Sleek looking. Compact. Feels quite solid. If it could be trusted, it'd be a great price. UNRELIABLE! I've owned 3 of them now. Two out of the 3 have died for no reason at all. One, it appears now, is just a ticking time bomb of data loss. The very first 1 lasted about five months, then died. I had it replaced under warranty (which took forever). The new one arrived, then 3 days later died in precisely the very same way. Either they just sent my old drive back to me, or it's a lot of faulty hardware. Either way, that's not acceptable. The drives are even on a UPS backups system. There's just no excuse for this. I think the entire firm is made up of three people today. The RMA department was MIA when I named back about the new drive and there was no 1 there who could aid me. Right after dealing with the consumer service, I can say confidently that I will never purchase an additional product from Macally. If you value the capacity to trust your equipment, I would advise that you to do precisely the very same thing.

Inexpensive Aluminum enclosure. Durable Unfortunatly the power supply for this enclosure is not up to par. Started off fine then immediately after a month of operating with 2 drives it didnt have adequate juice to power bothem of them on. Then about an additional month later it doesnt have adequate Juice to power even 1 drive on.

This is my second buy of this enclosure. I was in a position to get quicker transfer speeds employing a gig switch. In Windows XP perfmon measured 29 MB/sec transfers though I was copying huge avi files across my neighborhood lan. Much far better than my initial review of this enclosure when I had my ten럼 switch. For the individual who wrote that his has a red light, it indicates a negative drive is present. I had a poor drive in my case and it was red until I replaced the drive with a very good one. In his case he only had one drive and was in span mode, so it assumes a missing or negative drive. Take it off span mode (default from factory) when working with with 1 drive. That need to fix the red light alarm. I will be acquiring a third 1 soon. Due to the fact I am making use of these as backup devices they are not turned on all the time so I don't seriously be concerned about the Quite HOT power adapters as one reviewer has already mentioned.

Works nicely with two 750 GB WD "green" disks in JBOD mode. Solid, all aluminum case, comparatively easy setup, plug and play with linux. Power adapter died right after about 1.5 years. The fan is a bit annoying, but that's private preference. The bright blue activity LED can be distracting - I would prefer some thing much more subdued.

1. Small size for dual-bay HDD.2. Good style, basic and sexy.three. Aluminum material for superior heat dissipation.four. Extremely straight forward to install and use.five. Exhaust fan on the back, incredibly silent.6. Long USB 2. cable included.7. The power adapter don't get too hot as other people say. Only warm (after transferring 650GB). Little difficulty to put the power/data SATA cables on location, when closing the enclosure after installing two drives. This is not a big issue, but is really *important* to be quite careful, to avoid putting pressure on the connectors. I will obtain this enclosure once again. Great for the cost.At the moment installed: 750GB WD and 1.5TB Seagate. No issue with compatibility, enclosure recognized them right away.

- It looks nice on your desk.- Support service is responsive at times. - The LED is incredibly bright.- Takes forever to get the drives inside.- It's actually loud (almost as loud as my air conditioner)- It's totally unreliable. (when you see the LED turn red, beware, it won't be alive much longer) I bought two of these to property a series of massive internal SATA drives I harvested from my tower when I bought my MacBook Pro a couple years back. Since then, they have had to send me 3 replacement drives. They preserve failing for no superior reason. The drives inside are fine. When the replacements come, swapping the drives works fine. The 1st enclosure failed after only about a month. It was replaced. The replacement failed inside two weeks. It was replaced. The third one has worked ever since, but the data is seldom accessed so the drive hasn't essentially been on for much more than about two days total in the last six months. Now, the other drive I bought originally has begun to fail. Fortunately, last time I spoke with them I insisted they send me two so that I have a backup when the other would inevitably fail. And now it is.I kept telling myself I was just getting negative luck. In the manufacturing approach there's usually going to be some lemons. But this is acquiring out of hand.

If you are looking for a solid and reliable enclosure, don't look anyplace else, this is the one for you. The very best enclosure I've had so far. Straightforward installation, stylish and solid, comes with a fan, not that it demands 1 in my opinion, the aluminum case by itself majes the enclosure run cool. Supports two challenging drives that you can combine into 1. None so far. Rubber feet would have been excellent, make confident you buy come, it will support absorbing shocks and also minimize the drive's noise.

Loaded two 1 gb drives. I am happy with the good quality of this enclosure. It's not too loud, and the blue light is fine for me. The only con I identified is the anodized finish on the case. It appears like a actual affordable finish......some thing I would anticipate from affordable Far East manufacturer....

So far it's been quite dependable with 2 WD Black Caviar 1TB drives in JBOD mode. Copies are rapid. Unit stays surprisingly cool, even when performing extended file moves. Heavy, but what do you anticipate with two drives and a metal housing?

solid metal, tight but not cramped right after less than a year and only sporadic use, fan controller quit. LED did NOT turn red. Only realized a thing was wrong when the lower drive died.Style is inherently flawed - two drives is too much for even metal on metal to failsafe. With single drive metal on metal enclosures, the metal is adequate (usually) to maintain your drive alive till you recognize one thing is wrong. With two drives its an instant death oven when the fan quits. Don't obtain. Either go up-industry to a dual fan, dual controller, or down industry to single drive metal on metal (with fan - your drive will last longer).Macally must rescue the style with a thermometer driven warning beeper and shutdown. You can tell by the workmanship this wasn't intended to be a negative item. Sadly, as it is now, it's no very good.

Tiny, fits two drives for 2TB, cheaper than most enclosures out there. I have bought Macally and they last. Ordered this on Fri got it on Tues. Newegg is excellent like that! Instructions kinda suck. I have a red light pwr button when the enclosure is turned on. Nothing in directions say anything about this. The drive operates and it connects to the computer so I don't know. I only have one drive in the unit and that may possibly have one thing to do with it. It may be looking for the other drive which I will get later. Macally has good affordable equipment so I can deal with the instructions kinda sucking.

Solid enclosure, uncomplicated to install drives. Non-normal power cord and transformer. We are utilizing these for HDD backups. 2 1TB drives loaded as JBOD, Once in a even though, the Windows 2003 server cannot read the disk as a RAID array and you have to recreate it in Disk Admin. This is NOT excellent for backups. ;-)

the Fan comes on automatically when temperature exceeds specific degrees. heat sensing fan. really nicely believed out design wise. really well built. Extremely sturdy. cools Particularly well. no exactly where on the manual it mentions about the heat sensing fan feature. i practically RMAed the enclosure due to the fact i thought the circuitry for the fan was broken. it wasn't untill following i turned it on for a though the drive stareted to warm up the fan automatically came on. so far only have 1 500GB drive inside. strategy on adding a different 500GB. currently utilizing it to store all my movies from huge to little. does what it suppose to plus cools particularly well, which was what i was searching for in the 1st place. my prior thermaltake external eclosure, which had the identical design as the Antec enclosure, employed to over heat all the time causing information transfer glitch when watching movies on the drive. and i live in Southern California, i had to discover an active cooling resolution enclosure. look no farther. i will update with yet another assessment once again later if one thing does go wrong.

My cooling fan just turned on and the factor is whisper quiet... well fairly quiet at least. My case fans are louder than this thing by far and I thought they had been quiet. They appear to be turning on about 15 seconds then off for about 30 though transferring files. Not obtrusive at all as long as you don't have your ear appropriate up against it. The Enclosure looks good and was incredibly effortless to assemble. The cost is challenging to beat if you are only looking at the product page and not the reviews of extended term owners. From the commence this enclosure had concerns. The tiny fan was clearly audible from much more than 10 feet away and it was on and off each and every 10-30 seconds. It was like water-torture. Right after three months the fan started to rattle and failed absolutely about two weeks into the fourth month. Thanks to the, newly, shortened warranty period I had to replace the fan myself. I replaced the fan with a much nicer fan with higher throughput as properly as lower decibel rating and was pleased with the newly quiet enclosure. However, right after 1 year 2.5 months, the box had totally failed. Red-light, won't mount at all. The drives begin to spin up but then almost instantly spin down. I am Really hoping I will be able to rescue the information from the drives.

It did function for a full year but now It wont boot two drives. I think it will at least boot 1 drive but its really temperamental. I believe the problem might be the sata connectors/power. Simply because the sata connectors feel quite loose the back 1 doesn't "click" into spot anymore and these cables are crammed into a tight space. Won't turn on a lot more than 2 drives. Im quite positive when I purchased this originally it had a 1 year warrenty but now it says its only 30 days. Unacceptable. If you want some thing that will match the aluminum casing maybe try OWC they atleast stand by their item. I am not happy this factor failed I have a 250GB WD external I bought five years ago that is still going powerful but this enclosure is weak looking on the inside. I purchased a 2nd 1 back in November because I believed this 1 was doing so effectively but I guess not. Their internet site is slow to navigate and I honestly don't think they have email support at all. Excellent luck acquiring support if it does fail and you nonetheless have a warranty. Why would Newegg even give a item with only 30 day warranty people today would considerably rather deal with Newegg and their rma approach than some low cost chinese business.

It is a relatively low cost dual-bay enclosure that looks does the job, looks good performing it and it is aluminum. Despite the fact that not as refined looking as macally's single disk enclosures, it is nonetheless significantly better than most of those plastic boxes everywhere else. Passive Cooling & Active Cooling. Does not come with any rubber feet. No HD activity lights. Keeps HDs at idle. Initially I did expertise the continual cyclic nature of the fan, but discovered what was needed to avoid this: vertical stance. Laying it flat, even with my self-installed rubber feet, on the desk did not give sufficient air flow around the enclosure for adequate passive cooling at idle to prevent the fan from cycling. Immediately after I changed the orientation the fan no longer cycles at idle. Also, would be good to be able to turn 1 drive off manually.

Solid aluminum case; silent when running (even with fan on); easy installation of drives; very quick data transfer rate (beats all my other USB2 enclosures). The power adapter brick gets very HOT (as in, can't hold in your hand). Did I mention the brick gets HOT? I ended up putting the two bricks I have on an aluminum shelf with a fan blowing on them just so they don't sit on carpet. It worried me that significantly. I've utilized a lot more than a dozen unique external enclosures. Some of them had been purchased with drives in them (Seagate, WD) and the rest had been empty. This is by far the finest of the lot. I currently have 2 of these running dual 500g Seagate drives with no problems. The stylish blue light on the energy button is also the activity light. It's incredibly vibrant and doesn't change considerably when drives are getting accessed. You can see a slight variation and I'm not 100% positive it's supposed to be the activity light (may just fluctuate based on power draw).Regardless of the con of the energy adapter finding really hot, I will still invest in a lot more of these. It's that good. Can't give it five stars although...

Solid, all metal case. Fan also assists keep it cool. Excellent look. Tight fit. Almost too tight as the drive pushes back onto the sata cable connections on the PCB at the rear. Could be trouble down the road... As with anything IDE/SATA, takes forever to low-level format. USB 2. not all that quick but it's convenient. Employing perfmon in XP I measured 10 MByte writes/sec with significant files and five MByte avg writes/sec with small files. No miracles here. I'm working with the span feature and it appears ok. Drive is for my backups so I don't know how it would deal with everyday tasks. I will be obtaining yet another one as it looks good.

The style of the device is fantastic but for 1 area (mentioned in cons). The construction is really solid but it's light. It contains no plastic where it matters (structure). The USB controller is very fast, one of the fastest I've observed. The noise level from the fan is audible but not incredibly loud. JBOD/Span and Regular modes of operation valuable. Why it's Superior but not Superb? It amplifies seeks, which is minor but noticeable. The power adapter is not grounded, each device these days should be. Overall a extremely solid obtain, I am pleased. I recommend reading the manual (on CD) just before installing as you could run into issues if your challenging drives already have data on them. Some minor tweaks and it would have been a 5Ǜ.
