To be fair it's a fantastic looking unit. Good lengthy effectively sleeved cables and the fan is nice and quiet...or possibly I just can't hear it over the insanely high pitched whine it emits beneath the lightest of loads. It's so high pitched it gave me a headache. I RMA'd the 1st and have requested a refund for the second (and I'm specific newegg will take care of me) Corsair's are great power supplies; one particular of the very best imo - except the builder series. Avoid this shoddily manufactured junk like the plague. In spite of Corsairs superb reputation and history of making phenomenal merchandise the builder series is plagued with manufacturing inconsistencies. Verify about the web and verify for yourself. If you get a very good a single I collect it's a wonderful PSU..if you get a poor 1 it tends to make a high pitched whine that will drive you crazy below the lightest of loads. Shoddy parts / poor QC pretty a lot tell the story of the builder series. Manufacturer Response:Our internal failure rates and feedback from resellers does not reflect the identical difficulties that you are alluding to. We'd like to help you and make certain that you are a satisfied buyer so please speak to us. Also, hold in thoughts that there are 2 reasons you'll see a lot of failures online. 1. People with difficulties post in forums etc. Folks without having concerns typically do not. two. This is a Very well-known unit so the odds of seeing much more people today are quite excellent.External Link(s): Corsair Make contact with Page|

It functions, for now, and I plan on replacing it in a couple much more weeks anyway. For an emergency purchase simply because it was on sale, I don't thoughts becoming burned. It might as properly be a scented candle. Below half draw the issue is just fine. Around 350 watts, the thing starts fumigating the spot as it marinates in it's personal juices. What would it do if I really drew the complete 500 watts? I don't want to know. If you only will need 300 watts, it operates just fine. It's near silent, which makes sense as it moves virtually no air with the fan that crawls along at a ridiculously slow speed even even though it bakes itself. At about 120F, it wont Manufacturer Response:If you are getting an odor from the PSU we advise to not use it all and to RMA it. We are really sorry you had this issue and we'll replace it for you.External Link(s): Corsair RMA Link|

Feels strong, weighs a small a lot more than the C****r M****r that it replaced, even though the other has a 650W rating. And THAT one wasn't a negative supply, either! PFC and reasonably high efficiency, as well? Don't have the test equipment to do proper measurements, but judging by the temperature and fan speed, it stays effective over a fairly wide energy band. (Some HE units are only HE at precisely "X" watts and fall off above or below that point.) 3.three and 12 volts rails are properly within 1%. Plenty of connections, also. Had to kill seven trees to make an owner's manual, but it has no description of what PFC is or why you will need it. Mail in rebate. (I'd a lot rather have a coupon for my next buy. And oh, yeah, I will be getting far more of this series) Resistive loads, like incandescent lamps, take voltage and current at the identical time. If you monitor the power line cycle, they're both a nice smooth curve. Inductive or capacitive loads, like energy supplies and motors take voltage and existing at diverse instances. The outcome is that they appear to take much more existing (power is voltage×current), but the circuit passes it back. Energy element is the ratio of the apparent energy to accurate power. For house use, a poor power factor mainly causes noise on the lines. Not enough space here for a full lesson, but you can Bing/Google it if you're interested.

Worked out of the box. Quite fan. Operating solidly for just over a month now. Emits a pulsing, dog-whistle-high noise when the supply is plugged in and off. It's not that loud, but it's annoying adequate to have to unplug the provide when it's not in use, which is moreover annoying. I read on the 430CX feedback page that persons had been possessing the same issue with that provide. There ought to be a batch of microphonic capacitors that found their way into the CX series. Next time I'll go with a TX series or one more manufacturer.

Tons of connectors, wonderful price tag, Corsair high quality. More than sufficient energy for a light gaming program, definitely sufficient for a web surfer/word processor/media Pc. Not modualr? This is about as "low" powered of a energy supply that I'd ever use in a process I built. I've learned the difficult way more than the years not to get the ฤ no name brand power supplies or use the 300w ones that come in ฮ budget cases. Till they give me a purpose not to, I will often use Corsair. Clearly there will generally be duds but not this 1 and not the 650w unit in my gaming process. You do have to get inventive to hide the wires that come with this one particular but it ought to't be a problem at all. I have this one in a Micro case and I hid all the wires just fine. I have this unit powering a standard process for my wife:Dual Core Phenom II three.two GHZ 80wGigabyte Micro ATX Mobo using onboard video/sound4 GHZ Mushkin 1066 RAMSamsung 1TB 7200RPM HDSony IDE DVD-RW Lots of power for this setup...

Dependable, quiet, and effective. N/A I bought this power supply for my Windows machine after a deficiency in one more power provide offered by a nearby dealer. I've had totally no complications with this what-so-ever, and I've lately purchased an additional unit for my linux machine. Surely worth the funds, and both machines are operating cooler than ever just before.

Quiet, very good seeking, name brand, adequate power for most computers-even with a newer graphics card. For the cost I feel like Corsair should have gone ahead and given it semi-modular cables (keep the essential rails standard but allow several to be removed if not needed) purchased it simply because i got a rebate to take the price down a bit

This PSU is affordable, quiet, good searching, and a Corsair. Even though I've heard a lot of complaints that the CX series is garbage I strongly think this is only applicable to the 430. It runs my rig.(See other thoughts.) Only 1 strand of molex 4-pin connectors.Slight whine at initially but when the it settles in it stops.Does not spend off my debt. Powers my:Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition @ three.7GTS 450 OC'd1 HDD & 1 ODDRosewill Destroyer with 5 fans.

This is a great PSU for the cost. It powers my new spending budget build with an Athlon ii x4 640 and GTX 460 without having the slightest of troubles. Doesn't have adequate four-pin connections. Soon after connecting a couple case fans and my disc drives, I don't have any 4-pin connections left. This isn't a issue now, but if I ever wanted to add say a Blu-Ray drive in the future, this could be a issue. Certainly an incredible PSU for the price!!!!

Cons:None

Pros:Price, Connections, Quiet
Comment:
I bought this PSU to replace the under powered 230W one that came with my HP desktop computer. Why computers even come with such a small PSU nowadays is beyond me. I needed a bigger PSU so I could add components that I bought to upgrade the computer and this one was PERFECT! I bought a Blu Ray Drive and a nice video card and 230W wasn't even close to recommended power for them. It's very nice because it has so many connections, including 2 for the video cards. It's very quiet, and comes with cable ties too. Very easy to install. You can get this PSU at a smoking hot price if you watch for it. Very happy with it so far.

Bought this to replace a cheap 300W PSU that came with my computer and so far have had zero problems or noticed any unusual noise. The sleeved cables keep everything tidy and easy to find, and ties coming with the PSU is icing on the cake. Very good PSU for the price for those on a budget.
