Cons: Still waiting, hopefully it doesn't...

Pros: Cheap SSD, but it seems that Agility 3 is even cheaper
Comment:
Bought the drive on 31 of March.I didn't dare attempt to use this as the boot drive, so I still have Windows 7 on my old 7200RPM magnetic drives.Although not having Windows on the ssd, the games that I play already eat up nearly 70GB, so barely enough room for Windows anyway. (blame Shogun 2 for occupying 30GB...)Be warned, there's a lot of rage and anger on the reliability of this ssd. I haven't had any problems so far but I hope not.Anyway, I have a mATX board so no AHCI option, not even RAID.However, loading time in Shogun 2 is considerably faster, probably less than half compared to that on my old 7200RPM drive. We'll see how far this ssd can go before it malfunctions.I probably should have gotten a vertex 2 or agility 3, or even A-DATA ssd, but too late.

Cons: - Not any faster than the Vertex Plus lineup, even with its controller improvements- Async ram optimization

Pros: - Very good capacity / price ratio- Best compatibility for older SATA1 systems
Comment:
Bought this for a really old laptop that had SATA connections, for shockproof and performance purposes. This drive will almost saturate the SATA150 standard for both read/write, but performance will almost double with newer SATA chipsets. The difference is, the newer drives with Sandforce controllers don't play very nicely with old SATA standards so this is about as cheap AND as effective in performance boost as you can get. Almost the same price as the smallest 2.5" HDD available.

Cons: Nothing Yet, maybe a little slow.

Pros: Cheap, faster than hdd
Comment:
So far no problems with it, threw it in a Sata 2 laptop so not expecting it to kill in speed, still is pretty fast compared to 5400 rpm hdd. more to extend battery life. Which it does. Have not had any problems that others are complaining about. Might just be lucky for now but either way thats what the garantee is for. As with any drive always have a backup of important stuff.

Cons: Horrible quality controlTwo drives dead within a month.

Pros: Faster than HDD
Comment:
Had one drive die after about 3 weeks of usage. Reallocated sectors started to appear followed by random lockups followed by the drive finally failing to boot.NCIX gave me an exchange which had reallocated (bad) sectors right out of the box. Then that one started to exhibit random lockups as well.Fortunately, NCIX offered me a refund despite being outside the normal return policy. That's the only good experience about this purchase.

Cons: Dead after 1 week

Pros: Decently fastInexpensive
Comment:
There's no shortage of bad reviews on this drive, which I wish I'd read before buying. I've used and sold dozens of OCZ SSDs in the last couple years and never had a single one fail until this one.I put this drive in a laptop and installed Windows 7 on it. After about one week of daily use the laptop would not boot and the drive appeared to be unpartitioned. Spontaneous secure erase!I connected this drive as a secondary in another system and OCZ's Toolbox software already showed SMART read errors. I did a secure erase and sent it back. We'll see how the replacement fares. It may sit in the plastic until a firmware update  comes out.

Cons: Failed after two weeks.

Pros: Good price. So much fast than a hard drive.
Comment:
I got this since the price is very good for an SSD. It's not too small to fit Windows 7 and some applications.I didn't trust this new SSD, so I tested it often with the error scan function of the HD Tune program. Gradually over the next two weeks, the reallocated sector count increased from 0 to 8.Finally, after two weeks of use, the HD Tune error scan would freeze my computer at a certain spot during the scan. When I rebooted after pressing the reset button, Windows would start booting then would stall. Only after turning off the power and turning it back on would I be able to boot Windows.I have sent the drive back to OCZ and expect a replacement. They said they would send me an Agility 3 instead of a replacement Petrol.

Cons: Drive is not dependable

Pros: Price per gigabyte was goodSpeed seemed fine for the price
Comment:
First petrol lasted about a month, and then failed, rma'd and the 2nd one lasted about a week. Not sure if its just bad drives or bad firmware, either way the data on the drive was destroyed and the drive itself is completely unusable. Price seems good, but if you can't count on the drive to last more then a month its not worth it, maybe there will be a firmware update  that fixes whatever issues are going on, but for now I wouldn't trust a petrol with anything important at all.

Cons: Died in less than a month

Pros: Fast while it worked
Comment:
Funny but I tested it for almost a month before putting it into production and it died the first night it was in a production machine. At least I had a backup. It would not restore from windows home server but would let me do a quick format. When I did a full format to see if that would fix it crashed the windows 7 machine and would not even let you into the bios until you unplugged it. After the NCIX return date and it cost me $20 to ship back to OCZ. Heed the negative reviews on other sites!Ocz is shipping me an agility drive as they have no more petrols in stock. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing

Cons: Requires Firmware flash. Was Very easy, just follow the instructions.

Pros: Price Less than $1/Gb
Comment:
I bought this to replace my dying Kingston v100. Had to flash the firmware but it wasn't a problem as the instructions are fantastic and easy to follow. I find that it's a little slower than the kingston loading windows but only by a second or so. I put BF3 on this drive and it loads the levels quite fast, sometimes I have to wait 30 seconds still to play.Pretty good drive so far, fair speeds, bang for buck can't be beat. I just hope it lasts longer than the kingston did.

Cons: Difficult to flash firmware

Pros: Cheap, less than $1/GBSpeed, quite fast$20 NCIX gift card bonus!
Comment:
NCIX has been good in terms of order processing and shipping. The drive itself is not bad in speed - Sequential Read :211.801MB/s, Sequential Write :119.180MB/s, Random Read 512KB :154.483MB/s, Random Write 512KB :95.387MB/sNow here's the barrier- as of Mar 2012, you can NOT update /flash the firmware without a computer running Win7 with an extra SATA port that supports AHCI (if you do not know what it is, do NOT buy this). For me, my desktop is running WinXP so I cannot update  the firmware on the drive (even with AHCI). The SSD is supposed to be used in another laptop. Heard too many horror story with this SSD with the shipped firmware , I'm going to wait until the linux based update  tool available before installation.http://www.ocztechnology.com/ssd_tools/OCZ_Petrol_/If your question is "why update  the firmware?", here are some reasons quoted directly from OCZ:1) "the initial firmware had some bugs, I really recommend you to update  first" http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?100133-Very-Disappointed-128GB-Petrol 2) WARNING: This is a Destructive Flash, back up all data on SSD. Proceeding with this update  will result in complete loss of data on the SSD.3) Updating the firmware from the toolbox is not supported when Windows is running off the drive you are trying to update .4) Toolbox will not update  a primary system drive (e.g. drive letter "C:"). You must run Windows from another drive and then update  your SSD using Toolbox.

Cons: For my purpose, none.

Pros: Great upgrade to my Macbook pro. Price per GB can't be beat, and probably won't be for a while.
Comment:
I bought this to freshen up my 2009 Core2 Macbook pro. It's just a night and day difference. I was thinking of buying a new laptop since my pro was starting to show its age, but I wouldn't have been able to get something with the same screen and build quality in my price range. So, instead I decided to upgrade ram and hard drive. I am very glad I did.The petrol does the trick, depending on what you want to use it for. If you're doing what I'm doing, and sprucing up an old laptop for general use, you really can't go wrong. Older laptops are sata2 anyway... why would you need faster? If I was going to shop for a boot drive for my PC, I would likely go elsewhere, since a pittance more money gets you saturating the whole sata3 connection. But that's a matter of buying hardware fitted to the purpose...

That didn't take long. 1 month of great speed. Then the bad sectors started to appear and now I'm getting I/O hardware errors. Good thing I image my computer daily. I was able to recover on a standard magnetic drive, but now my 1 month old OCZ Petrol SSD is toast. Have to RMA it.

Pros: - Descent data transfer speeds- Good value at the sale price
Comment:
Bought this on sale for a Macbook Pro (mid-2009 model), and it has been has been working with no problems for the past 2 weeks. The drive is not as fast as some of the more expensive higher end SSDs, but I am happy with this drive so far.

after purchasing my first ocz petrol 128gb ssd, i flashed the firmware right away and fresh installed windows. due to inaccurately optimizing win 7 system/power configurations, the ssd failed after three days. had problems POSTing from backup hd in the optical caddy with the ssd installed.lost some data (95% of my data was on other media, the other 5% was newer data and unrecoverable). ssd bricked after attempting to reinstall/reflash in the main drive bay, freezing on win 7 startup from hd.went back to ncix retail brodway, exchanged the drive with a new one, flashed the firmware, installed win 7 + drivers + updates, and currently following through THE BASIC GUIDE & FAQ ABC for OCZ SDD.http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?79848-THE-BASIC-GUIDE-amp-FAQ-ABC-for-OCZ-SSD&p=567552&viewfull=1#post567552^^ following this guide should prevent and solve many ssd issues! please read!will also be creating a system image and daily backup schedule of new files in my backup hd. hopefully there will be no more issues.it's otherwise a great value for product (tl;dr)...

Cons: So far, one good, one dead in the first use.

Pros: Price/GB ratio very competitive. Good size and satisfactory speed.
Comment:
Bought two of these for a gaming machine. I was very satisfied with one after flashing to the latest firmware. (Which is a little extensive. Flash, and let sit for a while so it can "set in".) Second unit was the first drive I've ever received DOA. Hooked it up and it failed to format. Now can't be seen by either windows or bios. Will be the subject of my first RMA.On the flipside, in a subjective sense, I've never had a system up and running faster. Not my first SSD, but by far the fastest.
