Simply plugged it in to my DELL running Debian GNU/Linux and it worked great with no hassles. I didn't need any drivers or software from the included CD. I'd like to give this device five stars all around, but I can't because of a small but serious flaw. The firmware (version VL03) has a bug which causes it to report that it does not have an 80-wire cable when it is the master and a slave drive is present. That causes the max IDE speed to be limited to UDMA/33 (which is half the usual speed of UDMA/66). Most people probably won't notice the slow down, but you can work around the problem by either putting the drive on an IDE cable by itself (no slave) or by making it the slave (secondary) drive. Hopefully, later versions of this drive will come with an updated firmware that fixes the problem. You can tell if your firmware has that bug by using the ''dmesg'' program and looking for this error, ''hdX: host side 80-wire cable detection failed, limiting max speed to UDMA33''

GREAT. I have a Gateway E-4000. Great computer, It was top of the line 10 years ago. 2.5ghz process. 500gb hard drive. 2 gb of memory. I put the Dvd player in after the computer got hit by lighting and my old CDrom got fried. and the computer recognized it right away. I didnt even have to add the softwear. It played DVD's great. After a while I installed the softwear so that I would not have any problems later.

Real easy to install. Very straight forward, works great, don't expect to have any problems. Tigrer Direct is absulutely one of the best companys that you can deal with. A week later, and I have just ordered a WD 750 G Hard Drive, plus case w/cooling fan for the HD. Best prices that I could find, plus they have a very helpfull and willing staff to help anwser any questions that you might have before, or after purchase.

Great DVD burner. Works as expected with no complaints. Nero 7 essentials is useless. I would have been happier with just the driver software without all the Nero junk. It is packed with trial versions of it's software that suck the resources out of my PC. It won't even play a DVD out of the box (no sound). You have to buy the working version of the software separately.

Great unit, easy to install. Just watch the DVD's u buy to ensure you are getting the right surface for LightScribe.
