Comment:
Uncomplicated, solid, trustworthy, versatile. In my three Pc Configuration these serve as test beds for a range of purposes and also as backup and option OS drives. Slightly also narrow. Slightly overpriced. I bought one, loved it, bought an additional then one more. A small pricey for what they are. I also picked up a Sata to Esata cable and a power adapter that directly powers drives plus a silicon Drive booty ... all located in the Rosewill RCW-608 USB2. Adapter [Best one out] this permits any of my naked hot swap drives to be in a position to grow to be an external USB, Sata or Esata drive. [Sata to Esata cable was a separate obtain]I leave the drive in but not "engaged" till I need to have to use it ... then "click" ... push it closed and wala ... added drive.

This thing is great. The drive slides in and out fine. I never use the key. Wonderful for backup. It's not so much a con about this item as it is a con on computer cases that are tool-less. It can be carried out but it's not a good fit on some tool-less circumstances. I'm back purchasing additional, it's a sweet item.

These work great for possessing a removable SATA drive. Effortless to install and don't have to deal with a tray. You probably must use a combined SATA/power connector on the back. Power cable is stays connected with no issue, but the seperate SATA cable is loose given that there is no clip or anything else to hold it. I bought two of these. One particular holds a regular sized three.five" height drive and performs great. The other holds a single of these thin three.five" drives. As a outcome, it doesn't usually slide in right and I have to jiggle it about until it lines up with the connector. I'd most likely recommend anything with a tray if you are going to be removing/inserting the drive daily although. Otherwise, functions very good except for the loose SATA cable connectors

Nice fit, good design. A really handy device for prepping HDDs for other computers. I can't get it to hot-swap. I have to reboot. Any advice? Is it some thing in my BIOS? I'd Actually like to have the hot-swap feature operating!

This is a lot more open than a regular removable drive bay. The cooling fans on most bays swiftly put on out, so I'd rather have a "free flowing" bay that can passively cool the drive. Also, it's significantly less complicated to swap drives in and out (unless you get extra drive holders for the other style). I mainly use this sort of bay for effortlessly adding other peoples drives (for data recovery, and virus scanning), so it's good to not have to deal with the additional parts.Kingwin tends to make another version of this, where the drive seems to be inside a much more regular cartridge, but I a lot choose this. You surely can't put a smaller drive in this one particular (while you possibly can in some of the other people). It worked perfectly in one of my computers, but the other one particular had some difficulty. My primary method is in a "tool-less situation" (the Chenbro "Gaming bomb II"). The Gaming bomb II doesn't have a genuinely excellent tool-much less feature (the drives can effortlessly be pushed out of spot), but I suspect other tool-less cases would have a comparable issue. To reduce vibration, there are rubber grommets holding the drive cage in location. This truly requires screws in place to pull the edges apart. Otherwise, and what occurred in my situation, the pressure that's supposed to hold the bay in place, just causes it to flex, and there's nothing holding the drive in spot (and you'll either pull it out, or push it inside the situation the subsequent time you try to add a drive). In my situation, I bent the clamps out of the way and just applied screws to place the bay in spot. Other kinds of cases may well not have that selection.

Permits me to swap files all through my network with out wasting resources. Quiet, smooth, with a firm connection. No want to purchase extra trays for all those HDDs in your closet. None. Properly, maybe a single. I didn't know about this product sooner. If you ever have a will need to swap files quickly, this is the way to go. Strategy ahead, and place one in all your builds.

Fast and simple to how-swap drives if your (e)SATA controller supports it Will not be superior for all cases, especially these from big box brands (e.g. Dell, HP), who use semi-proprietary drive rail systems. Would be far better if it was "boxed" like a CD-ROM for far more universal fit. I'm using this on a server as my backup method for a Microsoft SBS server. Backing up via SATA is Fast, and with contemporary drives, you can run Complete backups every day and have a week's worth on a 500GB drive, ready to go for Disaster Recovery.

1. Undo locktwo. Open spring loaded latchthree. Open doorfour. Insert drivefive. Close door till it latches6. Lock (will work unlocked too... but why risk itơ. Watch it work. You pull open the door, a good arm behind the drive pushes it out for you. Some quibble at no power or activity light. I suppose... they would be nice. I don't sweat it although. The logic on that is: If I'm present, I know its operating from the OS. If I'm not present, its gonna crash regardless. The light is just superfluous. Performs "ok" with slim drives. They slide in ok. If you have a portable computer, you in all probability want to make a little spacer to fill in the unused space... I didn't, as my setup is rack mounted, but some wee bit of ingenuity would make it more travel ready, if need to have be.

Great backup solution. Economical but well built. The integrated adapter is required if you want the power and activity lights to work. Given that the adapter doesn't provide three.3V, there's a remote chance that some SATA drives won't operate. Took off an egg mainly because the pass-by way of SATA connector could have been engineered to handle the lights devoid of an adapter.

Simple to install (just don't forget to plug in the energy cables like I did at first...), and performs exactly as advertised. The rack felt a small on the flimsy side when I unpackaged it, but after I mounted it in my situation (easy with the tool-less rails) it is rock-strong. My 1TB HDD fit nice and snug. I can't feel of any cons... I'm seriously contemplating getting 1 or two far more of these for my other HDDs.

Easy. Performs. Does not demand the drive to be locked in order to function. Drive lock is generic essential so if you have 4 of these like I do, you do not will need to hold the keys separate. I don't have any unfavorable comments. I pair these up with WD 640GB SATA2 "Green" drives and swap Vista, XP and windows 7 plus numerous data drives and have had zero problems. I do not have any internally mounted HDDs, only SATA2s slid into the KF-1000-BK(s). They fit nicely in Cooler Master and Antec instances.

KINGWIN KF-1000-BK 3.5" Internal hot swap rack
Comment:
Performs as expected. Uncomplicated switch between drives (and operating systems, environments), open cage so process airflow will cool hd without an additional noisy fan. Use it with bare drives. There is no need to invest in inside cages Installation in a case which calls for slide rails (i.e. Antec P90) does not give the drive rack hardware sufficient support. It is hinged on rubber which is a nice thought, but it is also soft and the side brackets of the rack naturally bend down by the weight of the drive giving it an ill fit and no stability. Inserting and removing the drive becomes really challenging. If you have a case exactly where you can use 4 screws on each and every side to attach the rack firmly to the situation you need to not have any issues. To fix this, I constructed a easy aluminum bracket to go across the best - 166mm long, 7mm wide, bent down 10mm every single finish to give it 146mm across and clamped it among the outside of the racks bracket and the case slide rails - the two screws of the sliders are holding the bracket firmly in location, stiffening the assembly substantially and creating the insert/remove operation more reputable as nicely. The bracket going across the best does not interfere with either sliding the drive in and out of the rack nor with inserting or removing the rack from the case. The slide rails snap lock now snap nicely into spot as effectively.

Easy style, straightforward to install and use. Great for users who will need to swap out their SATA drives. None, due to the fact the newest model now has a Power and HDD activity LED I've utilized each the older models (sans LED lights) and the newer models and have had no genuine problems. Nevertheless, I just tried out a Seagate 7200.11 500 gb drive in the newer model and the HDD activity light is Usually ON, even when the drive is not being accessed. When the drive is accessed, the red light blinks so you know activity is occurring. Strange but true. This does not occur with the older Seagate drives 񣚠.ten and earlier).

uncomplicated to install. Comes with all the required hardware. Functions as advertised with out any mods or perform-arounds. none This is the 5th one particular of these I've installed more than the final two years. If you want this to be hot swappable, make confident you've set up the BIOS for AHCI.

Will allow quick swapping of drives. Uncomplicated to install. None It's a straightforward rapid change drive bay. It may possibly seem flimsy to some, but the moment you screw it in spot it is as rigid as your case. To the person who asked does it perform with Win 7 - it is no a lot more than an extension cable. There are no drivers, no software. If the drive is not becoming recognized either the hardware is defective or you need to have to initialize, produce a partition, and format the drive via Manage Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management.

Low-cost, uncomplicated to use, tends to make removing drives a breeze. Makes the front of your case appear server-ish. Some of the latches feel a little flimsy, and general so does the construction. Right after you get all of the screws in, it stops feeling flimsy. I got ten of these to throw in a Kandolf case in an unRAID box, and I wouldn't go back to internal mounting.

Great style. For occasional drive swapping, this is a good answer. No fan, open case, shock mounts = excellent cooling with no noise. Low-cost. None to speak of. This *identical* rack is rebranded and sold by other vendors at virtually twice the price. I unfortunately purchased a couple of those prior to I located the Kingwin version.

Good Notion! If it worked as it good as I believed it did I'd give it 5 eggs. The concept of being in a position to slip a SATA drive into the cage and close the door was cool. No seperate trays necessary The SATA interface is buggy. I know it's not a hardware chip, it's just a straight thru bridge. I purchased two a while ago and one particular far more lately. I was having issues with my SATA software raid and finally just plugged the drives straight into the motherboard and every thing is working perfectly. Sorry folks, great concept, poor implementation...

Open so no fan to fail. Easy case cooling. I just don't build any PCs any longer with out using these for all drives. They're fantastic. My WD drives would not insert or remove. The spring that holds the drive down, hangs up on quite a few WD sata drives have a modest tab protruding up on the rear of the drive. It's cast aluminum and can't be broken off. See Other Thoughts: for repair.LEDs never ever worked on my Adaptec 2405. I just removed the spring completely...difficulty fixed. My older KF-1000-BK's did not have the spring. (Stupid for WD to do that but it is what it is). Also, screw them into the bay rather than use the "toolless" mounts. Toolless drive mounting is a joke.

Kingwin has updated the model. It now give you a blue power LED and an orange activity LED. They supply some much better cabling than in the past too. In addition, they have hold down springs for half height drives now also. This all makes me a happy camper. Still.. just a tiny flimsy, not too bad, and significantly much better when you get it installed.1 of the four I gothad the left side mounting plate punched, but not tapped for the screws. A minor bother for me - I tapped it myself, but most users in all probability would return it. They've gotten a bit far more high-priced, but now have some added features. Nevertheless a fantastic value.
