Don't buy it!
Comment:
Died after 7 months of use. I can't get the RMA on their web site and no live support either makes this product useless. I wouldn't spend another dollar on this manufacturer again.

Don't buy this drive, no RMA available
Comment:
They have one of my drive, bought from TigerDirect, and they don't honor their warranty ... they don't have stock so .... Please be aware that you may experience a delay in receiving your replacement disk drive based on stock availability. If product is available, your replacement order will be processed within 14 working days after the receipt of your defective disk drive.

Nice Hard drive
Comment:
I got this hard drive with a new build I did around May and so far it's been working great except it is screachy which is a little bit of a bummer other wise it formated with the new Vista install have had no problems since. I am going to get another one when they come back in stock because this one is almost full already :-) And for the price I can take the screachiness LOL. Now that Win7 is out I think I will put that one on the next hard drive and see how it works maybe the screachiness will be gone :-)

Great hard drive
Comment:
I have one of these and am thinking of getting another with the current pricing. Never had a problem with mine, performs great and is relatively quiet. To the person who complained about no cd being included, this product is clearly marked OEM. That means you get the hard drive and NOTHING ELSE! Great hard drive.

Where's the software?
Comment:
It came without software to format it. My machine could not see it. I had to dig up an old Maxtor hard drive, (it's a wonder I found one that still worked). and use Maxblast software. to format it. Without a Maxtor hard drive in place, the Maxblast software wont work.

Poor Product Support
Comment:
The drive failed on first boot. Took 3 days to obtain an RMA then had to ship back to them at my expense. Been waiting for over a month for a replacement.

Working well for me
Comment:
So far this hard drive has been through several installs of Windows 7 beta and RC and is still going strong. It runs cooler than my main OS drive, which is nice. It hasn't failed me yet. Even with 3 partitions running and data being written and read from at least two of them at once, it still performs quick enough for me not to notice the load its under. I will be getting more drives from Hitachi when the time comes for more space.

great drive
Comment:
I got this today at the Markan Store; excellent drive at great price! The only downside is that it doesn't come with a Sata cable and mine wasn't pre-formated, which took me five hours to do so. Great drive

Vista 64bit couldn't see it until WD tools format
Comment:
I installed this in a 64bit Vista machine as a secondary drive. Device manager thought it was a scsi drive (other drives were recognized correctly) On a whim I put it in an external enclosure and used Western Digital tools which partitioned and formatted it correctly. Now it's correctly recognized by the machine. Seems like a good unit - but I'll stick with WD from now on to avoid nonsense like this....

Excellent drive at a competitive price
Comment:
I'm running 4 of these in 2 different builds, and they're as good as any of the other models and brands I've ever used. My experience is that Hitachi has a good mechanical reliability record. Any given drive can fail on any given day, so of course we should all be using some sort of RAID or other mirror. If I had done my shopping more carefully, I would have paid a few extra bucks for their competitor's 5900 rpm model with lower power consumption and a a bigger cache, and I suppose a little quieter. I believe I'm gonna go that way in future builds.

They are giving these away!
Comment:
I have 3 of these drives plus a 160 gig sys drive running in a chassis...have not had one problem yet! My primary use of this machine is video editing...but I still use 'some' space in my H drive for gaming! Is 8 cents per gig too much????

Have 4 already in a RAID 5, working perfectly, and actually not too hot considering. Plan to buy some more and expand the array, awesome value.

Died after 18 hours
Comment:
I've generally had good luck with drives from various vendors and decided to go for my first 1T. I connected it and let it run overnight, XP did not see the drive in the morning. After considerable testing last night, I determined the drive has failed, dead. Maybe a fluke or just my bad luck.

Little noisy at first, Quick though
Comment:
It took about 2-3 days before it started to quiet down, and its not as quiet as my old Seagate Barracudas but, its not bad. Reasonably quick. No complaints, lets see how long it lasts. Only runs about 5* warmer than the seagates @109*F loaded with only a light breeze past it.

Great Performance for a Great Price
Comment:
I purchased six of these for a total of 2.8TB to be used in a raid5 configuration. I am currenty setting up a Windows2K8 Storage Server for iSCSI mount point to support clustering for HYPER-V. The drives mounted and formated fine and have great performance. Disregard people complaing that the drives only format to 900GB. 1GB in the harddrive world is slighly less than 1GB in the ram world, always has been and probably always will be. Great drives for the price.

Skepticism deleted
Comment:
I replaced two Maxtor IDE drives with this one. OMG what a difference a drive makes! People who whine about formatted Windows "size" have obviously NOT been in computing for over a week. Drive runs COOL & QUICK! w/ Windows 7. Running through a 3 year old mobo & AMD processor. This drive has resurrected my system!

Drive Capacity Explained!
Comment:
Folks, people leaving a bad rating because they are not getting the advertised size after formatting is just plain DUMB! Since the first HD, drive capacity was always different. I could go into great detail why, but you can just Google it yourself. All storage Hard Drives, Flash Drives, etc are less after formatting. That's just like that quarter pounder with cheese. It's a quarter pound BEFORE COOKING!!!

Great Service Great Drive
Comment:
I called and ordered this drive and it was delivered the next day. I put it in an external hard drive case. I had to format it myself. I used the full format. It took 3 hours & 10 minutes. But it's working great. After format the useable space was 931.51. Would I buy this again? Yes, I would!!
