Cons: Cisco default firmware is really bad. 5GHz radio support by Tomato is poor at large transfer rates due to internal USB driver.

I've bought 3 of these now. One 2 months ago, 2 more just this week on sale. Being able to flash both Tomato and DD-WRT firmware is a huge plus since I can choose which one I want depending on features. It has a 16MB flash to fit the largest firmwares for both Tomato and DD-WRT, and the cpu is basically as fast as an RT-N66U.The wireless range on them are just as good as external antenna due to the built-in amplifiers on both radios. I use 2 of them to extend the range of my wireless coverage using the 5GHz radios as clients and 2.4GHz radios as access points. I use the 3rd as a travel router with openVPN tunneling all traffic to my home's main router (E4200v1). The openVPN traffic is slower but it's the same performance on any non-ARM based router.Super stable and hasn't required a restart since I've finished installing+configuring them. |

I have been using this router for 5 days and have about 7 devices connected. I have not had a single connection dropped. It has a very easy step by step setup for beginners and also has great features for more advanced users. i would definitely recommend this router specially if it is on sale. |

Bought this router on sale at $67.99, which I think was a very decent price for this type of router. I'm not a sophisticated user, so can't comment much on the technicals of the router. However, the upgrade from a wireless-G router to this router has marked a significant increase in signal strength around the house. It probably won't be phased out for another 4 to 5 years. I'd recommend this router to those who would want a medium-high end router for below 80 dollars (when on sale). |

With my old router, streaming shows over wifi was quite laggy, so I bought this one and the lag is gone! No more buffering during the show. Guess the dual band helps. Also, bought this when it was 69.99 so it was a very good deal. |

This router is amazing! In a house with a lot of wifi networks it performs just fine and has no interference. The range is pretty good as well, got almost full bars in 3 chambers away separated by walls (not concrete however). I am not streaming videos on wifi, so can't tell you the results there, but otherwise, the speed test of the wifi internet is very similar (of course a little bit lower like 7.7 Mbps vs. 8.2 Mbps for my case) to the wired connection due to the losses. Bought it on special for 70$, I recommend! |

First of all i would like to say i got it on sale for 69.99$ so price is very competitive.I got signal improvement over my older Trendnet router ( i order this one cause i use to have poor signal ) even with same router location. Dual band makes a difference.Ain't use the USB port yet but i plan to set a network drive for backup purpose.Notice the lack of wall mounting holes, but if u do not care or your router is hidden like mine you will fin way to hang it. Look for that over a search engine....Also i ain't really get noticable speed boost over my old router, not as adviced.Almost forgot, the housing is well ventilated through holes all around the back cover and you can see big heatsinks for that type of hardware (longer fins on heatsinks)Overall, if you can grab it for same price, go for it. |

Very good router for the price. It was finicky at first with web pages loading and wireless, but after the f/w and some changes in the settings, it is performing reliably now (for about 3 weeks).There are improvements to be made, but can't complain for the price. |

I wanted faster LAN speeds over wireless, but the more reading I did, it became clear I couldn't do it without going dual band. I did some serious research before I purchased. I've been pretty weary of buying Linksys stuff since the days of the WRT54G, but this has won me over.This router is a serious performer when you factor in the sale price; it's pretty close to routers that cost nearly twice as much. After reading all the performance specs I could find online, I decided to do some very unscientific testing of my own. I paired the router with an Asus dual band card. I copied a 6.5GB folder from my NAS to a machine wired to the router; the copy took about 4:20 (he he). I did the same copy over wireless from a machine within about 15 ft from the router, and the copy took 7:03. That roughly translates to 25.7MB/s and 16.9MB/s respectively. Speeds were pretty consistent throughout the copy. Just bought the Linksys AE2500 to test if this will work any faster. So far, I'm impressed. |

Unit purchased Feb. 21, 2012; failed week of Apr. 9th. Have experienced Linksys router failures before but never after only seven weeks. Unit performed well while it worked but CANNOT recommend product due to early failure and NCIX refusal to exchange defective unit less than two months after purchase. |

Cons: Very vague tables, very hard to register equipment when the router doesn't even show what's REALLY connected. Neighbour hacked the WPA2 pass-code at some point, wouldn't know by looking at the DHCP tables, nothing was listed even though two Apple products were attached to my network and visible!

I "thought" I was upgrading from a D-Link DIR-825, my goal was to exclusively use Linksys network products. My home has 19 connected devices: multiple LAN printers, NAS, laptops, netbooks, desktops, TVs, Blu-Ray Players, Wii, tablets and 5 smart phones… plus tenants in the basement on guest zones with connections coming and going. I find that I require DHCP reservations on most of my equipment in order to maintain solid, stable communication throughout. All the above is networked through this Linksys E3200 router into ethernet, switch, WiFi, Linksys RE1000 repeater and Linksys powerline. The E3200 does seem to have slightly better WiFi penetration into the basement than the DIR-825 it replaced but speed seems to be about the same and seems a little slower to connect to. Also admin pages are slower to load than the old DIR-825 and not as logically laid out. Many functions or logs seem to require too many mouse clicks to get into. I also really don’t like the way the guest connection is done, just an open unsecured signal? Unsecured WiFi just invites neighbours and hackers attention! What I really have not liked is the vagueness of the E3200 logs and DHCP tables. The DHCP tables don’t seem to function properly, reserving DHCP is very hard to administer if the router can’t even list what’s currently connected to it. Some device names don’t list either, just MAC addresses. The TVs, Blu-Ray players, NAS, printers… none of them ever show up in the tables! They are connected but you’d never know it by looking. Guest zone devices don’t show “anywhere” either! The old D-Link DIR-825 recognized everything and listed “everything” in the DHCP tables in a clear and workable manner. Overall I’m really surprised and disappointed, I thought Linksys was better than this. I’ve been waiting, hoping another firmware upgrade would come down the pike to fix this but not yet anyways… I’m frustrated 5 months in with this junky unit, I thought I was upgrading! I also recently purchased a Linksys RE1000 repeater. Again poorly surprised, the E3200 router is not even completely compatible with their own repeater on guest zone! Swap in the D-Link DIR-825 and the repeater works flawlessly! Switch back to the E3200 and the router chokes and errors into a WPS glitch across the whole 2.4GHz band, locking it all out with a WPS that’s supposed to be turned off... Overall the E3200 was a waste of $139 (when it first came out) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN BEER! And yes all my firmware is updated. Needless to say the E3200 is headed to recycling and I’m back to my poor old DIR-825 assisted by the great little Linksys RE1000 repeater helping the guest zone into the basement, they are a great team. Very disappointed overall in the E3200. I’m sure if you have average or simple networking needs, this unit might work fine for you. If you actually want control of your devices, the E3200 is not the unit you need it’s a headache. It might work better after a huge firmware upgrade to improve tables, logs and repeater compatibility, until then it is garbage for an advanced user. |
