affordable with the rebate, DDR5, Operates just fine in Ubuntu 9.10 using most up-to-date drivers strait from Nvidia web internet site with a manual install. The big fan in fact seems to make much less noise then the GT220 card with smaller fan this card replaced. 512MB, a bit wide with the large fan, loosing your slot next to your PCI-E all of which doesn't bother me. If operating Ubuntu 9.10 get a GT240 or more unless your performing an HTPC, with the desktop effects enabled+ watching an HD movie and so on just a lot superior. Download the Nvidia drivers strait from web internet site and manually install, ubuntus auto install third party drivers are older and Ought to be removed before performing a manual install. Unless they operate fine for you then no require to do any of this. my 64 bit driver file name is utilised for Instance ONLY. Please be cautious in making confident you use the right driver or you may well be in trouble. Keep in mind this Ought to be performed everytime a kernel update is performed. place the downloaded linux driver in your household directory. Start off a terminal windowsudo /etc/init.d/gdm quitenter your password (this will quit your Gnome desktop environment)log into your program with the command line that comes up then:chmod 777 NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.15-pkg2.runsudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.15-pkg2.run(follow the install screen options)the moment accomplished: sudo reboot (restarts your pc, just what i do) or sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start out then your done, and can select VDPAU output in your vid

96 Shaders tends to make this a good add on CUDA or Physx card or an HTPC card for post processing. Also this is one of the couple of cards out there at present that can accelerate in hardware Blu-Ray 3D. Note: The GTX200 series of cards can also display this, but it is not hardware accelerated. Pricing prior to rebates or specials are a bit high for the overall performance of this card, which is not really a gaming card with only 8 ROP's. That is unless you have a little monitor or are playing older games, such as the supply games. I got this with a rebate, and at 30 dollars, I believe you'd be difficult pressed to find a superior HTPC card on the marketplace nowadays.

This card seems to deal with what I'm throwing at it (modest game play by way of Steam) with out a hitch. Given that I need to have to place some thing here, the only con I can consider of is the shipping box came with packing peanuts as an alternative of bubble wrap. Cotton candy is yummy.

Impressive specs. Great performance in a Win XP SP3 Computer. Numerous random BSODs with TDRs, in a Win 7 32 bit Pc. Quit code 0x00000116. Considerable loss of valuable data, however most of the information is getting replaced with data from other PCs on the House LAN. This video card was initially purchased just for this Win 7 Computer, not as an unplanned modest upgrade for the Win XP Computer. PS and memory timing not an problem. Utilized the most up-to-date Win 7 Nvidia driver. No overclocking attempted. A not too long ago purchased ATI Radeon HD4670, also obtained from Newegg, seems to function just fine in this exact same Win 7 Computer. Stable, no concerns.

This is a wonderful card. I bought it to upgrade my most current acquire back in December of the GT 9800 Nvidia Card. none so far. *just as a reminder, I would usually uninstall any old drivers, specifically any drivers that deal with On-board Video cards. At times, depending the item and company of the card. I would usually go to the Nvidia Net-site and download the most current drivers. Also it could rely on the business's motherboard installed on the desktops they generate. I have encountered some desktops still demand for the On-board graphics card to be enabled. Yet another reminder is be incredibly cautious about AMD or Intel boards with ATI on-board Graphics cards....this has also been an problem and why you would need to uninstall that certain Graphics card drivers and disable it so that no conflicts occur. Lastly, when you have a prebuilt desktop from companies such as HP, Dell, or Gateway....generally double examine the specs of your personal computer, particularly these with on-board motherboards. If it is an ATI on-board graphics....you may possibly want to uninstall your graphics drivers, verify your registry, and so on...

I'm not a gamer so this card offers me a lot much more efficiency than I need to have. Was in a position to play old Age of empires 3 on every little thing max 1920x1080 without any troubles.Doesn't demand additional energy connector which is not a concern for me anyway, I have a lot readily available on my PSU. Fan is particularly noisy. Thankfully, upon loading Windows the fan goes down drastically, otherwise I wouldn't be in a position to use the card with such a noise.Takes up two slots - as well much for a so-so card. My buddy has 9800GT which is more quickly, quiet, and requires up one slot. Got this only due to the fact it price me ฽ with combo discount and rebate. I wouldn't obtain it for ๠, you are greater off with good old 9800GT.

Cames in a day right after acquire, newegg shipping is usually super rapid. Card operates fine, I borrowed an ATI 5850 1G, when play burn zombie burn game it pops out an error, with this card it become playable. it is loud. when complete speed, the fan noise is okay. but when idle, the noise level didn't appear to turn down at all. I wonder if there is a fan speed control? don't like the noise. but still Gigabyte is trustworthy.

Sped up all my games 512MB, 1GB would have been sweet.I see some people today have difficulties with Nvidia and Dell. I've had those kinds of difficulties just before with other cards (Nvidia as nicely and with both Dell and others). So to help these people out, there's a trick you can do with your Dell. I googled this a long time ago and it operates, but it's somewhat lame. (See other thoughts) This is ONLY for DellɅ. Enable your onboard video. Yep, that's what I stated, allow it.2. Insert card, card will be detected. Install drivers for it.three. In XP/Vista/W7 select the new card as your primary display, and disable your current display. This will demand you to juggle monitor cables like a monkey, or if you have two monitors, you're all set.Make sure when you reboot, you only have the monitor/lcd plugged into the new card. The downside is that you won't see the bios screen, nor the windows loading screen until the login screen appears. Also, there's a likelihood those settings could get forgotten or if you need to have to get into protected mode you'll require to connect back to the onboard video. If you have onboard video and not a dell, well, attempt a variation of this. I had a comparable problem with an HP..

I've had this now for two months and produced a few adjustments- I've in no way overclocked a GPu prior to this one, so i had some difficulty figuring out why i would get some weird screen flickering throughout video tension tests and factors like 3dmark06. I changed my overclock to make it Considerably much more stable, it's best for the last two weeks at 620/ (whatever the shader is, don't unlock it from the core clock), and 1800 memory clock. just utilised evga precision to make all that take place. I keep the fan at 100% since i hear a weird electrical noise when it's on anything other than 100%. fan is weird, when i set it to something amongst 40-99%, it sounds like it's running at the very same speed. The fan also tends to make an electrical noise, extremely high pitched, anytime it's set among automobile and 100%. i still like this card and it works wonderful. scored 11500 on 3dmark06, but i have a relatively new computer. windows experience of 6.9. hits 90FPS on starcraft two. amd 965 BE @ four.4gb g.skill pc12800 @ eight-9-8-24Gigabyte GMT-785-UD2H mobo

DDR5, solid state caps, massive fan, operates well overall, but... ... if you don't use a minimum 450w power supply, you'll get brownouts. Ran with 350w and got sudden shutdowns. Installed on a different machine with a 550w. psu - excellent. My other three machines run an XFX 240 GT card, which carry out to spec on a minimum of a 350w. psu. Just use common sense. If you're a heavy gamer or running a 40" + 1080 screen, get a gig of memory. 512 is fine for much less demand.

Graphics are fine,, definetely, and upgrade over onboard video for final years motherboards.79.99 + ฮ mail in rebate. Can\'t beat the value. but efficiency is not what I expected. Video hangs Often, and I do not see any elevated performance more than the 9500GT 512MB I replaced with it. I'm returning it for a REFUND. I tried to get low-cost, and you get what you spend for. Don't waste your funds, save a bit and get a actual card or stand pat.

Got this when I saw a rebate offer putting the overall price tag at ื.99 soon after rebate. This GDDR5 version of the GT240 was rated as a ideal value by Tom's Hardware and the card is outstanding. Exceptional performance with mid-level games and HTPC operation Cooler is loud and bulky. Put a Zalman VNF100 (w/arctic silver) on this card and its operating out wonderful! Idle temp 55c and at load creeps up to 95c. Also I have this in a Silverstone GD05 case, so every thing is really tight.

I was seriously worried about the noise challenge given that I read numerous comments about it. Nevertheless, I barely hear anything. Better than my 8400GT Fan is soooo noisy. Even BIOS update did absolutely nothing to lower noise Unfortunately, I am restricted on VID possibilities as my three y/o PSU of 650E dose not have 22Amp rails. I am so glad that my next create will allow me to use the new Intels with On-dye GPU and then less worry about fan noise or how new my PSU is. Bye-bye to NVIDIA and ATI

Very good graphics power, no external power needed, functions perfectly with Linux Mint 9 (and for that reason Ubuntu) utilizing proprietary NVidia drivers. Big 80mm cooling fan is quiet throughout regular usage, and spins slower than smaller fans, which ought to result in it lasting longer. Fan spins at full speed when you commence up the laptop or computer, generating it fairly noisy (it slows down as soon as the OS loads though). Thickness of card blocks expansion slot promptly to the left of it. No complaints with this card...it does precisely what I want it to do. Worked excellent out of the box with Linux Mint 9 and it's built-in open supply NVidia drivers, but they didn't manage the fan speed. The proprietary drivers do although, so use those.
