Comment:
I found the Coolmax easy to accept the Western Digital hard drive. it is a liitle warm to the touch because it has no cooling fan or fins. I am a little bit concerned about heat over the long term. So for it is okay being I USE IT ONLY TO BACKUP.

Great Product and Best Deal!
Comment:
Nice little enclosure to turn an old hard drive into an external drive. Everything worked great except I learned my hard drive was damaged! At least I know now, I can get a new hard drive and fix that computer! Great Product though!

This is what I needed, when I needed it and it worked out of the box with only a small amount of work all easily figured out. Great deal

A lot of bang for the buck
Comment:
This case is very well designed in several ways: 1. all the electronics are part of the front cover and it also forms the plug. 2. the case is aluminum and since the drive is also aluminum and securely bolts to the bottom of the case heat is radiated without a fan and it's noise. Also I like the fact it has an on-off switch and the green pilot lamp flashes red to show activity.

Good Value
Comment:
Received my 3.5 HD external HD enclosure on 02-05-2010, and installed it with my 750GB HD on 02-07-2010 on my computer. So far everything works fine, no hiccups or snags with the installation. I noticed I didn't see any installation diagram(s) with the product...but I have a pretty good understanding of where things go, since I built one of the computers I now have. This 3.5 HD enclosure is a good value for the price though, and I do recommend it. But make sure you read all the specifications, and that they are right for your computer system.

Hard to get a better product

Chinese I suppose, but don't knock the Chinese, they make astonishingly good Hi Tech products. This is no exception. Good Design, Good performance, at a rock bottom price.

great price but slower than most
Comment:
For the Price it is hard to beat, but the interface was slower than the other units I have and the limit of 1 terabyte is sad as the 1 tera and 1.5 are almost the same price. SO I took my old drive and put in in this case and bought the 1.5 tera and installed it in my seagate case, that supports the 1.5 tera

Pretty good value
Comment:
The cases are stylish and I like how the back of the unit has the connector mounted on it. Assembly is really easy. That said, I wish the power button and light was on the front. I bought three units and two work flawlessly; the other intermittently won't mount. Other than those issues, the units are a good value.

Low Quality, No Support
Comment:
This product didn't work for me. I tried it from multiple computers using a drive that works fine. I took it to a computer store, bought another enclosure and everything worked. I emailed coolmax support and they replied promptly telling me that DELL had security protection on the drive. Funny how the other enclosure didn't have a problem. $15 wasted. Buy a better version from another manufacture. At minimum, look at coolmax's website at the support section. Once it doesn't work, getting help is hopeless.

Runs hot
Comment:
Easy to install, and simple to put together. Make sure you run the drive while on edge, because the tight fit makes the enclosure run hot.

Two out of two DOA
Comment:
I recently purchased this along with a Western Digital internal hard drive to use as a backup system for my laptop. The system did not work. After 2 months of trying to get a working hard drive, I realized that the hard drive was working along - and the problem had been the enclosure. (Note: during this time, my hard drive crashed and I lost all of my data). Once I contacted them, Coolmax promptly issued me an RMA. About three weeks later I received the replacement - also DOA. (The first time it was the encasement itself, this time it's the power adapter that comes with it). Hopefully the third one will be better than the first two!

Works perfect
Comment:
Wanted the cheapest enclosure I could buy. Paid $14.99 to enclose a 1T hard drive of family photos. Eight of us have passed it between households with no poroblem. Plug it in, the computer recognizes it, and you're done. What else could I possibly want.

Get What You Pay For
Comment:
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that the cheapest enclosure offered is very low quality. It does the job, but barely- shoddily built, the screws wouldn't fit neatly and stripped easily, etc. I should reiterate that, despite all of this, it does work..

They redesigned and they are cheap DO NOTBUY!
Comment:
I purchased 3 of these. I had bought several of these before and they worked great. But they redesigned them so that they have a power supply with only 12 volts not the dual 5 and 12 volt power supply that they had before. The circuit boards also had several cold solder joints. All 3 are defective and I shipped them all back for a refund.

Product does not work as represented.
Comment:
Doesn't work. I bought it to recover data from a failed pc. Tried to use it on two computers, my new one and my 5 year old laptop. Neither one could find the drive. Finally gave up and popped the old drive into the new pc and am drawing the files off that way. I intended to format and use the old one as a backup. Not possible. And now it's too late to return it. Very disappointed.

Fantastic product!
Comment:
This is a stripped-down, no-frills hard drive enclosure - EXACTLY what I was looking for. It's cheap and does everything I wanted it to do without extra features, buttons, or other nonsense. It's just a great, small, sturdy case. Easy to assemble (they even provide a tiny screwdriver!), and then plug-and-play operation. If you don't want all the bells and whistles of the other cases on the market, get this one! You'll pay less and get a GREAT product!

Good value for the price
Comment:
I purchased this at the end of July. It is generally hot all the time in use. The only time it has become too hot to touch was during a slow format. I eventually used it for the usb loader on the wii (and it is easily detected every time). On several occasions, I have left it on all day/night, and it does not get too hot to touch. Works great so far.
