returning the drive for an additional will resolve the problem as the clicking is a function to keep the drive from getting the actuator arm touching the platters.I am going to see if I can add some kind of noise dampener material about the drive to resolve the problem. Material of course has to let drive breath.

Cons:A 2.5in 5400 rpm drive will never be very fast, but it's not an issue for me.

Pros:Good size and good price for the time, silent
Comment:
I'm running a pretty fast and silent computer, 2 x 240GB SSD and a 120GB SSD for games. Silence is the most important of the two. With SSD, it is now possible to have a fast computer also. The hard drive is only used for backup, all the files on my SSD have a copy on my hard drive. This one is replacing a scorpio 320GB that has been flawless for more than 2 years. You understand now why it doesn't need to be fast, it is used during the night once a week.I was afraid that a bigger hard drive could be noisier but that is not the case. So I'm totally satisfied with my purchase.

Cons:Very warm during operation, needed head parking adjustment

Pros:Good performance, quiet, low vibrations
Comment:
Bought this drive to place into a MacAlly 2.5" FW800 enclosure to be used as a Time Machine Backup drive, and found it worked flawlessly, and gave excellent performance during the backup, but it did need to have an adjustment made using the WDIDLE6 utility to prevent the heads from parking every 8 seconds. My drive had a manufacture date of November 2011, and was still running firmware 1.01.01A.Once the adjustment was made, and power management set to maximum via CrystalDiskInfo, the drive performed great! Did not observe the "clicking" sound reported by previous reviewers, but that was most likely the heads parking.Be aware though, the WDIDLE6 adjustment is MANDITORY if you want this drive to last more than a year.
