It's a floppy drive Its poorly made, the eject button doesn't function properly. It requires forever to copy files to it, and it erases files for some other cause. I wouldn't be this but its so tough to discover a floppy disk drive I went ahead and settled.

Performs extremely nicely for loading up drivers when putting in OS's and making the occasional boot/emergency disk. Packaging is quite fantastic, comes with mini-cd for drivers and directions if you want them. Looks great and seems nicely made. No free of charge shipping?

It operates - detected in the course of set up of Windows XP. Kind of cheap construction, but this was a (hopefully) one particular time use. Decided to move back to XP from Vista on a process that had no floppy. Windows XP detects and uses this drive fine through the installation. I have no idea how long the drive will last, but I just required it as a one particular time use.

Tiny, Light, USBReads 1.44 Floppys as expected. Can't think of any, as I haven't had any concerns with it. If you don't have a built in floppy drive and require access to some old floppy's, it does the job effectively.

Reasonably low-cost, modest, no driver essential. The eject mechanism on my unit doesn't operate so the initial disk I place in there is now stuck forever. Certainly very cheaply built. According to other reviews this drive works for loading F6 drivers in Windows XP setup, which is all I need. For such light-duty work, this drive is a superior option. If you use floppies often I would recommend looking newegg for a larger-top quality drive.

Technically it worked When I booted into Windows XP setup and hit "F6" to load raid drivers, it loaded them with out a problem. I selected my Raid'ed drive to install windows on and it went to the "Copying Setup Files" stage. It just hung there attempting to copy the raid drivers from the floppy drive. Immediately after 5 minutes it would say the file was corrupt. This kept me from working with a mirrored raid on my new method. Fully nullified the further terabyte tricky drive I purchased. Worked fine within windows. Just not in the course of setup.

Reads nicely when floppy disk is formatted properly. Relatively swift for a USB floppy (floppy's are notoriously slow, and you'd feel it may well be compounded by the USB interface, but it is not). Does what it's supposed to do... for the most element. If your floppy disks aren't formatted appropriately, it may possibly say that you require to format the disk. I've had no good results formatting the disks using this floppy drive, but formatting on a different computer yields a floppy that is wonderfully effortless to work with, and won't fail, The moment IT'S FORMATTED Adequately. The only purpose it's finding a four rather of a 5 is that I can't seem to format with this drive. Start out -> Run... -> cmd <ENTER>variety: format a: <ENTER>adhere to the prompts. It may work with this drive, and it could not. I've utilised one more personal computer to format a quantity of floppy disks, and immediately after formatting, they work perfectly fine, from pc to computer system. (If you keep in mind, guys, there was this issue back in the days of floppy dominance, as well. It's nothing new, just unexpected, what with the reliability of flash memory, and so forth.)I use this in conjunction with a Tajima embroidery machine, for transportation of files, and it operates wonderfully, when the disks are formatted properly.

newegg fast shipping, and good on the refund. from the very begin trying to read a floppy i would get "this disk is not formatted" error in winxp, but the disk was formatted and would operate fine on any other computer. I could get around it by rebooting the computer with the bytecc usb hooked up but this only worked possibly 5 occasions until it wouldn't eject the floppy and then I could hear loose material in the bytecc drive. been employing a sony usb floppy reader which has been dependable.

XP Picks up the floppy drive correct away without having loading any drivers. As well bad it won't read a 720k floppy. The drive doesn't seem as flimsy as other comments say. It feels solid. Perhaps its a newer model now.The cable is lengthy adequate to put the drive on best of your pc situation, when plugged in. We need floppy drives due to the truth that we use some significant machinery in our shop that needs program files. The machines are not networked and the files have to be input into the machines employing a 720k floppy. The vendor claims that this drive supports 720k but when I try to read a 720k floppy it desires to format it. Also when I try to format a 720k floppy I get an error, "Parameters Not Supported By Drive" and I'm utilizing the same parameters that function on XP with an internal floppy drive. Some of the new motherboards don't have the ribbion cable connector for the floppy drive, which is why we bought this external floppy drive.

Works fantastic soon after being fixed by me. Mine had a Teac drive inside. I've had excellent luck with Teac in the past. Low-cost Arrived DOA. Plain case distinct than pictured.I didn't really feel like sending it back as low-cost as it was so I opened it to check if the USB interface would possibly operate on an additional drive for me and identified that the USB interface board was loose and could ground out on the actual drive. I wrapped it in tape made positive the connectors had been seated effectively and it operates ideal now. There is 1 screw beneath the QC sticker to get rid of to open the case. I have an additional USB FDD from Dell that's a NEC and has the same case that's in the picture it has been flawless. I bought this to disassemble and use an internal USB drive with a new motherboard that doesn't help floppies. I however have to be able to save to floppies to load an old machine.
