What can i say? this cpu is a beast. Sure, you can spend an extra 100 dollars for the i7 cores, but with the ddr3 memory and new socket motherboards, you're looking at a 1000 dollar computer easily. Get this, and build a GREAT 500 dollar computer that can run crysis at 1920 X 1080 at 50 fps. I did, and I don't regret it.

Fast cpu, ive upgraded from an old celeron, and preformance is much better, not even worth comparing on how much faster the quad cores are!

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Quad-Core Socket 775 Processor
Cons:- None

Pros:- Value in upper-end segment- 45nm quad care- 1333 fsb- Overclocks nicely
Comment:
Great buy when looking for 4 cores. Performance specs on current applications don't leave a huge gap between the Q9400 and the higher clocked, more cached Q9550. That gives the Q9400 a "value" stamp in the higher end cpu category. This guy overclocks well, runs fast, gets you bragging rights with that coveted 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index :)Strict gamers may want to go with a higher speed dual-core. But if you are a developer and have a web server, an application server, an IDE, and a whole mess of other stuff simultaneously running, it does pay to have the extra cpu capability.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Quad-Core Socket 775 Processor
Cons:-Only 6mb cache

Pros:-Fast-Great overclocker-Low temps
Comment:
You can easily reach 3.20 - 3.40 Ghz on this processor without any hard tweaking. Temps stay nice and cool in those areas, even with stock heatsink. The stock Intel heatsink gets a lot of flak, which it deserves, but if you remove the applied paste it comes with and apply Artic Silver 5 instead it is all you really need.Anything over 3.40Ghz I recommend a third party heatsink however.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Quad-Core Socket 775 Processor
Cons:Code use a bit more cache

Pros:Runs coolPrice isn't badExcellent performanceGreat for video encoding
Comment:
My previous experience with a quad core CPU was regrettably with an AMD Phenom 9850. Honestly, I can say this processor eats my previous AMD for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It runs cooler, has faster clock speeds and more cache than AMD's effort. My only negative point is the amount of cache, 8mb would seem more logical to go with but it doesn't seem to hamper performance at all.

Very fast!!! Overclocked to 3.6 GHz by just upping the FSB and setting everything to auto on my Asus P5K-E motherboard. My videos encode much faster now. Highly recommended!!!

I was so happy when I saw that this was packaged in 2009, I was so happy. The one I received is a great Ocer, 3,4 ghz easy. The 6mb l2 cache means nothing with this speed :D.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Quad-Core Socket 775 Processor
Cons:a little pricey regular price

Pros:overclock well for quad corefasttons of cacheon sale, its an awesome deal
Comment:
with stock heatsink/fan, i've got it pushing 3.2, barely adding voltage, and only 3 degrees added heat. i think those numbers speak for themselves. it may not sound like the best overclock in the world, but.. you have to remember, its a quad core, and wont hit the 4ghz like my E8400 does. all in all, another great chip from a great company. And this is coming from a sworn AMD lover my entire life. Now, I've somewhat lost respect for a company that continually fails to put an equal to C2D or C2Q product.

This is a very fast CPU and with the 12mb L2 cache it really keeps things from slowing down. I was thinking of going with an i7 but after seeing what this one does, I'm glad I didn't as I saved a lot of dollars on everything that supports it. I have it running on an eVGA 790 Ultra with 4gb of Patriot 7-7-7-20, an eVGA GTX 280 and powered up with an Enermax 465 with a 20 to 24 pin power cable adapter. This all runs Crysis on high at 1680x1050 resolutions and no issues whatsoever. I installed a big Zalman cooler to keep the flames down.

Comment:
This Quad chip is nothing less than awesome, I upgraded this from a Core 2 Duo E7200. In all respect an E7200 is a very agile chip and a blessing for budget builders. But if you have the cash go with Quad Core, there has been constant debate about Duo vs. Quad and gaming debates as well for FPS performance. I will tell you this going to the Q9400 has given me 10+fps in Crysis and 5 degrees hotter on my 9800GT's in SLI. Now only reason for the heat increase is now the system is running at max computing and is working the cards to their full potential. But if you want the best, the old saying is your going to pay for it and this is a great chip for your cash!

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Quad-Core Socket 775 Processor
Cons:None

Pros:Fast and Cool
Comment:
Recently I have only been getting AMD processors this was my first Intel in awhile and I like it. I bought it mostly for video editing and processing as well as Photoshop. Both run faster then anything I have ever used before. Its also great with games, I have played Crysis, Fallout 3, NHL 09 and all run smoothly and fast. For temps it is running around 28 degrees t idle with aftermarket cooling and arctic silver. I have not overclocked it at all but I am sure I could. I just like having the fans at low speed so its virtually silent.

Pros:Great performance, overclocks well

This CPU is great. Multitasking is amasing compared to single core cpus. I'm running it at 3.2Ghz with a near stock voltage of 1.16V and the stock cooler. I'm pretty sure it could do 3.5Ghz without a problem.

Cons:6 mb??

Pros:Quad core!Very fast processors! very good potentiel for Overclocking & doesn't get very hot. 45nm!
Comment:
I'm running multiple applications & I've never used the CPU(4) yet. Overclocking it easily with the stock heatsink and fan(+++3.2ghz easily). No problem to running vista with that!

Pros:FAST! Quad core! Doesn't get very hot.
Comment:
Fast CPU, I'm running multiple applications while gaming and I've never used 80% of the CPU yet. Capable of overclocking it easily with the stock heatsink and fan but it's already capable of running everything. 45nm makes it run cool.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Quad-Core Socket 775 Processor
Cons:Smallest of the internal caches.

Pros:Well it has 4 cores. It's fast in that sense.
Comment:
Functions as I would expect, quickly. Doesn't get too hot, can be over clocked to 3.0GHz without over heating the thing. This is with a water cooled PC though, so you might want to keep that in mind.
