Does the job in a pinch
Comment:
Having clients still on dialup.. this is a great device if you are out of pci slots for internal modem or have a netbook requiring a dialup modem. It generally gives me a very good connection rate (depending on line conditions). It's a modem and does what a modem does. |

go ahead call me now
Comment:
Well it actually has made connection better. I have a useless wireless that comes in now and then so I had to keep dial up until I can move to a place to eliminate the wireless and try highspeed on a cable, but found the new modem has increased my speed to where as the wireless is not much faster when it works, wireless high speed crap if you ask me, dial up not much slower anymore and its always there! |

Good enough for the price
Comment:
The only thing I didn't realize before I bought it, is that it doesn't work with an external answering machine. Also a few people told me that there are no such units....I'm not sure if I believe that. The unit works with the features it has and without hickups. |

Item DOA
Comment:
Item DOA. Tried on 2 different laptops following their install methods and alternative methods. No go, just DOA. May try the better known US Robotics product that's similar. |

Very happy with it
Comment:
I use it exclusively for sending faxes. Have been using it for maybe a month, and so far I am very happy with it. It works, it's small, and it's USB (saving me a PCI port). |

Does the job
Comment:
Its not necessarily one of the greatest modems ever, and its not the worst, but it serves its purpose, in this case for faxing, quite well. |

Works well
Comment:
I purchased this modem to use at my summer camp where there is no wireless internet access - worked like a charm. |

Questionable Reliability
Comment:
Rural dial-up requirement necessitated purchase. Unit lasted 4 months and failed in such a way as to make home phones go dead (like an electrical short). Never ever had a modem fail before. May or may not be susceptible to voltage spikes, or may just be made with cheap components. Either way, not a dependable product - in my case. |

Great little USB Modem!
Comment:
I purchased 3 of these for my small company so we could fax right off our desktops rather than go to the fax machine. The Hiro Modem is excellent. I would recommend using Windows Fax & Scan rather than the software provided. |

Excellent
Comment:
Connects at 41.2 Kbps every time. My laptop would only connect at 31 Kbps. |

Does everything, even Caller ID and Voice
Comment:
This item works with software that requires Caller ID. Caller ID was the main reason I purchased it because other voice modems sometimes fail to have the feature (which I found out through trial and error.) I had this modem answering the phone every day for weeks. It worked flawlessly! Even though it looks like a lower-end item it works better than any other modem I've used! |

Hiro Ext. USB 56K V.92 Modem / XP 64 Bit / Vista Ready / RoHS compliant
Comment:
For me in a rural area, this modem is not worth the effort or the money. Several comments/reviews state it disconnects quickly and I agree. I have a good phone line in case you are wondering. After 1 month of attempted use it has failed totally, will not even dial. I see there is another Hiro model slightly larger and priced the same. But as I write this review it's rating is even lower. I'll probably go with the more expensive USRobotics item. |

Comment:
A customer wanted an inexpensive external modem for his laptop and so I found this modem. After using it he said it kept dropping the connection. Found out he has a unreliable phone cable. I would not recommend this modem for extremely rural areas. |

I bought this modem but because of travel I used it the first time after my 30 days return period and found out is was dead on arrival. I contacted the manufacturer and after several tests they determined it was deffective. I returned the old and within 15 days I received a new one that works great. I am very happy with the service I received. |

Comment:
I purchased this modem over a month ago for use on my Dell Studio 17 with Vista Home Premium. Although the modem connects fairly well, it disconnects after a few minutes of use. The bigger the load I put on it the quicker it fails. I've tried using various initialization strings to limit its connecting speed but I wasn't able to resolve the problem. I bought a different brand of usb modem recently and haven't had any problems with it. I'd recommend avoiding this modem. |

Comment:
I dont know what my problem was but i think this thing is a piece of crap, every time i turn on my computer it does no recognize it and i have to unplug it, and plug it into a diffrent usb port. It says that it is running faster than my old modem but it isnt, all it does is dial faster and say its faster but its not, its still running the same. Dont buy this, look around more. |

Comment:
I purchased this modem on suggestion from phonetray dialup, which is a MOH application, this modem has not worked well for me AT ALL, I use windows vista on a top of the line dell xps system. This modem will not connect half of the time. The other half of the time it will disconnect itself for no reason at all. I would not purchase this modem; I would look for another option if I had it to do over again. |

Comment:
This is a great price for an external USB 2.0 modem. I have tested it with XP Pro 32 bit version and XP home 32 bit and both operating systems worked. One of my PCs does not have a dial up modem and this was perfect. Just plug and play and if you want voice, install the fax software it comes with and you will get voice to work on the modem. Highly recommend this modem! It works perfectly with the Phone Tray software to screen callers and ZAP callers on a landline. |

Had to pull the modem that came with my pc to install a video card, cause it was the modem was the only thing I could do without. Then I realized I couldn't do without it either. Bought this USB modem and it worked just fine. I got dsl but use the modem for faxing occasionally.
