Operates as advertised. Pins bend quickly Plenty of laptop hard drives are inside a case. Make certain to take off the case just before attempting to plug into the adapter!!! It should really fit all IDE laptop tough drives if you take off their outdoors case!

1. Modest.2. Quite self explanatory. three. Performs just fine. 1. A little flimsy. It's sort of effortlessly bent, and I was capable to accidentally poke a hole in the quite middle, where there is no hole. There is no hole there, so that you know what side of the tricky drive is supposed to face upwards. Guess it doesn't genuinely matter. two. It grips the pins sort of tough, and then when you pull the challenging drive off of this adapter, some of the pins can get bent. I have had to bend back a lot of pins more than time, from making use of this. Just be careful.three. The darn power connector must be glued in location. If you slip it off, and place it back on, don't believe it goes both strategies cause it does not. It only goes on one particular way, if you want it to provide energy. For the value, you can't go wrong with this tiny unit. Just treat it pretty gently and you will be fine.

After working, it functions as expected. 1st, like most other reviewers, *pay interest* to R & B power connector before plugging this issue into difficult drive and flipping the switch.2nd, for some odd reason, item shipped had the power leads reversed in the molex jacket (male). Simple sufficient to flip, but no instructions integrated w/ product, so anyone that didn't know would be left confused as to why the male jacket wasn't plugging into their female connection. And lastly, like reviewer Frazier DST stated 8 pages back, had to use the staple trick to power up the laptop tough drive. Product doesn't supply energy to pin 41...main item design flaw. Just copying Frazier DST's staple trick below to move it to the forefront, otherwise I would've been out of luck and returning the product. FWIW, I didn't have to remove the rubber cover for this to work (initially). For security sake, I later did cut away (with Exacto) part of the rubber cover and apply a tiny bit of solder to make sure the energy connection remained. Final factor I'd want is for a drive to lose this connection (and hence power) halfway thru a format. 'If you are short on time and/or don't have access to a solder gun, I utilized a staple. Get rid of the rubber cover. Push a staple into the slot where pin 41 need to be. Wrap the other end of the staple about pin 44 (labled "R" on the rubber gaurd). Tada you have power. Be carefull not to let the staple touch anyother pins, you can damage other hardware (ie: energy provide, mobo, tricky drive, or even the adaptor itself). Good LUCK'Thank you Frazier DST...under no circumstances would've believed of this ;).

Just what I required to get the information off of a notebook with a dead MOBO. Worked 1st time I attempted it in Ubuntu Linux 8.ten. None that I can assume of.... I have only used it as soon as, and it did just what I bought it for... for 6 bucks, it was nicely worth the price tag (personal data is commonly priceless...) Windows XP SP2 would not assign a drive letter to the notebook Hard drive. Ubuntu mounted it with no complications and I was able to recover all of the information for a friend. Definitely incredible how substantially "data recovery" fees from huge name companies...

none. Doesn't operate, and the value isn't worth the hassle for RMA. The molex power connector is flimsy and disconnected effortlessly. My WD Passport died, and suspecting a faulty USB converter I purchased this as a cheap remedy to recover data from the ATA-six drive inside. I am now ordering an enclosure, which I likely need to have completed in the very first spot as I required to replace the external drive anyway as nicely as recover information from the other drive, and the enclosure can serve both purposes.

None: I couldn't make it work simply because of the pin spacing. The female 2.five" connector has the incorrect pin spacing: forcing the connector on splays out the tough drive's pins, and complete make contact with is NOT created.

low expenseease of use.basic packaging the plastic case that binds the connector isn't tricky, its a bit soft and bendy but fragile to the point exactly where unplugging it several instances will break it. just be careful when you unplug it and check for bent pins.also make certain that the black and red molex pins(wires) match each other when connecting to psu.

Low-cost. Does what it demands to. The power plug pulls out effortlessly with no indicator as to the appropriate orientation. Just be careful you don't reverse it if you pull it out. Newegg. Your sooooo higher tech in your shipping yet you waste cash and a consumables shipping this factor in a box. Shame on you... Go greener and pack this issue in a padded envelope. Seriously thats just stupid that I paid additional for shipping then the product itself.

Works right after soldering a property-made jumper and bridging the empty slots where pin 41 and 42 really should be. Got to install Linux on my laptop's tough drive. Trusted as soon as I got it operating. This solution is faulty! The pins are not arranged effectively, and clearly this corporation does not care for regulations or standards. I spent 8 minutes trying to take off the rubber housing, then I had to spend 2 hours trying to figure out what was wrong, then I had to figure out the mapping of IDE (ribbon cable) and ATA (laptop port), and identify which wire does what. Then I had to discover an old paperclip to cut a tiny little piece, which I then lost on the carpet for 45 minutes. After acquiring it, I had to bend it at exactly the ideal angle, and devote 25 minutes shoving the two ends into these tiny holes (the two near the finish that don't have any pins sticking out), and then invest 12 minutes discovering my old soldering kit and spending six minutes soldering the little piece of paperclip onto the metal contacts. I strongly urge Newegg to take away this product, and if this has happened with "Kinamax"'s other goods, to take away any goods produced by them off of this Fully.I chose not to RMA this one mainly because I believed I could fix it myself, and it was only ป (with shipping). Nevertheless, don't purchase this. Even if you're excellent with soldering, this is not worth the time or effort (unless you're like me and hang onto each and every small penny).Do not get this product. It is faulty.

none. DOA. Considering that it will cost me as well significantly to RMA it, I will appear elsewhere for this item. Newegg's nonetheless practically constantly the ideal on cost, but their return pratices are as well expensive when even straightforward parts like this don't perform. If you are hunting to acquire, don't get this brand: appear for one with higher evaluations.

Strong construction. Permitted me to (eventually) save information from an almost dead laptop drive. Did not work at very first with a Toshiba drive from a Sony laptop. I had to solder a jumper in between the power pins as other individuals have described. One particular egg off for the user getting to finish manufacturing the connector. A sheet with guidelines for alternate drive setups would have been great. Perhaps a way to add/remove a regular two-pin jumper for distinct applications.

"B" & "R" molded into the plastic so you know which way the power connect fits on. Both sides of the adapter keyed so you can only fit the IDE ribbon and laptop HDD on one particular way.Hooked up laptop HDD to desktop to save some files after I messed up a Windows installation beyond repair. None Be certain you hook the power cord to the adapter the suitable way. The black write attaches to the side with the "B" and the red wire attaches to the side with the "R"Also make confident to connect the power cord itself to the correct side of the molex connector. Black to black and red to red, not black to black and red to yellow.
