three hotswap bays, casing has sturdy rigid construction, removable, replacable fan. case has to be rugged to withstand the abuse required to install it. I have three of these, two in a CM690, and 1 in a salvaged gateway stump. i had to mod both situations, flip the modules more than, and use every little thing brief of a sledge hammer to fit them. Fan Need to be removable in order to replace it ahead of use. fan bracket comes off simple, but fan is soldered to it, has really short leads. circuitry on back is really delicate. scratched it with a fingernail on a single of the modules and now im brief a operating bay. pull fan out and cut the wires as close as doable to the fan so you have room to splice a decent 60mm fan in instead. stock fan is .16amp, double that is accessible and satifactory.

I like it. A single of my greatest pet peeves was getting to go into my case whenever I want to move about hard drives, or swap them out for unique ones. I at present have five tough drives on SATA in my case, and needed more space for the final two, simply because my new video card was so lengthy that I could not mount my second hard drive bay (Antec P180B case with an eVGA nVidia 8800 GTX video card if you're asking yourself).I like it and the subsequent case I get will be filled with these items. The fan on the back aligns with my vertically mounted zalman fan on my cpu, which in turn aligns with my rear exhaust, developing a sort of wind tunnel by means of the case. And I just utilised it to hot swap out a single of my drives so I can make a ghost image of my parent's C drive. Took ten seconds. As the other users have talked about, it's a really tight fit. I didn't have to mod my case, but I did have to pound it in with the palm of my hand a couple of instances, and squeezing it in there took roughly five minutes or so. I have no idea how I'll get it out must I want to do that. Also, be cautious that you won't hit any motherboard components as you're sliding it in. for my subsequent case I might just get a bunch of these and mount all of my hard drives into them...

Have purchased the threeǚǛ Disk Models for my Organization all have worked wonderful, Particularly if your RAID Card had the jumpers for the LED's and came with the cables... Employed in various distinct types of servers (Pedistal and Rack mount) None in the couple years I've had one particular of these These would be very good for residence use if you had the need to have for one, though check your case size and position of your motherboard to make positive you have the room.

Perfect for buying a mid-tower and adding 3 drives to fill two empty 5.25" slots.I have it in my "Thermaltake Matrix VX" and it slid suitable in, the fan sticks out to the edge of the motherboard which is amazing for hiding wires behind. For some reason in Vista when I sleep computer, the alarm goes off and beeps seriously loud. I haven't really checked on the alarm functions or haven't read manual, I don't use suspend anyway. immediately after a couple months, I produced a custom dust filter out of a paper towel, you can still feel the air moving through it keeping drives cool. I like it simply because you can pop drives out if your not utilizing them or you want to switch it to a media center Computer with out getting to open either box or sacrifice speed or drag wires about with an external case.

straightforward hot swap, Good looking design. very good good quality and preformance. May not fit to your case if your case has guide rail stood out from the drive bay wall. Did not fit on my thermal take armor case with out case modification (It's genuinely hard to do). If you think this won't fit to your case, try MB454 Ɣ bays version). It fits nicely with my armor case and I have two of these installed on my armor case.

Nice idea... poor implementation. As other reviewers mentioned, ICY DOCK MB453SPF-B doesn't very fit. As I read their reviews I believed it didn't sound too bad... I was wrong. With my Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Laptop Case it was about .five cm too big. Bending the case's tabs is not an option, as my case is created out of steel... the aluminum cases possibly, but not 1 created out of steel. Either that or I want to start operating out. Also, based on other 3 HD in two five.25 Bays I would anticipate this to be a sledless style. It's not. so if you want to swap boot drives you'll also want to acquire additional sleds or have empty bays. I'm a content newegg customer... but I don't believe they ought to be selling this item. If a item description says it fits in to 2 five.25" bays... then it need to fit. If 1 consumer/reviewer mentions that they had to modify their case inorder to get it to fit... maybe it's their case. But it appears to me that the ICY DOCK item will not fit any case.

Overall not a bad item. Had the similar issue as most: Necessary to "mod" my case a small. Most situations come with tabs for the five.25" drive bays. Just required to bend a set down so they layed flat. The tabs in the middle had been fine b/c of the groove on either side of the unit. Threw in three inexpensive SATA drives, hooked into the RAID controller on the mobo, and haven't looked back because Every once in a even though, perhaps once just about every 20th reboot, the middle bay will error out. Reseating the drive fixes it, but it Truly lets you know there's an problem.

The Icy Dock 3 Bay Module works great for my SOHO/SMB requirements. I used a HighPoint RocketRaid 2300 card and these two goods work very effectively with each other. I would recommend this unit to anyone. I needed a really small case and utilised the Apevia X-QPack2 case. The drvive bay's fan and the case's energy supply cables are touching. Maybe not the ideal case to use but it works and Icy Dock's drive bay looks good in this case. Going to be purchasing the five bay backplane incredibly soon.

I like just about every little thing about it. The rack slide in and out perfectly, and the fan isn't loud, it also cools truly effectively. They didn't genuinely take in account all of the instances out there and I ended up cutting some tabs out of the way so it would fit, also I pay ๙ for some thing the least you could do is put the little sticker beside the light on superior but oh nicely. 1 of the other reviews is proper there isn't a vent in the bottom slot so it doesn't cool the HD as great

Installing rack is a little tight receiving into my Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case, but it fit so snug that the plastic clips that came with the case are not necessary to hold the Icy Dock rack in spot.By moving my RAID drives to the upper component of the case caused three key plussesɅ: My MB temp dropped 2 degrees Celsius. ࿃cƜ: MY AMD FX-60 with the Zalman 9700 LED temp dropped 2 degrees Celsius. ࿅c)three: My 8800GTX dropped from 60 Celsius to 54 Degree Celsius. This is unreal, but I like!I highly suggest this Icy Dock drive bays if you are about to put two 8800 GTX's into your case.BTW, snip your tough drive rack 1Ǟ"-1ǚ" to fit the 8800 in with no bending the card! Hiding the wires are a small tough in a see via case but if it done correct, it looks incredibly clean! The fan is a little noisy, but for what it is worth, I'll take the trade of freezing my PC! When I get a opportunity, I will move my neighborhood C drive to that third position so that my spare drive will be the only factor at the bottom of my hard drive rack. This is my dream machine and it is just about total!

These drive bays are nicely built and reliable. The drive carriages seemed flimsy but are solid with the drives installed. The latch method works very well and they slide in and out easily. They need 2 molex energy connections and three sata connection, 1 per drive. All the drives power on instantly and the bay LEDs indicate on the net and busy status for every single drive. I haven't had any problems with installing drives; I've installed 12 so far. Incredibly tight fit. The enclosure chassis takes up two 5.25" drive bays but requirements to be about 1mm shorter. As it is they had been so difficult to get in that I had to file the edges down. I installed four of them in my Antec 12 five.25" bay case so it took a substantial quantity of effort to get them installed. By effort I mean filing, shoving, banging, removing, filing more, shoving, banging, and so on. As soon as they were in they worked splendidly and I'm glad I put forth the effort. I think the fit is the only major difficulty with these drive bays. I bought these to supplement a file and proxy server I was constructing. I have a total of four Icy Dock bays with 12 drives: 8 terabyte Samsung drives and four 500GB Samsung drives. No failures but. I have the 8 terabyte drives connect to an Areca 1220 hardware RAID5 PCI-E controller and a single 7 terabyte RAID5 volume. It is extremely quick utilizing the built in kernel drivers under 64bit linux. I extremely recommend these to everyone with the patience to install them.

This is a quite good unit. The contruction is pretty nice, the trays a small flimsy, but well contructed. I had absolutely no issues inserting it into my chassis (Supermicro 760 tower) and it was so effortless to set up I didn't want any directions. Once caution I've read about is to *only* connect the SATA power *or* the Molex power - but not each. I've got 1 SATA power and all 3 SATA cable connected running 3 drives on a WHS setup. Leading bay is drive 1, bottom bay is drive 3. I like this 1 so much, I'm searching into purchasing a second unit and a dedicated SATA RAID card to drive all six HD's. Slight chattering noise from the challenging drive's is audible, but as this is a server box downstairs it isn't an problem. May well get on my nerves on my key PC, or if it had been in a HT setup in the living room (but I'm receiving old and less tolerant of loud PC's). Almost certainly get this with most all of the Multi-Bay units like this anyway. I'd like to see the expense of these come down a bit. I think for what they are they're a small pricey, but then again its hard to beat the front access and hot swap functionality.

Works as advertised. SATA drives plug directly into the backplane in their caddys. Solid construction, fairly quiet fan, terrific option for mounting hard drives in five.25" bays. My only disappointment was that this device only accepts molex plugs instead of sata power plugs. The depth of this product is not 240mm as stated on their internet site. Its truly only as deep as my cd drive, Ӳ.75"롂mm + Ӯ"኎mm for the fan.

Beyond the obvious hot swap...It adds an extra bayUncomplicated to useUncomplicated to installWorks as advertisedFan is quiet sufficient I really feel it is too costly for what it isExtra rails are costly I wish that they included an additional rail-set or two with this unit. That would have made the cost point far more bearable.

Affordable, works effectively. Fan keeps drives cool. Has hot swappable fan. Extensive IO panel for indicator lights and alarm reset button None. For a quick hot-swap cage, this unit can't be beat. The indicator lights don't function with just about every brand of HDD, but function with the WD SATA RAID series.

You just need two molex power cableƑ for tricky drives, 1 for a fan)and three sata information cables. The connector part is changed now, so it's diverse from the picture. Also, the fan is quiet now. Just before installing this backplane, the temperature rose up to 65 degrees dangeroulsy. But now it stays at 45 degrees under full loading. None so far.

Mine fit with ease in my Antec case. Its an older model and I'm not certain what it is, but I removed the front slots and it slide proper in, actually has a small wiggle room. My case doesn't have the rails in the front to interfere with the installation. My case case doesn't have the rails to screw the bay into to keep it into location, and the screw holes don't align themselves up with the vent holes for me to screw it into location. So unless I feel like drilling holes into the case rack to hold it in place I'll just have to hold it in location though I remove the drives, not a major deal and nothing genuinely against the bay except a couple additional screw holes may well have been nice. The 1 factor I have noticed is that I was unable to format my new 2TB WD Green drive with it in the bay. It wasn't showing up in my disk management, so I had to pull it out (which was fast and simple with the hot swap :) and hook it up internally to formatt. No other difficulties, read my other 2TB Green right away and my other 1 TB Black. Handy for swapping files to various diverse drives
