Cons: none

Pros: Fast/quiet and its Samsung
Comment:
Been up for a few weeks with no issues. Burn speeds are not blazing only due to the 8x speed, but what do you expect for a notebook dvd-wr. Only other gripe is that it takes two usb ports (one for power and one for data) but oh well most machines nowadays have a plethora of usb 2.0 ports.

Cons: May require two ports on some computers, wouldn't boot a Windows Install DVD on a Mac

Pros: Works (mostly) with a MacBook Pro, Still works while plugged into one port, Good price, fairly slim
Comment:
I PMed this drive for only $33, making it a really good deal for an external. I got it because I want to use an optibay with a MacBook Pro, and still want to be able to use a CD once in a blue moon.My testing with this drive was promising, showing that with the MacBook Pro, I only required one cable for everything to work perfectly.Although I was able to boot a Snow Leopard Install DVD with the drive, my attempts to boot with a Windows 7 Install DVD proved futile, unfortunately. (The same disc worked okay with the internal "SuperDrive").The drive is fairly thin and light, and it actually works fine for me with just a normal mini USB cable (the included one has two plugs and is a bit special).I was able to rip an audio CD with reasonable speeds and it does everything a CD-ROM drive should do -- with no AC adapter!

Cons: - ties down ur netbook with a cable / small box- Only 8x

Pros: - slim, sleek design USB 2.0- great for netbook use- sale price of 29.99
Comment:
Sale price of 29.99 was too tempting to pass up. Always good to have an external optical drive. Pretty darn slim design so could be worse.

Cons: - No much other than it maxes at 8X; but then it is same for this type of external burners.

Pros: - Small and compact- Solid build quality- Burns Dual Layer discs well
Comment:
Bottom line its a great drive. Too bad I did not get it when it was selling for $29 few days ago because I had already bough it for $35. Even at $35 it is a great price.

Cons: n/a

Pros: usb interface, plus and playnice lookfeel good holding one of these
Comment:
i have a large number of servers/desktops, with this external usb dvd writer, i don't have to buy and install dvd-rom on each of them, bios support boot from these, so having one just serve the purpose.the build quality is good and it is nice looking from my eyes.

Cons: - Small USB.. I cant put it more than 1 foot away from my Laptop, if I want an extender I basically need 2 seperate extenders since it splits near the end- only burns dual layers at 3 - 6x, I prefer 2 or 2.4x but it still seems to burn great at 3x, no coasters yet.

Pros: - Burns Dual Layer discs well (even memorex, saves me money from buying verbatim)- Small and compact
Comment:
Bottom line its a great drive, the cons dont really take away from the quality of the drive at all, those are just my personal preferences. Got it for $29 on boxing week sale; what a steal, goes for twice that at FS.

Cons: Some say they need to plug in both USBs to get it to work. I didn'tA bit bigger than it needs to be.Comes with burning software (Nero)Comes with intrusive firmware updating software

Pros: BrandFairly speedyComes with burning softwareComes with firmware updating software
Comment:
I bought it for 30 clams on NCIX's Boxing day sale. That's a heck of a deal. Thanks NCIX.It's nothing fancy, it just does what it says it's supposed to do.Some have said on here that they have to plug in both USB connectors to get it to work. I didn't. One connector was sufficient to read media and I tested it for burning by burning a CD. It worked fine. (Acer Aspire Timeline X 3820TG-3022)If it doesn't work with the one USB with your laptop though, and you've got a second on the other side you're going to need an extension cable that they sell as an option.Because they didn't include this cable...and they should have, I was going to give it 4 stars. But because I got it for 30 beans how can I give it anything but 5.

I got this for about $30 on boxing week. It will compliment an ultra portable laptop that I am trying to sell, which has no internal optical drive. It works well, can't complain.

Cons: Requires 2 USB ports1st unit RMA - couldn't read disks

Pros: Slim Glossy piano black case
Comment:
Great looking unit but came with a Y type usb cord - requires 2 usb ports to work properly. My laptop has only 1 usb port on either side so needed a usb extention cord to plug to port on other side.!st unit plugged in and loaded drives for Win 7 without issue but since it could not read any disks had to be RMA'ed (waiting for replacement unit).I'm sure the second unit will work fine but since it requires two usb plugs I'm only giving it 3 stars.

Purchased for a friend that been looking for such an external dvd that can be used almost everywhere. This one is slim and Samsung should be a weel reputated brand. On sale for 45$ this is a fair price.

Comment:
I am really impressed by this Slim burner. Records at 8X on regular DVDs and 6X on Double Layer DVDs. I tested with memorex 8X DL disk, detected 6X and burn was complete in about 20 mins. Highly Recommend.
