Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons: possibly slow as a main HDD

Pros: quiet when reading, seekingruns cool
Comment:
This is a good HDD. I use it in a HDD enclosure. It runs noticeably quiet and cool compared to 7200.12 1TB and Samsung F1 I have been using. Since this is a power-saving HDD, I think it's slower in general. But as an external HDD, the transfer speed is limited by USD 2.0 speed anyways. I don't notice a speed decrease.

Cons: Expensive at $170 each...but prices always come down.

Pros: Low power, low heat, good performance
Comment:
I use two in a RAID configuration in my D-Link DNS-323 NAS without issues. They generate very little heat - so little the NAS almost never needs to turn on its fan. I understand they're low on power too, which is a great bonus. Good drives for backups and archival.

Pros: Price, silent running, brand

Got this for use in a client's esata enclosure for backup purposes and media storage. It seems to fit that job rather well and so far no problems.

At last an affordable 2TB drive for long term storage that is economical enough to buy lots of. This is not my 1st caviar green drive. It's my 7th (with 1TBs and 1.5TBs). I am so happy witht hem that I would recomend them to anyone.

Pros:solid contructionGreat drivecheap for its capacity
Comment:
I have a western digital black drive and a green drive. In real world situation I cannot tell them apart. Both are speedy and responsive but the green drives have bigger capacities at lower prices and are silent. My next HDD will probably be the 2tb variant of this drive.

Cons:Slower speeds

Pros:QuietCheap (at least when on sale)Huge storage amount
Comment:
Just picked this up on sale for about $130 on the weekend sale. Ran the WD Adv Format utility. It's really quiet but do notice the slower speed when transferring my huge files from another drive. However, it's my secondary backup drive so no biggie.Seems to work fine and I like the green aspect. Having 2TB of storage is awesome!

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:slow spindle speed, small cache

Pros:low power / noise / heat, massive amount of storage, price per GB is attractive when on special
Comment:
Massive amount of storage for $150 (on special) makes this WD Green an easy choice. Being a Green model, the spindle speed and cache are slower than the Black models, but for storage use (eg, NAS, media extenders), streaming media, and less intensive usage it works flawlessly. For a main boot drive with more activity, you're probably better off with a 7200rpm/64mb model as with the Black models.Relatively silent in my NAS (compared to a Seagate 1.5 in the other bay), and really low current draw / heat. I'm happy with it so far.

Cons:not the fastest around, slow spin up time

Pros:quick enough, quiet, fast enough, cheap, lots of space
Comment:
Below $150 these drives are a steal. Love the 2tb of space. the drive isn't lightening fast but quick enough to play media off of. Great backup hard drive.

Cons:Automatic parking of drive head.

Pros:Size Low TempsQuite
Comment:
This is a great hard drive for backing up your data. More room than you most likely need but leaves room for expansion. I've had one of these drives for a about 3 months, used as my primary storage device and haven't had a single problem. Great product. The automatic parking of the drive head may be an issue going forward but I have not noticed anything yet.

Excellent drive that does exactly what it was designed for, storing massive amounts of data and is perfect for an external drive because it's cool and quiet. Would recommend putting the drive in an enclosure with eSATA if you intend on transferring huge files.

Good drive but Greenwashed
Comment:
Great drive. I pretty well bought only WD drives until now. The price per Gig is not as good as smaller drives but the fact that I can replace 2 older 750G drives and still have 500g left to play with is a big plus. I can reduce the number of drives in the case and these produce less heat and draw less power. It is quieter than the others too particularly it is idle. No problems with installation. The replacement warranty is great too if you ever need it. There is a problem though. Any energy savings is lost because the packaging has changed. It is in a big hard plastic clamshell pack which demands a larger outer box to ship also. The clamshell packaging is nasty to open. It bears no recycle code that I can find. Do we have to stop buying WD bare drives? I hate this!

nice drive, fast, quiet, but runs a bit warm
Comment:
I used two of the 2 TB drives in a Buffalo backup drive enclosure. During long running periods (Apple time machine full backup of 600 GB of data) the Buffalo drive unit fan could not keep up with the twin 2 TB drive heat load, and the unit reduced the data rate to Kbits per second instead of megabits per second. For normal short run duration operations the drives work really well and they are very quiet. I highly recommend them.

Cons:To slow, price way too high.

Pros:Lots of space.
Comment:
2TB, pleanty of space, atleast for now, but slow, if you need speed go for the black version. Build quality is there, overall good purchase, what would make this a winner though would be a lower price point, sub $200 would be perfect. Using this through a usb connection will make you fall asleep, when transfering large files, best to use internally or with an esata connection. This review was modfied by poster @ 09-19-09 12:14 PM

Cons:- Heads park too many times

Pros:+ SPACE!+ Quiet
Comment:
What a hard drive. It was cheap for its space and I put it into an MX-1 enclosure. It's very quiet but the only thing I don't like it is that the heads park too many times when it is idle. However, since it's a Green drive, that's why.

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:- none

Pros:- 2TB!- price (after PM)
Comment:
A great drive that I am using to replace two 1TB drives. Not putting price as a low down as the price per GB (after PM) is not much different price/gb than a 1.5TB. Speed is also not an issue as I don't see any slow down and with 2TB it is more of a storage drive not to be used as a main drive (unless maybe for HTPC). Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:Not the best price per GB out right now of course being on the leading edge in storage

Pros:Highest storage capacity out right now (August 14th, 2009), saves power, quiet and of course if you only have limited SATA slots you can likely replace a couple other drives with this single one
Comment:
This drive is great, a dream come true for storage aficionados. My 1TB drive was running out of space for my video files of a certain type I like to keep all together, so I've been watching these for awhile, well, finally the price was looking right to me as these have started to come down a lot, NCIX was good enough to price match this for me at what I considered quite a good deal, plus they gave me express air shipping with it which was nice. It's super quiet, a little thick with it's 4 platters, which is to be expected though, and of course still fits in the 3.5" form factor obviously, and the storage capacity as noted is fantastic. Not sure how much I can say here, so I'll just say that, the price has really come down, not the cheapest per gig, but getting there, and NCIX will price match anything legitimate for you if you happen to see a good deal for these out there, as I certainly did.

Great HDD
Comment:
I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with 2TB of storage, but I'm sure as my needs change over time, I'l find a use for it. Nevertheless, this drive works flawlessly so far. I've never had any problem with Western Digital products, so I don't anticipate any with this drive. I'll update if the situation changes, but I've used at least a dozen WD HDDs, and they've all been flawless. 5 stars all the way!!

Cons:PricePerformance is not top notch.

Pros:Huge capacity for a single drive
Comment:
When you need large storage space while maintaining a limited number of drives, this is the only choice. Actually Western Digital has another drive which should be available soon, but at the time this was the only thing larger than 1.5TB.

Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATA 32MB Cache 3.5IN Hard Drive OEM
Cons:More expensive than 2 1tb drives in RAID0, and they would preform better. Who can use all of this room?

Pros:500gb a platter i believe = faster seek times.Partition the hard drive to 1tb and you have a hell of a fast drive with more room in the future.
Comment:
If you need the ABSOLUTE MOST ROOM in you computer(10tb+) then consider this drive. Otherwise, get 2 or 3 1tb drives for the same price.
