another great HDD from WD, as expected. Drive is silent, and also uses less energy than a caviar black. Works great with my DNS-323

Cons:none

Pros:lower power consumption
Comment:
these are designed for a less demanding read and write environment and they do perform well as such. I have had one for over 4 months now and it's served me well. Low heat generation without much noise. For storage, what more can you ask for. I'm giving it 5 stars because it fits this market segment (low power storage as opposed to high performance) very well.

Great drive for the price paid. Easy to setup and use. Fast data transfer rates, great for media applications. Would purchase this drive again without hesitation. Better than the seagates drives I have installed beside it. Very reliable.

WD HDD are very reliable and does the job that I need. I'm an HTPC enthusiast and I need a lot of storage to store my precious data. The HDD is quiet enough on my desk as a backup drive.I would recommend this HDD to anyone since this is my second WD Green drive and I'm waiting for another great deal to buy another one.Go NCIX!

Cons:None

Pros:Runs quiet and cool
Comment:
I used one of these in a DLink DNS-323 NAS box, and am satisfied with its performance.Transfers max out my admittedly slow 100Mbps network at 11MB/s. The unit remains quiet and cool running, make it ideal for backups and storage.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Not 7200rmp? Not really a disadvantage when used purely for storage.

Pros:QuietRuns coolGreat price on sale (got it for $79)
Comment:
Bought this drive to store photo projects, video, etc, and it does the job. This drive runs cool in an external case, and is very quiet, which I wasn't expecting. The only issue might be speed, but it is just fine for storage purposes. I don't think I'd want to use this as an OS disk though. Great price when on sale.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:3 platters

Pros:The usual. Cool, Quiet, Pretty fast
Comment:
Bought June 25th. Drive manufactured May 27, 2009.WD10EADS-65L5B1 so I guess it was a 3 platter drive. :(I hit a good 60 MB/s over the GBLan to it on a regular basis. If nothing is going on the lan/either box then I've hit an average of 85MB/s on a 4 gig transfer. Pretty nice if you ask me.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:WD uses the same model number regardless of the number of platters

Pros:Very quiet drive, low power consumption
Comment:
The drive works as intended: it has a low power consumption, it is quiet, but it is not very fast. Of course, it's not intended to be fast. The WD10EADS is available in 2-platter and 3-platter (older) versions, and both have the same WD10EADS number. The only way to differentiate between the versions is to examine the "submodel" number that follows WD10EADS. However, it's not possible to do this unless you can see the drive before buying it.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:- Disabled AAM by default- Vibrates a bit more than my WD Blue 640GB; should work well if suspended or installed with silicone standoffs

Pros:+ Very affordable+ Somewhat quiet operation+ Fast
Comment:
It performed quite well and fast compared to my WD Blue 640GB. I feel that it is somewhat louder in terms of seek noise and vibration than my other hard drive (AAM enabled on both), but this may because it was screwed into the computer case without any vibration dampening. Very affordable, and a good buy. It comes with AAM disabled by default, however. To enable, use HDDScan. Performance decrease was not noticeable, but noise levels were much better. Cons:not as fast as other dirve

Pros:large cheap

I got it onsale for 80 bucks, it is large I don't even have that much files to put in it. But I run hd-tune, it is not so fast compare to other drive, because they are not designed for speed.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Not a weakness with the drive - but an old Silicon Image 3112 controller wouldn't deal with it. A SI3114 in a Syba card does fine.

Pros:It's working well, to now.Great price. So far seems to run quieter and cooler than my Seagates.
Comment:
As with all drives - a person has to see how well they work over the years to give a proper opinion. But so far, so fine and the price was great for a large drive with a good warranty.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:none, really

Pros:silent, cool, low power consumption
Comment:
I needed storage for my AVCHD videos (running at about 50 GB/month). even to access them when editing this drive is good enough. not as fast as the 7200RPM ones, but not noticeably slower. I don't care if the computer is slower while rendering - I'm not sitting and waiting for it. I do care about my electricity expenses and the environment. This drive is best for me and highly recommended.

Pros:- 1Terabyte of space- Energy efficient- 32mb of cache
Comment:
I had this drive for a couple of days now and it is smooth. The 32mb of cache helps to load programs a bit faster than my older drive and the energy efficiency is a nice touch to save power when not in use.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Grinds to a halt when reading and writing at the same time

Pros:It's 1TB of storage for less than $100
Comment:
I replaced an aging 120GB drive that I had in my WHS box with this one to add more storage (3TB total now and still need more). Right off the bat, the biggest advantage is the gain in storage. But be prepared for slow-downs if you read and write at the same time. I started a copy to this drive from one PC and a copy from this drive to my media center PC and I noticed that the "copy to" time went from 6 minutes to off the chart. Likewise, the "copy from" time did the same thing, then eventually failed.Other users of this drive have expressed the same situation, but for me, the chances of reading to and writing from this drive at the same time are highly unlikely. I'm planning on building a new WHS box in the near future and if these are still around, I will definitely be buying 4 of these to add to the box, unless something better comes in.

Cons:May be a little slow

Pros:quietuses less powertemp at 44 C when running stress test on drive
Comment:
Very nice and quiet drive. Easy to install and picked up right away with vista. I got one that was manufactured on June 13 (or 18). While transferring about 35 G of date from another local internal drive to this W10EADS, I got speeds of around 25-30 MBps and needed about 30 minutes. Dont know if its normal . Overall I am happy with the drive.

Hi ! I was very happy to have so much space in my pc ,but i was dumb enough to put all the files in this hard drive.Result ? After 30 hour of work when i open the pc i have this : You need to reformat the drive D:.... Now this marvel was showing a capacity of 32 mb .. I have lost 700gb of data ,And 8 year of memory within...picture, vidéo , etc... For those who this drive work its ok ,but for me the only thing that this drive have done its to lost my data ...forever ,first drive who died on me ,my old Maxtor 40gb 7200 rpm purchase brand new in 2001 for 225$ work for almost 24/24 7/7 for now about 8 year ! Shame on Wd to make this drive.

Cons:Not that much lower5400RPM can hurt

Pros:Dead quiet, better than Seagate G11Low power consumptionExtremely cool, better than Seagate G11
Comment:
The green isn't slow unless you try doing 2 things at once. I noticed significant slowness writing to the drive when reading at the same time. This is the 5400RPM-ness.Good for mirrored raid NAS or 24/7 setups, but get the Black if you're shutting down every night. I would if I could do it again. :) This review was modfied by poster @ 07-09-09 06:00 PM
