I have two of these in the workplace and they both work wonderful for what they are employed for. I wouldnt go employing it as a high volume machine although. For the price you cant go wrong for a great brandname wireless printer. I have had issues printer specific sized labels on it and sometiems decides to do a manual feed on certain jobs. I assume it just may be the users personal computer though and not the printer but figured I would mention this.

About 2500 pages on the high capacity toner, quiet, uncomplicated-to-use, wireless. None so far. The wireless was rather straightforward to set up. It's nice to print whatever from wherever.

Combo Fax/Scan(color)/Copy. Laser B&W at 21 ppm: lives up to expectation. Uncomplicated WiFi setup, Win7 driver install and sharing setup was automatic and smooth. Fairly big sized printer, but durably constructed and produced with durability in mind. Only ships with a 1K sheet starter cartridge of toner. Decent printer at a decent value. No far more waiting tons of minutes for an inkjet to finish.

I was able to set this up and use ad-hoc networking (i.e. no router) with a laptop which was 1 of the points I was seeking for. It can run its own wifi network with a WEP important. The scanner and copier functionality worked on initially try; haven't tried fax. Haven't run into any difficulties.

Great printing results, functions fine as a fax, and basically all the capabilities function and are at least theoretically supported on Mac OS. Don't expect to scan an ordinary text document to PDF on a Mac and be able to read the results unless you crank up the resolution and file size to five-10 megabytes per page. Which then isn't going to be emailable. If you want a reasonable file size, it will do that, but then the results will be all soft and fuzzy like you produced a very compressed JPEG of a text file. I don't hear these complaints from Windows users of this model, so I guess it's just half-baked Mac drivers. Yes, it makes the lights flicker like crazy pretty a lot anywhere you put it in. It also makes any UPSes on the identical circuit go on battery for a few seconds whenever it fires up from cold for a print job. The HP Laserjet 1020 this unit replaced didn't trigger either of those difficulties.Display is a little smaller. User interface- menu layouts, and so on., are subpar. Mac software, drivers, etc., are also subpar. Almost everything is awkward and counterintuitive.

Excellent multifunction machine! It was quite easy to setup on my wireless network. We use in this machine in a tiny four person office for printing, scanning, copying and light faxing. The included OCR has saved us so quite a few hours of work. This machine has made going green so effortless. The manual feed tray only holds 1 piece of paper.

The printer and accompanying software program all set up and worked the first time. Scanning, printing, faxing have all been fast with great excellent. This is the initial printer I've owned (my 5th!) that I definitely like. - It took a bit of fiddling to get wireless N connectivity working. Out of the two encryption protocols, I had to pick the 2nd one. The error messages on the printer's display didn't lead me to the answer. I had to just keep attempting various settings until I stumbled onto the correct ones.- The initial toner cartridge was extremely low yield. It lost its wireless connection to my router following the 1st day, but has been rock solid (never dropped connection) ever considering that.

- Good top quality print outs- Wireless- Easy setup- Rapid- Works with Windows7- Wonderful manual None so far Most people today don't like manuals, but to setup this printer for wireless it'd be greater to follow the steps described in the manual. Further, I utilised some old pre-printed paper to test the unit and got some vertical streaks on the paper. The trouble shooting part of the manual dutifully explained this could take place, i.e. Brother has gone through some serious testing procedures ahead of launching their products. The advised Xerox paper that I use produces lovely printouts.

Consists of wireless and wired network connectivity, creating placement of the device significantly far more flexible in the function atmosphere. Effortless to configure the network settings directly on the device without getting to resort to software configuration. Included software program is outstanding and supports network scanning -- a function that typically fees 񘈨+ with other brands. Each PC/MAC is "seen" by the Brother MFC -- choose 'scan to image' from the Brother MFC panel and pick the laptop or computer to direct the scan to. Couldn't be simpler and works great more than wired or wirelss connection. Supports up to 1200x1200 dpi. Network faxing (send and get) that allows personalized speed dials for each and every user (via the included software program). Print from any application to the 'Brother MFC Fax' to send a fax. Print excellent is good. I own two and have had no trouble with either over 6-8 months of ownership. Toner is inexpensive and readily obtainable from a lot of sources. Device is tiny and fits anyplace. Mac & PC support. My only knock on this device is the require to replace the drum occassionally. I haven't had to do this however and the price isn't prohibitive (around ๛), but all the identical would prefer a printer that doesn't demand occassional drum replacement. Have not been able to figure out Scan to Image (network scanning) for our sole Mac in the office, but haven't attempted too difficult. I've been incredibly pleased with this printer in spite of preconceived suggestions that I had about Brother item not getting as great as other brands (based on past knowledge from 10+ years ago). This device has absolutely changed my attitude about the Brother brand in a positive direction. My workplace staff of 15 people believe the device is "cute" due to its tiny (but impressively featured) size and have commented on how nice it is to use. It very price successfully replaced a dedicated PC/Scanner that we used in the workplace for scanning and added network faxing, a function we could in no way afford in the past. Plus, it works wonderful as a printing workhorse.

Does every little thingEffortless to configure wirelessGood top quality A little pricey, but it's a Brother. I purchased this to replace my separate fax and printer machines which took up too considerably space. The printer was straightforward to configure and works flawlessly. Wireless network configuration was easy and intuitive. It took me less than five minutes to set up every thing and get it running. The hardest portion was peeling all the packing tape off the numerous components.

Quick warm up, quick printing, merely outstanding scanning, very good copier. All in all, very best printer I've ever had. I've been using computers since 1980 and had an early Brother dot matrix printer that was a workhorse, but got away from it since in those non Windows days, each computer software had printer definitions and most didn't include Brother. Due to the fact then, I've mostly utilised HP LaserJets, but this MFC-7840W works better than any of 'em. Original toner cartridge didn't last really lengthy until low toner light, but I learned the trick of covering up the holes on the side of the cartridge and it's still printing. How lengthy it lasts now remains to be observed.

Reasonably priced (Paid 超 last June, The cost now is 跁... Who's greater than me?)Really TrustworthyEffortless to Use and SetupFeature-PackedExpense per page is phenomenal when compared to my prior inkjets which would clog up, dry up, give random ink-tank-full (planned obsolescence) errors The only con I could feel of is the reality that to print pictures/color documents, you require a separate color inkjet. Although this is to be expected, following making use of this laser, I will Never ever buy another inkjet again... You get utilised to printing in black and white only. I originally had the printer connected to all of my computers by way of Ethernet, but I identified that scanning to my key desktop machine (most essential PC) was far too slow. I connected a USB 2. cable to the personal computer IN ADDITION TO the already-connected Ethernet, reinstalled the software, and now I have rapidly scanning, though also maintaining the ethernet connection to the other computers. The printer can be connected by all 3 strategies, ethernet, wireless and USB, all SIMULTANEOUSLY! Now that's cool...Cleaning the corona wire (Basically like zipping a zip-lock bag shut) is the only maintenance that I've had to do...

Every little thing it does, it does wonderful.I appreciate the way it scans your papers to its memory so it can very easily fax or copy factors. None so far At first attempt i tried to make a text copy of 5 pages and was upset due to the fact this printer spit out 5 pages in 1 to three seconds.Believing it was failing once more like my old printer i went to reinsert the blank pages again just only to see their other side of it was already printed perfectly. So in other words i was shocked to see this machine copy and print so fast! My old printer would have taken 3 tries and over 5 minutes for five pages. This factor is a beast and would have paid 踰 for this thing.

Nicely priced, easy to set up, good speed and print excellent. Lacks duplex. I purchased this printer right after excellent expertise with an additional wireless Brother item, the HL-2170W printer. This multi-function device makes use of the similar cartridges as my printer and the copying and scanning modes function actually properly. The auto-document feed works fine. Wireless setup is even less difficult than the 2170W. I read a number of critiques on one more website exactly where individuals had been griping about the supplied scanning software. For me, it works fine and does a excellent job of scanning to pdf. The included OCR program also worked nicely on the single job I tried. Yes, the functionality is somewhat restricted but these programs are still superb for the price (i.e., absolutely nothing). All around, this MFC is a winner and is easy to suggest.

Very good excellent printer, the wireless is Good, I like the auto document feeder - excellent flexibility in drivers! either just the print driver, or the whole suite, or any other piece of the software. None really - got it low-cost through a special on newegg, and that's generally the downside of laser printers. I have it on a 15 amp circuit with a lot of other points (including two computers and five lights) and whenever it prints, the lights dim momentarily, but what do you expect? I've heard that Brother brand liquid-ink printers can dry up and stop working without having use (because the print heads are portion of the printer, not the cartridge), although I've NOT skilled this First HAND. Laser printers should not have this potential vulnerability (thanks to the ink already being dry), and I'm hoping that assumption holds accurate with my obtain.

Great functionality; comparatively uncomplicated network setup. Software processes take a LOT of RAM; at least 40-45 MB even whilst idle. Installation of the driver/software package increased program start-up/wake-up time considerably. Effortless to navigate menus. Fairly non-intrusive default computer software installation. Solid scan excellent, not what you'll want for expert graphics work, but acceptable for most every thing else. Superior print good quality. Makes quick, crisp copies. Advertised as WPA2 compatable. It is not. Was forced to change my router's settings to support WPA and WPA2 (rather than only WPA2) before it would connect. Given the difference in successful security between WPA and WPA2 I locate this unaccaptable (and hence the rating). Overall a solid multi-function unit. Nonetheless, if you're needing wireless functionality I would maintain searching for a printer that actually does support WPA2. If you're not needing wireless, regard this as a five-star non-wireless printer.

Fast printing, good excellent, and the toner lasts way far more than the listed quantity. Document feeder is nice for quicker scanning. Very good scan high quality. Wireless is incredibly nice for simple printer networking. Easily spending half the cost for ink vs an inkjet printer. Greater resolution scanning is slow. Document feeder scanning can make the images noticeably crooked, but producing sure the guides are tighter-fitting helps. Wireless scanning is a bit slower than a direct USB connection. The printer WILL FALSELY REPORT that the toner requirements to be changed!! See below for how to get around this! This has been a fantastic printer for the past couple of months! If you black out the toner window (the round clear window on the right side of the toner and the drum unit) with black tape, you can quickly get twice the amount of pages printed. I got well over 2,500 pages on the toner that is included with the printer!!! Fundamentally I paid for the printer in price savings over what I would have spent on inkjet cartridges!! I could have gone longer, but some of the a lot more detailed print jobs with thin lines were starting to fade. The printer told me to change out the toner somewhere around 1,000 pages =/For quicker scanning, use a lower resolution/dpi setting. Utilizing grayscale or black and white settings also speed points up. I hooked my printer to my laptop or computer with a 14' USB cable and that appears to have sped up both normal printing and scanning. The other computers in the office are connected to the printer wirelessly, which is really convenient.

Rapidly startup, super uncomplicated WIFI connection, good copies, smaller in size (compared to others in its class) No color.. not definitely a con if you don't use it for that, drivers for windows 7 the cd does not work, keep an eye out for toner costs.. they tend to vary. If you maintain an eye out for sales on newegg, you can get a killer cost! 179$ shipped !!!! Thanks newegg!

Slick multifunction; Linux compatible
Comment:
I'm a Linux user, so this is a Linux review. Brother has Linux drivers for this printer. On one hand, the driver installation is command-line based, which I don't like. I guess they assume that since most Linux users are hacker-types, they wouldn't bother with a GUI installer. On the other hand, once I got it installed, the MFC works flawlessly, including even wireless scanning. I love the wireless printing and scanning--bye-bye cables! The build and operation is very smooth in my first few weeks of operation. I love the wireless ability, the automatic document feeder, and the speed of operation (including rapid start up and printing). The only downside (other than the command-line driver installation in Linux) is that the manual paper feeder can only take one page at a time, which is a royal pain, as I frequently like to print with one-sided scrap paper.
