Works like it is supposed to E1 rev, havnt had any troubles with overheating or crashing. Remote works in media center even though it doesnt say that it is mce compatible. Working with dvblink for hdpvr to integrate it into media center and controlling channel modifications with firestb no native media center support

This is a great device and enables you to record HD content material from sources you usually can't. It's the only device I'm aware of offered to take advantage of the "Analog Hole" with 5.1 audio capability and it does a good job. There's been unsatisfactory effort from Hauppauge to strengthen on stability problems. Manual power cycles are required everyday to solve A/V sysnc troubles with some sat boxes. I gave two stars in hope to motivate the business to put some effort into supporting the driver development much better. Having a beta driver accessible would at least show some effort.

I'm using to archive HD shows from two D* HD-DVRs, HR20 and 21, and have had success with both 720p and 1080i as properly as DD five.1 audio. I use the newest release of Video Redo software program to edit the clips. Operating W7 HP with Quad Core 2.four processors, 3 GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon 3650HD vid card with DVI-to-HDMI to SONY HDTV. Since one of my DVR is ~ four yrs. old now, this seemed like a wonderful way to backup the HD shows stored there. I've had troubles with DD five.1 on an older, deactivated HD DVR, HR10-250. It slips out of sync at some point in the process. The other limitation is dealing with genuine-time recording. You can't do anything in the background although you're archiving, but the larger concern is if anything goes wrong, you have to begin all more than. I bought directly from Happauge, as other posters have mentioned, to make sure I had the most recent firmware. Personally, I feel the ~ 赨 price is a good value given that you could connect the device to an HD cable or satellite box and have DVR capability, with out getting to pay subscription cost to your provider or TiVo. You wouldn't have dual tuner capability, but it's nonetheless a superior value IMO. I don't regret the buy at all and would like to obtain from Happauge again, no offense intended to Newegg, with whom I'm also a happy and frequent patron.

If you are interested in High good quality digital video, and can live with quirkyness, this is a excellent resolution. I have triedevery single dvd recorder out there, from the infamous lite-on, magnavox, to phillips, and panasonic. All supplied disappointingvideo quality. With exception of panasonic. And the macrovision/drm is horrendous... can you say "sony"! Ifyou spend some time with this unit, tweak the bit rates, sound, ect... locate the correct setting depending on your inputs. It willproduces awesome digital files. Thats whats essential to me. Numerous laptop/gadets are buggy, and this is no exception. It does on the other hand do the job if you can putup with the incredibly sensitive/buggy/software. buggy software program/must find settings compatible withvideo/audio source. Not for the quickly annoyed.

It works better than I expected. The ArcSoft Total Media Extreme is incredibly effortless to use and works with out any difficulties. The unit doesn't get hot at all. The excellent of the video is as superior as the original. Challenging to think that you can record 2 hours of HD video in a dual layer DVD and play it in a blu-ray player. None I can believe of. I don't use the programming function so I can say how nicely it works.

This is the ultimate HD video recording solution: you can record freely from any source with a component video output. The quality is outstanding, all the way up to 1080p. Plus, if you have this hooked up to a digital cable box, the included software program can be set up with titantv.com to give you a good tivo-like DVR. For some reason, audio recording by means of the stereo RCA ports is incredibly quiet. There is a function in the software program particularly created to correct for this. However, using the optical audio port rather eliminates this problem absolutely. It is a bit on the costly side. But given the high quality and versatility of this thing, I feel it's properly worth the money.

Super-basic setup and usage, unbelievably low price for what it does, great audio/video top quality. Doesn't pass the signal by means of the device when not powered on, can trigger the signal to "hiccup" on occasion even when not recording. I resolved each minor problems by acquiring a ū component a/v coupler to use rather when I don't require to record. This probably isn't an selection if you're using the device as an actual PVR, but it works out fantastic if you use it occasionally like I do.

I've had mine a couple months now. Regrettably I didn't obtain from the egg simply because they were sold out. I'm not significantly for instruction manuals, so I opened the box, hooked up which wires I thought ought to go where, and was off and operating recording AVCHDs right away. My older son is incredibly specific about his Tv/video excellent and was blown away when he saw my copy of the national championship game. Virtually indistinguishable from his satellite HDdvr. Each half on a separate DVD+R D/L disc when captured at almost maximum settings. If anything, colors seem slightly 'washed out'. I suspect immediately after reading other critiques/sites that the superior seeking supplied component cables might be suspect. I'll swap mine out and see if I can determine a distinction. I would acquire a different in a minuteRoll Tide

Regardless of what some others have mentioned - it makes great recordings -IF- you use the 13.five mbs setting. Really easy to set up. You DO NOT will need a lot of computing energy to record - you do to play back by means of the Hauppauge supplied software. THe ".ts" files will play nomally on most players (not sure of Windows Media Player as it is extremely restricted). Merely record on a laptop, transfer the ".ts" file to your desktop method, then use a video editor to convert to an mpeg file for use (Pegasys' 4Xpress does a excellent job). No cons as but. I'm somewhat worried about the number of reported failures mentioned previously. I have had mixed outcomes with Hauppauge hardware previously so I'm a bit skeptical. Nothing to add, everything required comes with the unit.

I bought this to back up DirecTv DVR recordings for later viewing (and feasible Blu Ray burning). It works great for this. Now I can save all my recordings in HD format on a USB difficult disk and not be concerned about the DVR deleting them if its built-in difficult drive gets full. - The capture software program has locked up on me twice (out of about 20 usages) requiring a Task Manager method kill under Vista.- They ought to contain uncomplicated video editing computer software so you can cut out unwanted parts (commercials), divide a recording into numerous files, and join files together.- Captures direct to H.264, AVCHD file format, among Quite a few other formats. No transcoding! I have only employed the video capture and viewer. I have not tried the DVD burner or format converter programs.

Bought this for my son for Christmas...it's what he wanted. Uses it to record his XBox games and posts them to YouTube. Worked out of the box. Seems to get hung up from time to time causing him to have to reboot it. (Turn it off and back on). Fixes the difficulty and it's not very typically this happens.

1 of the really couple of devices that exploit the analog loophole and permit us to record HD boradcast via componenet in "editable" format. The hardware encoder is in the box that I can effortlessly use this on my low spec HTPC (Athlon II dual core, 3GB RAM, onboard Radeon 4200, Windows 7 x32). three alternatives of recording formats: mp4, m2ts, and ts.An included software can generate AVCHD disks (HD video on regular DVD disks) "WITHOUT" re-encoding the recordings that the disk burning goes really fast even on my low spec machine. Overheating of the unit soon after about 8 hours of non-stop recording. You have to disconnect it from the laptop or computer, turn off the unit and turn it back on when that takes place. Fortunately, not many people have to do that too generally. The included software program that cuts recorded footage can be improved. It doesn't enable me to set cut points at precise frames I want. When a recording, scheduled on the included WinTV software, begins though an additional show is being recorded on Windows Media Center by means of a Tv tuner, that causes the Media Center recording to stop as soon as and restart leaving you with about 10 seconds of a missing segment in the MC recording. Video bitrate up to about 13.5MB/s. Audio about 384MB/s. I haven't utilized the blaster app to synch with my cable box that I can't comment on it. I have to say overall I am quite satisfied with the product. Scheduled recordings start reliably, this puts really lil strain on my CPU and permits me to save HD broadcast to disks for permanent storage. It seems like Hauppauge has recently released a driver and software to enable the tuning and scheduling on Media Center. But I don't program on working with it caz it became clear half way via the process that I would have to synch the unit with my cable box. I just like the traditional video capture through Channel two for the VCR kinda thing, working with an HD cable box instead, for the HD-PVR.

Fair price, product was in stock. I ordered it with an AMD CPU. It was poorly packed with no protection on 3 sides of the box. The box was a bit mashed, which is not Neweggs fault, but the poor packing is. I winced when I opened the box. Packing should be on all six sides of the box to support defend the product when the box gets mashed by UPS/Fed-Ex. I hope every thing is OK. Newegg applied to do a fantastic job shipping but the final various packages I have ordered lately have been poorly packed.

Excellent quality, terrific recording, can record component, svideo and composite. Also has toslink optical (digital) audio. IR blaster included. Records files component video recordings in .ts format (no other option). No HDMI in or coaxial from STB. In spite of drivers for Windows 7 MCE, blaster will NOT function in MCE for Windows 7. Necessary to adjust delay to 6-8 seconds to steer clear of audio corruption during channel alter. Output format (in SageTV) needed the vbr=Θ switch which forces cbr encoding. Right after that a majority of the troubles disappeared. It would have been good to have a digital audio option with the analog interface (svideo or composite). AFAIK, analog video recording only enables RCA (analog) audio. Occassionally, would get quickstream recording error, but I have VideoRedo to fix those. Changed a setting in the sage.properties file specifically for the HD PVR which really should help decrease those errors.

Capture feeds up to 1080i beautifully. Works decently with MythTV and Ubuntu Linux. I'm changing channels working with Firewire so I have no concept how nicely the remote works. I'm not a fan of the recording file format, but I guess that is what transcoding is for. It would have been nicer if the box was created of metal and not plastic, and if it didn't have the goofy blue lights. The expense is also a bit high, I could have bought two typical tuner cards for the price of this device. Blue lights are really annoying when all you want is a device that just sits there and works. I had to put tape on the Power indicator as it acted like a mini blue flash light. What ever happened to dim red or green power indicators? The light that emits out the leading isn't as poor but not really warranted either. Also folks shouldn't complain about it not capturing 1080p. To be fair most Tv's can't accept component past 1080i, and HD Tv is only broadcasted in 720p and 1080i. Sure this device doesn't have HDMI, but to be fair HDMI has a DRM that would expense Hauppauge a good deal of income if they had been located breaking that encryption. Component is a legal loop they can fulfill.

okay but nowhere near what it could be
Comment:
The unit works as it was designed to do, but the software that comes with it is very lacking. Also, the specs say it can create hi def video transfer, which it does, but what it doesn't say in the specs is that is the only kind of transfer it can do. It can not do normal DVD quality transfers, so if you don't have a hi def burner, the unit is totally useless.

HD Recording Over Component
Comment:
After several years of recording HD material via the FireWire ports on DVHS decks and cable STBs, I must say I was relieved to find the Hauppauge 1212. However, the build quality of the unit leaves quite a bit to be desired, and the image quality of the analog HD recordings is somewhat inferior to that of the digital recordings from the same source. Despite subpar software, the unit does manage to perform well, and I would recommended it to anyone with the right type of computer hardware (fast dual core processor and lots of RAM).
