Received the drive in 2 days and had it installed and formatting in less than 30 minutes. No noise issues or problems installing. Formats to 931GB. This drive is truly a great value and performer.

After 3 hr full format, 931 GB available. Works fine. A little louder than my Maxtor disks. Speed matches my other SATA II disk. Ghosted my system disk, specifying a small (40GB) system partition. Booted from that okay. Then, used XP disk manager to partition remaining 900 GB.

I've been using this drive for about 1.5 months and no real complaints so far. My friend and I did some research and saw a newer 1TB drive by Hitachi also labeled 7K1000, but a different serial number. That version uses only 3 platters(compared to 5 in the drive I got) so its faster data seek time and it uses less power to spin 3 platters. We looked everywhere and could not find out if this was the newer drive or not. A little disappointed when I got the older drive, but it is still quit fast. It is on the loud side, but you get used to it pretty quick. Ended up with about 931GB of usable space after formatting.

I purchased this because of the great deal. I had some troubles installing it and ended up having to buy a SATA cable and once I got it formatted it ended up only being about 900GB which I figured but this is a great hard drive and runs very smooth. The temp is great and you can't even hear it which is even better. Great drive for the price.

I got this drive because of the great rebate offer, it worked out to about 9 cents a gig. It took a long time to format but it is fast. It has very short seek times and I have had no trouble. One thing that did concern me a little was how hot it can get. I use active smart HD monitoring software and it recorded temps up to 53 degrees Celsius. that's close to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. But it usually stays below 50 degrees C now.

I ordered 2 of these to backup music files that I store on 2 same size Seagate drives. The Seagates are failing at an alarming rate and I want to make sure not to get caught with my pants down. Having purchased 8 Hitachi 500's previously I wasn't worried about a thing. Hitachi makes a FINE drive. They run cool and quiet and store a lot of music! As always, these babies were beamed to my house in record time. Fastest shipping on the planet!

I got this drive as a gift for christmas. I guess they felt sorry for me with my lonely 40 gig running next to a graveyard of others. It supprized me from day one, being super fast and booting ubuntu in no time at all. 1TB isnt bad either. It is a little noisy but not annoyingly loud, just enough so that you know when its working. Great drive so far.
