LINKSYS WRE54G Wireless-G Range Extender

It works very well once you get it set up. I am using this device in conjuction with a Linksys wireless access point (WAP54G) and a Macintosh Powerbook G4. It took 3 different calls to Linksys customer support totalling 3 hours for me to understand how everything works together. It was worth it, and their support is very good. It's me that is the slow learner. They were very patient and did not give up on me.

Product works well if you can get it working. Using WAP55G version 1. Had to upgrade firmware of this unit to at least 2.07, however have if prior to 1.09x you have to upgrade to this firmware version prior to later upgrade. Also regarding WRE54G, I tried to upgrade firmware to 1.06 and this did not work - had to downrev back to 1.04. I dont know why the linksys guys always assume a gateway of 192.168.1.1. so you sometimes have to reconfigure your network setting to change this before you can start configuring the untit to work on your network.

I have had the previous version of this device for about 1 1/2 years. For the most part it works great, however, for some reason the printer will not work on my networked system sometimes unless I get closer to the router. Internet works great, drops signal sometimes. Just plug it in anywhere it can get even slight signal from wireless router and it bosts signal. My pool is about 100 feet from my back porch and it just works. I can move it to where I need the signal with no additional setup.

Horrible experience with this product! The product would not recognize my wireless devices. Spent 3 hours on the phone with Linksys tech support. The issue was not resolved and tech support disconnected me and never called back. I returned this product and am upset as I have had positive experiences with other linksys products in the past.

I am in Japan where we have wireless access as our internet provider, and you must have sight of the AP to get service. This item is a lifesaver, definately delivers, just ensure you read the directions and have a little patience when setting up and point the antenna at the AP.

This wireless network Range Expander works perfectly with other Linksys wireless-G components.Works well as a repeater or access point.I was surfing the net through wireless within 5 minutes of opening the box.
