This product worked perfectly on Windows XP and even Windows 7 (pre-release) without a hitch. It does use your CPU as the processing engine..but that is no problem with the speed of cpus today. It has an on-board speaker, a CD for older operating systems, and two phone plugs on the back. No complaints.

Yes, it's just a modem, but it does it job well. Easy to install and worked immediately, as it should have.

Corrected the problem of my old modem losing the connection at the most inopportune times. No faster than my old modem but a great value for the money. Arrived the day after I ordered it. Installed and working in less than five minutes.

I have used several modems over the years and this one is just run of the mill. My old Pctel 56k would always connect at 56k with torrents averaging speeds of 4.2 kbps. this one for me would never connect faster then 48k with torrents averaging 3.6 kbps.

Installed this in a freshly built PC after two modems I had laying around wouldn't work. It worked on the first try. Good modem and happy customer.

I had absolute hell trying to get this modem to work on my windows 98SE operating system but after 4 hours of frustration, countless freezes, nearly about to return it, I eventually got it to work. My connection speed went from 28.8 kbps on my old V90 modem to 36 kbps on this V92 modem. Dont even attempt to install this if you are short on time or dont have an afternoon to kill. The autorun file on the CD does not work for installing the drivers. I had to install everything manually from the CD by opening all of the folders and subfolders and clicking on setup icons. The instructions are on the CD in the manual folder, nothing provided on paper, and the CD instructions are pretty much useless anyway. On the modem there are two jack outlets, must plug cord into line, not into phone jack to get a dial tone, they dont tell us this either. FYI: the Hiro tech department number is NOT toll free (909) 595-8086.

In July 2007 I removed the Vista OS out of a Dell E520, installed Windows XP and one of the components I added was this Fax/Modem. It has been reliable to the point I've taken it for granted. I would like to have kept it simple and used the Windows based fax software instead of the one supplied but this has been fine. Great product for the money!

This little booger has been great. Installed on W2K/XP rigs & no hassle so far. Worth every penny!

I tried to install it on my xp machine,but had difficulty making it work. I juggled my modems and put it on a 98se box instead and it worked well. Most people have had the opposite experience vis a vis xp/98. This modem has a great software package including fax sending answering/voice answering software and internet call waiting & switching. Haven't had the time to check this, but I am impressed at the possibilities.If the software works that alone is worth more than $10.

Installed in PC with Windows 2000 Pro and it works flawlessly. Great connection speeds. Easy to install. No problems at all. Great price too.

Tested it out on an older P3 which didn't want to recognize older modems... not this one either. But when I put it in my P4 it worked like a charm. Haven't noticed any faster connection speeds though, still sits at 44K connection speeds like my older modems.

Installs with ease in Windows XP Service Pack 2. Didn't even need the driver CD. Dials extremely fast and just works exactly the way you'd expect it to. Windows Update even has an updated driver for it if you so choose. For a modem that's self-contained (has its own controller and doesn't ''borrow'' the host CPU to function like a WinModem), and at this price, this may be the best modem I've ever seen!

very happy with the hiro modem. I bought it to send faxes over voip (cable telephone). Some modems cann't send fax over cable voice lines but this one does.

this modem is a nice small pci chip, it does great when downloading music off the net and doing updates, it connected me on the net at 55.69 kbps and does great..

I just want to say, I orderd this one morning, I recieved it overnite the next evening, Just had to plug it in, and then install cd. and presto, it was good to go, it is great, connects at 49700 kbs, that is awesome never fell below 44000 kb, I highly recomend this item, and tiger direct, well happy shopping

It is not a plug-n-play device. At least win2K (SP4) didn't recognize it. Upload drivers from CD, that came in one box with the modem, completely screwed up the operating system so I had to re-install the operating system.
