Disregard the review by ''Alex''. This ups just like all APC brand ups's work perfectly under linux and windows. Like most Ubuntu users ''Alex'' is just ignorant and does not know how to install software under linux. In addition to the many features included in the windows software the linux package also provides a web based gui which allows you to monitor the status/charge/etc of the ups remotely. Honestly, this couldn't be a better deal!

Very good product, the only issue is the control software only works on Windows. I am using it on my Ubuntu software and cannot take advantage of the graceful shutdown in case of a power outage.

I built a Windows Home Server and wanted to put it on a UPS. There is a Windows Home Server add-in called Grid Junction that allows you to view UPS status in the server console. This UPS worked with that add-in, no problem.

APC uses a proprietary connector to connect USB. It appears similar to a standard RJ-45 ethernet connector, with the inclusion of 2 additional pins, and a tab on one side. This connector is used with the included USB cable, or the optional serial cable. The signaling is there if someone actually needs it. I own two other APC units that are approximately three to four years old, and they are still working great today.

We had a lightning storm yesterday the UPS was hit and my laptop monitor and printer were not effected the UPS is fried but for $50 bucks I could care less saved me an insurance claim and all my valuable info. Does the job !

The description says that there is a USB port but I don't see one on the pictures. Was that a type-o on description or am I just blind? I like the look and love the price, but i really need that USB port. Thank you to whoever replies.

Very fast delivery even to 60 miles from no where. I had the 350 before and the battery quit on me so I upgraded to 550 and it works great, kept my computer running for 5 min last power outage and then automatically shut it off because I was not home.

Worked great for over 3 years till my wife pluggedin a 700 watt Hair Dryer into it! Dohh.. Guess it's time for a new one.
