Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:none

Pros:-runs very cool-quiet-faster than my 2.5" scorpio black
Comment:
Excellent drive for a backup! No read/write problems, and this scores much better than my 320GB scorpio black... but access times are very long (20 ms)

Cons:- slow- price only a bit lower than blue and black

Pros:- power saver
Comment:
Dead on arrival. After giving it a second thought, I decided to get a refund instead of a replacement. I ended up getting two Caviar Blacks with $10 more apiece.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Slow ?

Pros:QuietGreenRuns cool
Comment:
Some people mentionned this drive was slow. It may be true, but I have yet to notice it. Its very possible the Caviar Black is faster, but I find that there is no real life situation where I found myself waiting for my HDD, its plenty fast for me. It would definitively be a do again move. Unfortunatly I couldn't only buy one of these as it was on special, but its recommended. Also, can't pass the fact that its green. It does not impact negatively my usage of the drive, it saves a little bit of energy. It may not be much, but if we all saved a little, together we'd save big.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:A bit overpriced, unless you get it on sale.Otherwise, none, at least for use in a basic NAS or other low performance application.

Pros:Reliable brand.Quiet.Sensible, "green" choice for network or USB enclosures where ultimate drive performance is not relevant.
Comment:
I am another convert from Seagate who has become disillusioned by recent quality and reliability issues with hard drives from that brand. I was going for the Black version of the Western Digital drive to try to get a bit more performance out of my old computer, but by the time I reached checkout it had sold out at the fantastic "Surprise Special" price (within a couple of hours of going on sale) and I didn't want it badly enough to pay almost 50% more. I decided on a different tack and, for an even lower sale price of $90, I bought the Green version for my D-Link DNS-323. There it replaces a notorious Seagate 7200.11 1TB drive which will replace the free-space-challenged 320GB primary drive in my Windows box, where at least I will be able to apply Seagate's firmware fix and gain some confidence that it will not at some point abruptly become a paperweight with all my data irretrievably locked inside. In the NAS, speed is limited by my network and the DNS-323 itself so I expected to benefit from the efficiency of the WD Green drive without a noticeable cost in performance. In fact that is my experience, there is no perceptible change in the operation of the NAS with the new drive except ... it is distinctly quieter. There had been an occasional low but irritating whine from the NAS with the Seagate but with the WD Green it is virtually inaudible beneath the whir from the adjacent computer case. Some have complained about excessive clicking noise but even that is unusually subdued in my sample. I'm a bit disappointed that the NAS case does not seem any cooler running this drive, though perhaps that is a matter of the fan running slower in response to lower heat output and that might partly explain the very quiet operation. I can't get a reading on drive temperature in the DNS-323 so I will have to accept the assurances of others that this drive is highly efficient. Anyway, when I need more capacity in the NAS I probably will double up with another one of these.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:None so far

Pros:Quiet & fast enough
Comment:
Well I don't know what all this talk about the "Green" drives being slower (it's rated 5400 ~ 7600 RPM), of course, I'm not a speed measuring "guru", but for me, this drive smokes. I timed it versus my three OTHER drives I have, and it ranked 2nd in overall speed performance (providing I did the speed test correctly). I believe the results, as my IDE placed last for speed. The other 2 drives are SATA. This Green drive replaced my IDE (which was my boot drive), and it being the 2nd fastest drive, sure boosted my boot time & general response time. I am so far satisfied with this drives performance, OH...as well, it's very quiet. NO noise that I can hear.

Cons:Slower but that's not a concern for me.

Pros:Works great. Can't hear it at all.
Comment:
Bought this hard drive since I needed some more space and I had to be able to transfer files between some home computers. Put it in a Vantec CX external and I couldn't be happier.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Speed could be better

Pros:Energy efficientCapacitySpeed better then expected
Comment:
Purchased on a weekly special for about 90$, couldn't get any better for the price. Speed is better then expected (I don't use it for speed anyway), but could still be better.Would recommand as a storage HD but not as a main HD !

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:None

Pros:CoolSilentPower Efficient1TB
Comment:
It being slower than a regular hard drive is not a weakness, if you want something to use as a primary then get a hitachi 1tb. These are supposed to be efficient, not fast. I own 4 of these, and all I do is use them to store and stream blu-rays around the house. It's kinda cool to hear them all spin up one after the other. The reason I got these is because they were dirt cheap and very cool, I have a Caviar Black which is quite warm and has my OS on it. My case is already hot enough so I didn't want even more heat.Gotta love Western Digital and their awesome warranties and hard drives.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:- Considered very expensive compared to the competition when NOT on sale- Operating Temperature is the same as my Caviar Black drives. I expected it to be somewhat cooler.

Pros:- Speed; 80MB/sec average transfer rate. Might not be as fast as the Caviar Black 640GB, but it is definitely not far behind from the Caviar Black 1000GB- Quiet - Green (environmentally)- Excellent value (only when on sale)- Reliability
Comment:
A fairly fast drive to my surprise. It can be used as the primary hard drive on a business computer. Reliability is the main reason I purchased this over the Seagate drive.

Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:N/A

Pros:32mb vs 16mb cache
Comment:
Not much to say about this drive other than it has worked perfectly for me thus far. I have installed Vista Prem. 64 and it seems to load fine. It is a fairly quiet drive, which is nice and stays cool/average temperature compared to other HDDs I've used.
