It does every thing I need to have it to and much more with DD-WRT. All you need to have to do is throw out that firmware when you get it, and you couldn't have a better choice of a 802.11b/g router. Um...none? No N, but that's not what you're purchasing.

Good router - immediately flashed it with Tomato firmware, which is quite simple. Just comply with the easy directions. It's only been a couple days, but the router has been rock strong. If B/G is all you require, and want the solution of effortlessly upgrading the firmware to tweak to your hearts need, appear NO Further! None - I knew going in I wasn't getting a N router. Ok, so you've bought this router and flashed it..... Just remember after that is done and you've set it up, you should also reset your modem to get on the web. This gave me fits for an hour or so. I knew the router was working, but couldn't get on the web. Once I unplugged the energy and cable to my modem, waited a minute or so, then re-hooked up power and cable, all was effectively in the planet!Had I known this or believed of it proper away, I'd have been done with hookup, flash, setup, and on-line in 15 minutes or significantly less.I bought this router to replace another brand that kept dropping wireless signal.I'm confident I'm not taxing this router anywhere near it's complete capabilities...... just making use of it for house use for 1 wired desktop, 1 wireless laptop, and to wirelessly stream to my Wii.Tomato's alternative of becoming in a position to adjust singal power output and tweak it to get optimal signal about our house makes this router a ideal buy in my book!

With Tomato firmware, it's entirely steady and configurable. None except it has no successor with Gbit ports and 802.11n. Initially WRT54GL is various years old and is configured as an Access Point. When my wired Web router died, I replaced it with the exact same brand. The replacement developed really serious performance difficulties and had to go. When I couldn't discover another World wide web router with excellent reviews, it lastly occurred to me that a second WRT54GL could be configured as a straightforward wired World wide web router (i.e., radio is shut off). The second WRT54GL works Great in that function. If either WRT54GL should fail, I can quickly reconfigure the other WRT54GL to serve both functions.

I didn't acquire this from Newegg, but I am nicely beyond satisfied. Making use of the DD-WRT firmware. This router is a lord and master among routers. There is a quite very good reason it's a 44-time winner of the customer decision award. There are plenty of customers out there who have given numerous, several particulars on this router; all I will say, is that I would propose it to any individual and every person, regardless of your user level. Are you kidding me?Properly, it wasn't free...nor must it be. ɛ Linksys

Even though the router worked it was rapid with each wiredand wireless. After about three days the Wireless signal degraded to the point where I neededto be with in 30 feet. Place old Linksys 802.11b in linewith robust signal. Confirmed it was new router by usingnew router antennas. I have study to numerous very good evaluations to think this is typicalso I will assume it's just a terrible router, it occurs.I requested a RMA for a refund and I ordered another.

Typically performs. Prone to interference. Despite the fact that a D-hyperlink (dir-635 iirc) (used to replace this) in the same spot also had problems (even when using 9dbi antennas) - Didn't matter which channel/fixed speed and so on. I had this on the 3rd floor of an apt complicated (that sat overlooking other complexes & had towers behind) and we could never ever get this issue to stop having (almost continuous) difficulties. In yet another duplex it also had issues, not as a lot although.Eventually i moved it to one more apt complicated (downstairs) and just disconnected the antennas (+disable) for wired-only use and it appears to work fine. The 1 i have is an old model so maybe the newer ones are far better (although we believed that back then as well)

Had this router for more than a year now and still operates like a champ. All wired ports operate excellent and wireless has great reception. We have two gaming rigs a Television and a Printer wired into the router, with a laptop that browses the online through WLAN, and it can manage it all just fine. It is receiving a bit out-dated with the newer requirements for more quickly wireless communications, but if I wanted it rapid for the laptop I would have ran some wires and installed a wall-jack to pipe into.An additional thing is the cost has jumped up by ฤ given that I initially bought it in early 2010. Considering that I live out in the nation I have zero challenges with the wireless on cross-speak and interference with other routers and other wireless systems bogging it down. Allot of individuals like to place their device at fault when it is their neighborhood that has been more than-populated with devices communicating over WLAN causing issues.

If you owned Lynksys routers just before, setting up this a single is really effortless. The signal is fantastic and so far I did not have signal or speed drops. The set up of wireless safety in this router can not be far more effortless, you just want to opt for one particular from a combo in the wirelss safety menu, enter the want password and save. The world wide web configuration interface of the router can be a bit confusing, but right after a couple of minutes you can navigate by means of it. Setting up different kinds of wireless clientele can be frustrating, it took me 2 hours to set up my whole network. My wired clients (desktop and BD) connected in significantly less than a minute, also my new laptop (Toshiba Sattelite). My old laptop (Compaq Presario) only wanted to connect if security was set up as WEP, so I set up the complete network security as WEP. For my Xbox 360, I needed to restore the network settings to factory defaults and then in automatic settings, otherwise it will no connect to the router.

Just plug it in, connect your Pc and you will have a network. It functions. The router is sluggish on both wired and wireless connections. I may well attempt an open supply IOS to see if that doesn't speed this issue up a tiny. I would buy this router once again, but I wouldn't anticipate it to be a great gaming router or one good for streaming digital audio/video.

This certain router is really reputable as most have noted. I have had zero problems with this router in terms of dropouts with wireless, wireless connectivity, speed, etc. What also tends to make this router wonderful is the fact you can take the stock firmware, and replace it with anything more sophisticated, such as DD-WRT, which offers you extra capabilities at no cost. Typically when you come across a third-celebration item for a precise piece of hardware, you can assure that it is indeed a great piece of hardware that is really trustworthy, and versatile. The present cost tag on this device in spite of its age reflects just how good the item is. Bottom line, purchase it if your looking for reliability more than speed, as it is a 802.11G/B primarily based wireless router. Just the existing value tag, but that is to be anticipated. I'm at present operating the totally free open-supply Tomato 1.27 firmware with totally no troubles. At present have QoS set-up for VoIP, P2P, and my PS3, as nicely as custom wireless settings and particular access restrictions. Awesome firmware if you choose to use this over DD-WRT. Has fantastic characteristics and layout and a awesome bandwidth monitor, which looks like will turn into important due to data capping. A sad day for the internet.

Super-trustworthy, runs DD-WRT and Tomato. Doesn't have Wireless-N or gigabit Ethernet. Can run hot from time to time. I have experience with two of these. I own one that I use at residence. I was going to install DD-WRT on it, but the firmware that was on it worked so nicely I under no circumstances bothered. I think I've had to reset it a total of 3 times due to the fact I've owned it, which has been 3-four years. It was employed for playing MMOs, torrents, and so forth. over both wired and wireless connections. The other 1 that I perform with serves a network of about 10 persons for a small enterprise. It has the DD-WRT firmware on it. It was apparently overheating below the load and one of the company' previous tech help individuals cut a hole in the top rated of the device and stuck a 80mm fan on it. It's sort of odd to see it sitting in the IT closet with enterprise switches (that belong to yet another organization), but it runs just fine now and in no way has to be restarted either.

My online service provider's IP address was 192.168.1.1 which was identical to the Linksys out of the box. Was unable to connect to the online/network until I made the alter. This router is stable. Have had a couple of these in the previous and in no way had any genuine concerns with them ever.

Works great out of the box, but functions amazing when updating firmware to Tomato. None - Operates as anticipated I purchased this device with the intentions of updating the firmware. DD-WRT is one more alternative if you want to broadcast many SSIDs and comes with a handful of far more bells and whistles; even so, Tomato seems to have much better QOS.
