I bought one of these to go into a server I'm building. I've had great success with the Seagate 500 GB disks, so I'm not surprised that the 750 GB disk is great as well.I'll be hopefully buying more of these to stick into a SATA RAID array I'm building.

A word about the capacity of the hard disk.To XenoS,In fact, it is not a false advertisement about the capacity of the hard disk drive. In hard disk industry, the manufactures define 1 GB= 1,000,000,000 bytes, while in Windows system, 1 GB= 1024^3 bytes= 1,073,741,824 bytes.

Cons: -Runs very hot-LOUD seek noise-Expensive-700GB true capacity

Pros: -Extreme capacity-Very fast transfer rate-Quiet idle noise
Comment:
I could not wait to get this hard drive when this hard drive was announced. It offers unprecidented capacity for the home user in just a single drive. I have yet to see any problems with Seagate hard drives and this one is no exception. After hooking it up to my computer it was instantly recognized and after a rather long format wait time it was ready to use. Copying stuff to and from the hard drive feels much faster and is just a pleasure to use. Its great for storinglarger files such as high resolution photos and scans as well as print jobs without resorting to multiple drive configurations.Overall I am very pleased with this hard drive - its just a shame that 50GB is lost due to the stupid decimal vs binary capacity rating.

Cons: - Only 698GB after formatting.

Pros: - Huge capacity!- Decent performance.- Fairly quiet.
Comment:
I bought one of these for use as an external eSATA backup drive, to replace a 300GB USB 2.0 one that was full. I put this Seagate 750GB it into a Vantec Nexstar enclosure, specifically the blue one which I also reviewed here at NCIX (includes HD Tune test results). Was a bit worried about compatibility with how much it costs (I hate the hassle of returning stuff), but it worked out fine and is much faster than USB 2.0 ever was. Speed is something I also wanted to improve on besides the increased capacity. If the price comes down I may buy two more and create a RAID array with them; replace my 600GB one with a 1.5TB one. The reviews I've read so far have been quite good in this regard. Could I have used two 300GB drive instead? Sure, but for external use I felt this would be too much of a pain to keep organized with how I do backups and what not. Money wasn't really an issue, so I went with conveniance. Over all I can't really complain, other than that there should be a law that forces manufacturers to label the true size of a hard drive when formatted. After formatting using TrueCrypt (NTFS) there is only 698GB to use, not 750GB. A 52 GB difference, at 70 plus cents per MB which I paid for but can't use, is a lot on such an expensive drive, and as drives conitnue to get bigger this way of doing business is going to reflect increasingly bad on the companies that build them. It is false advertising after all, and isn't put up with in any other industry, so why do we allow it with hard drive capacities? Otherwise, great drive to own if you can afford it!
