Coolmax HD-389-U2 3.5 External Hard Drive Enclosure - SATA to USB 2.0

Comment:
It died after a week of working. It still powered up, but something in the SATA connection must have gone bad. The computer would find the drive that I had been using, and tell me that it needed formatted. I switched to an older USB connection, and the drive worked fine and all data was still there. Maybe the thing got too hot. I also had a 1.5 Tb drive in it, which may have been too much for some reason.

This is a great enclosure, but unless you're just using it to connect to a computer it doesn't like to work well. It doesn't like macs and it won't connect at all to an xbox 360. Over all for the price, it does what I need it to do.

I plugged in the hard drive and the computer recognized it. The only problem was that I had to format the hard drive, which should have been a little window pop up, but nope! So, I had to do some research. But, a great cheap one!

The control electronics on my WD MyBook 500 MB drive failed. I purchased this as a replacement enclosure. It works well. I especially like the exterior on/off switch.

I wanted to easily transfer the hard drive from my old machine and found this to be a very good solution. Everything needed comes with the enclosure - cable, power adapter, screws and even a little screw driver. I don't keep it running as an additional drive, but have used it as a back-up drive after getting off what I needed.

These enclosures are slim, easy to set up, and their look isn't too bad. Looking forward to buying more of these if I get more external drives.

Shipped without any backup software, this is a low cost, no frills solution to my backup needs. Just what I wanted!! I use it with Retrospect Express on my XP box, Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 on my Vista box. Great product for the money. A breeze to set up. Highly recommended for the tech-savvy. (Runs hot, so leave room for circulation around the unit.)

I was quite impressed with the HD Enclosure. Installation was very easy and even includes a Phillips-Head Screw Driver. There are no wires as the connectors are mounted right on the board. You just pop in on the Hard Drive, and slide it into the case. Screws secure it from the bottom. I was able to install an un-formatted drive into it, plug it into my Windows XP SP3 installation, and the Operating System detected it no problem. I then created a partition and formatted it. I've had others that gave me trouble, and I had to format the Hard Drive first, before I put it in the enclosure. I would definetly look to buy another one, when the time comes.

This is a great case for any spare SATA drive you have laying around. I have 250 GB WD drive that was in an old system and wasn't being used. The case is so easy to hook everything up, and takes no more then 5 minutes. Hook up the power cable and the USB cable and your computer sees it instantly. The case does get hot but thats good since it is taking the heat away from the HD. Recommend it to everybody who has a need.

came with all the hardware (screws & even a little screwdriver!), and necessary cables. SATA drive fits nicely in the case. not noisy. plain and simple. does the job at a good price. would like to see eSata cnx, but not a deal breaker.

I bought this enclosure to salvage the hard drive from my old iMac G5 that had recently stopped working. I put the drive in the enclosure and hooked it up to my new computer and I immediately had access to all my old files and now I have an external hard drive. It does run a little warm but it does not seem to be a problem. The enclosure comes with everything you need, power supply, USB cable, and even a screw driver.

Very simple to install. Came with the screwdriver to open the case and secure the hard drive with the included screws. Would have preferred wires on back, power switch on front, but its all there.

I have researched dozens of SATA external cases for resale and have found the CoolMax to be the best cost/benefit solution out there. I like the design of no wires to the disk drive; it simply has a direct connect SATA data/power edge connector directly off of the logic board. No wires means fewer problems and better uptime. Huge boost to my bottom line. Thanks!

It's a great enclosure, especially for the money. It would have been better if there were a power switch, and if the power/status LED were on the front. Overall works with 1TB Hitachi drive.

The price was right for the drive. No one in the local area had a better price. I was concerned about the fragile connections to the drive once I started the assembly, but everything works well.

The Coolmax was an emergency purchase to salvage a vital hard drive from my very dead primary machine. It doesn't have the bells and whistles (or should I say extra ports, firewire option, or fan) of more expensive enclosures but it is solidly made, ships with the only tool you need (small screwdriver), and is easy to use. I would be happier if the status LED were on the other side. Inexperienced users may be puzzled by the lack of installation directions, but things only fit together one way and it is easy to figure out. I feel like a got a good solid product at a very good price, even with expedited shipping, it beat local prices.

Exceptional for its purpose. If youre low on budget this is a fantastic product. The power plug is a major design flaw - the power adapter would remind you of an s-video connection, many pins to line up AND pins that are able to bend.
