I used this cable to connect an HP LaserJet 4000 to a newer computer system (Windows XP Pro)without a Parallel port. The drivers were currently installed mainly because the printer used to be setup on as a network printer via IP address. I connected the cable, Windows recognized the new device, setup and installed the printer automatically. I've printed many hundred pages with no any concerns. So far, excellent product! Really should have been black in color... I didn't discover the lenght on NewEgg but for these of you acquiring, it's 6 feet. Driverless installation, it just operates...thats all everyone demands to know about this item. None The cable length is about 6 or 7 feet.Make positive your device functions with the OS you plan on working with it with *before* you get this...I was trying to convert an LPT receipt to USB, it would have worked except I had no driver to function with. I know it would have worked simply because the Generic/Text drive worked fine, but I could not specify the paper variety I necessary.

Single cable remedy. Not working and that's why I ordered Rosewill cable rather. And the Rosewill cable is not operating with my HP1100 either. I shall replace a new printer as an alternative of wasting income attempting to purchase a cable to perform with the old parallel port printer.

Didn't have to mess with any computer software, and the hardware was a easy swap from the old cord to this 1. Operates as intended. At very first the printer was spewing out random garbled ink splotches on the paper, but a restart of the laptop or computer fixed that promptly.

Less difficult than a PCI card, use older printers with newer systems, price Wouldn't function with HP 720C Ordered two of these - a single for an HP 720C and yet another for an HP laserjet. The laserjet operates fine without any configuration. I couldn't get the 720C to operate with the cable although.

Excellent cable. 6 ft extended. My printers usb port is connected to a residence print server, which my function laptop can't print to whilst connected by way of a perform VPN. I hooked this up to the parallel port on the printer to a cost-free usb port on the laptop, and the moment again I can print while on the VPN! Plugged it in, and it just plain worked. Will allow for normal printer functionallity...can duplex print with no problem. none Often annoying when the shipping cost is over half the expense of the actual item getting shipped. A big box complete of packing peanuts is almost certainly a wee bit overkill for shipping a uncomplicated cable.

So far, so fantastic. Plugged into personal computer, Windows XP quickly recognized IEEE1284 device (parallel), then proceeded to install my printer driver. None so far. I'd read nearly ALL the critiques of Newegg's USB/Parallel cable offerings, and "somehow" decided on this cable. Fortunate alternative so far. Client ordered all new computers, no parallel ports, but four actively used printers... Cables cheaper/simpler solution than PCI add-in cards. You will have the greatest luck IF YOUR PRINTER HAS BUILT IN WINDOWS DRIVERS FOR YOUR PRINTER(S). This way, you plug in the cable, it is detected, and then Windows will proceed to detect and install your printer, simply because it currently has the drivers. There is a tiny instruction booklet describing a full installation, if you have a printer for which Windows has no driver. My client further compounded the concern simply because they use an OLD DOS program which only prints to LPT1. A tiny freeware utility named DOSPrint (from andtechnologies) intercepts the LPT1 call and redirects to the designated Windows installed printer. The DOS system prints out perfectly by way of Windows, over the USB/Parallel cable to the printer. Yes!

Just bought a new Dell laptop operating Windows Vista. We wanted to nonetheless use our old hpdeskjet 940c printer, but the laptop doesn't have a parellel port.
